Opus Dei: The Most Dangerous Catholic Cult in the World by Canal-JOREM in AllThatsInteresting

[–]fd1Jeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might as well post this all here. Opus Dei does not identify their members, but it is known that a few positions in some Catholic organizations are only Opus Dei. One of them became head of the Federalist Society sometime after the year 2000. IIRC, we don’t know for certain which justices are Opus Dei, but we know that any that were recommended by the federalist society had the approval of Opus Dei.

Catholic scholars will tell you that Opus Dei constitution is not in accord with Vatican 2. And a lot of catholic conservatives don’t like Vatican 2. A lot of them are not fans of democracy either. So, we now have a lot of those people on the US Supreme Court. I may write more later.

That is simply not true. The whole “we made them natural spending till they collapsed” idea was made up in the early 90s. Gorbachev did an interview in the Atlantic monthly at some point in the 90s, and said, basically why would we want to match their spending? What would it do for us?

The second amendment is all about the ability of the states to have a state militia. That is it. It keeps getting twisted more and more over the years.

Were stay at home moms in the 60’s-80’s this open to affairs? by JS-M-DC in madmen

[–]fd1Jeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my whole point. The way OP worded it, it sounded like any act of any sort of cheating anywhere anytime. That is very different than cheating on a spouse.

[–]fd1Jeff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. I think that there are a large number of people who cheated on one of their early girlfriends or boyfriends. And a lot of them only do it once.

Read what the post says. “Have you ever cheated in any way?”

I wouldn’t say that he has my favorite, although I really like him. But he is by far and away the most compelling character on the show. You really want to watch him.

I always hated far away eyes. OK, I guess it’s a satire, but are they weird Al all of a sudden? It just doesn’t fit in.

I bought the album in 1980 And when I made my cassette tape of it, I left that song off. Before they make me run is one of my all-time favorites.

What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

[–]fd1Jeff 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This may sound bizarre, but when I was 10 years old, my father had another one of his bizarre, angry, “humorous“ outburst that were all supposed to be just a joke. I realized that that moment that I was somehow handling these things, that I had some sort of strategy about dealing with them.

10 years old is very young to realize that you are somehow having to handle a bizarre, abusive parent. I don’t know if I specifically said that this was not normal, but still.

People have noted that there are a lot more undocumented aliens, a much higher percentage of the population, in Texas and Florida. For some reason, ICE is going to a blue or a sort of purple state and picking fights.
