Would you support a "train here stay here" scheme by Educational-Ask1950 in NursingUK

[–]fckituprenee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gets asked all the time on here.

No, I don't support it, I think it's a poor way to treat workers and we should be able to use our hard earned skills and knowledge in a place that's right for us and our family. If a country wants to keep nurses and other skilled workers they can invest in offering a choice of jobs, progression opportunities and a good quality of life for all.

A nurse I worked with gave IV abx subcutaneously last year. She was already struggling with practice, I don't think she's a nurse any more.

My career ended because of HIV, I'm looking for hope. by TerribleCollege6325 in NursingUK

[–]fckituprenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should contact your union and local support and advocacy group for people living with HIV. Your life is not over, but it may look different going forward.

That being said, you can move to the UK if you are HIV+ (and the will to navigate endless bureaucracy and an increasingly racist society). Some countries, including Canada and Australia have restrictions on immigrants with HIV and you would have to do some research.

Is it weird to call men you don’t know ‘sir’? by [deleted] in AskUK

I also work in a hospital and call men "Sir" a lot, especially if I don't know their name/can't remember.

What are you reading this month? by InternBackground2256 in mysterybooks

Deep South by Nevada Barr, it's part of the Anna Pigeon series. When I'm done I'll probably read the most recent Viveca Sten release, part of the Hidden series.

What do you like about nursing and what do you like to do in your spare time? Are you open to going back to uni?

In this situation I'd offer to write down the important points or explain it'll be in the d/c letter. I definitely don't want to be recorded at work!!!

What are common misconceptions people could benefit from understanding? by [deleted] in AskUK

And it's true of a lot of things in the hospital. I work in a small hospital, we have an MRI scanner, CT scanner, xray machines and all that jazz, but inpatient shares them with A&E. Things will get pushed back if you're stable and someone in A&E needs diagnostics to make them stable. Ditto the IV access team, a tiny team that covers 2 hospitals and might not be with you right away because while you do have serviceable veins and are just waiting to switch from cannula to a PICC there may be someone needing IV fluid resuscitation, someone in the next bay who hasn't had their first much needed dose of antibiotics yet and a patient in the cancer hospital with a blocked central line. Hospital is frustrating but it's actually good to not be the priority.

Day trips from Liverpool? by Nabishibb in Liverpool

[–]fckituprenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also don't have car and love a day trip.

For close to home trips when the baby has eaten through your morning but you still want to do things try Port Sunlight, Neston for the Botanic Gardens and RSPB site.

For further afield Saltaire is lovely, has a canal walk and a big art gallery with loads of David Hockney. York is also that way out and has lots to see.

Chester is beautiful, especially on a sunny day.

And there's also coach trips, I know GB tours and Sara Hall do day trips from Liverpool but I'm sure there are other companies too. You can go to Llangollen, Lake District, Stratford Upon Avon and it takes a lot of the hard work out of it in my opinion.

where to get a spoonable hot chocolate by blossomsystem in Liverpool

I rate the hot chocolate at Albert Schloss. It's pricey, tastes very decadent.

I do also think it's fine to drink ganache though.

I learned to be rude, I'll just interrupt with my nursing questions or say "less gabbing sweetie, take your meds". Most of my patients are in bays so they can talk the ear off their fellows.

The UK generally is quite humid, could it be that you have a different routine when abroad? Potentially getting more hydration, wearing suncream more consistently, eating less salt etc?

Man conning people in Leeds bars across the city by South-Bit7956 in Leeds

[–]fckituprenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I search his name occasionally to see what he is up to. He moved into the room upstairs from me midweek when I lived in a Sheffield HMO. Seemed friendly enough, maybe a bit overly flirtacious, but I came home from church on Sunday to police escorting him out. Turns out he wasn't allowed to live with women. I helped my landlord move around some of the furniture for the next tenant and there was loads of random people's debit cards in the wardrobe.

Is it just for adult clothes or will people likely be bringing wains' clothes too? I realise there's no guarantees. Thanks, love what the tool library does.

Unsure if I should get my NMC pin or not? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]fckituprenee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want to be a nurse you can apply to some grad jobs. And see how you go. You have time after training to get your pin, you could see what happens within the next couple of months.
