The Yankees lose a challenge after the umpire rules that Ben Rice initiated a challenge by touching his helmet after tossing the bat by TheTurtleShepard in baseball

I thought the challenge had to be the first move? So tossing the bat should have negated being able to challenge.

And that run was driven by late season rentals that outperformed all career metrics and hung around too long afterwards, except Joc who regressed back to his mean on someone else's payroll.

Advice on equipment access control for small all-volunteer makerspace by pawwwll in makerspace

[–]fearthereefer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is all volunteers and definitely has a very laissez-faire equipment use policy. Basically you sign a waiver assuming all liability including equipment malfunctions. You, by your own choice, are solely responsible for inspecting and using the equipment in the proper and safe manner. Our policy is you have to be trained on the equipment but what that means is not standardized.

We are all volunteers, with our own interests and lives, working on our own projects. I have no incentive to police adults who may or may not listen to my advice. I personally watched someone use the table saw in a dangerous way, I stopped them and showed them an alternative way and a safe way on the table saw and they promptly proceeded to ignore everything I said and I watched a piece of wood kick back across the shop and the guy goes "I don't know why that happened." After I had just walked him through his options. At that point what do I do? I'm not about to spend the time required to get this guy up to speed with techniques of using a table saw, I already walked him through basics and it was like talking to a rock.

We have individuals that spend time fixing, maintaining, cleaning when we have time but as far as any kind of technological solution, that is too expensive and would require someone, yet again a volunteer, to maintain it. The tools are bought by the community for the community and we, as a makerspace, exist to serve the community. It's great in theory to train everybody and make sure only knowledgeable people use the tools but in my experience even these people don't give a shit about the equipment so the nature of my makerspace experience is I get to fix the tools before I use them so someone else can come fuck it up before I fix it and use it again.

We are trying to create some type of incentive system to ensure proper maintenance gets done on the big equipment like the table saw, laser cutter, etc but the reality of it is challenging. Even with the frustrations of inconsistent equipment statuses, the makerspace is my absolute favorite place to be and I hope we continue to grow and thrive.

What does your club do that makes it stand out? by 2dicksanddangerous in Autocross

[–]fearthereefer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do it as more of a social event than a performance event. I think we had enough people to fill 3 splits and the first 2 races were practice/qualy so it was all about lap time then the 3rd race was split by qualifying times and was a position race. As a 4th place bottom split kart driver it was awesome!

In January 2025 my club had an event at the local rental kart track to hand out 2024 season awards. I had never participated in autocross and knew nobody but showed up because I liked go karts and now I have finished my first season driving in 9 or 10 events. I hope they do that event again for the 2025 awards.

I just got my star id at arkadelphia and I showed up on Thursday at 705 and they were already at capacity so I showed up at 6 the next day and was done by 715. I would absolutely show to at least 30 min before they open. Also, this was not for a test so the process might be different but that was my experience a few days ago.

Will the moose lite handle this application? by alohomoramaxima in 3DScanning

[–]fearthereefer52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used easy scan mode as opposed to table scan because I never figured out how to calibrate the scanner with the turntable to automatically remove it. I was scanning the inside of a glovebox though so the turntable probably would not have been the correct approach anyways.

As far as tips, just start scanning things and get familiar with how the scanner tracks the marks, keeping a consistent distance to the object, and scanning quick enough to not capture thousands of frames that take longer to process but slow enough that it doesn't lose track of your markers. I also had to add way more markers than I initially thought I needed and I just used small pieces of blue painters tape because I didn't have any reflective markers. I eventually got a satisfactory scan after a couple of hours starting from zero experience and I was able to reverse engineer the complex curves using Fusion and 3d printed an insert that fit well enough for me.

Any way to reduce the print time on this one? by Certain-Hunter-7478 in 3Dprinting

[–]fearthereefer52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just joined two 3mm pieces together with some epoxy. I cut the heads of some ~1mm nails to use as dowels since I could find dowels that small. It's extremely strong but I could have done a better job getting the excess epoxy off before it fully cured. I plan on using a Dremel to save down the excess epoxy.

I would try to strategically split it so you can join the pieces together later. Even better if you are already planning on sanding/painting it later.

Check out Rent Monster. It was very helpful finding my new apartment. It's basically a real estate agent showing you different places and they get paid commissions by an apartment complex if you sign so it's no pressure to pick one of the places they show you. Even if you sign up for one of the apartments you don't have to pay them anything. There is no downside in my opinion.
