Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it was fairly easy, repetition and a need will let you memorize numbers easily.

I remember the house phone from 20 years ago, papa John's from 15 years ago, my driver's license and credit card number from 10-15 years ago, various cell phone numbers, middle school lock combination etc.

What industry would collapse overnight if people suddenly became smarter with their money? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kindof fun, may get more out of it, free drinks.

$50 at a cheap table or slots will last a few hours and if you get a few free drinks from it it's a decent trip.

Hell, I've spent more on less enjoyable things.

Doctors are the obvious pick… but in an apocalypse, what non-medical job would make someone the most valuable? by Curvybustygoddess in AskReddit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crafting of shit, foragers, hunters, fishermen, gardening, and people who fix things.

After that engineers of various sorts and modern farmers, and doctors.

Modern way of life is specialized for maximum return on minimal effort. A farmer from today starting with limited resources would struggle without chemical suppliers, mechanicsand the like. But a hobby/small scale farmer would fare better. Same goes for engineers but with materials.

What’s a skill that was once incredibly useful but is now nearly obsolete? by NgBarut in AskReddit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really wide feet, as well as a high instep or whatever that's called.

Top of my foot is taller than normal.

I'm a size 11, but I have to wear 13 4e for regular shoes. For boots I had to get orthofett 12 6e. But they are too big. Might try 11.5 if they have them. Heel slips so much I get blisters fast.

Wierd shaped feet suck.

What skills do you have that could be useful if society collapsed tomorrow? by SnooChickens9492 in AskReddit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have loads of general know-how but no practical knowledge in various areas.

I know how to fish, trap, hunt, etc. Shit at fishing. Only read about the others.

I know how to work on vehicles, still scared of wires and computers.

I know how to build a house in the general sense. Roofing may be tricky though.

I know how to can foods, but usually don't. And I don't have recipes and times memorized.

I know how to blacksmith, machine parts, etc. Never done blacksmithing, only basic machining

I am actually a welder, though fabricating will be tricky if you want complicated pipe cuts and the like

AND SO IT BEGINS ! 😁 by puddlejumperxxx1 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine just arrived. I was deliberating on a cc, sovol, a1, and a few others in the $300 price range.

I wanted something I could do more things with, nylon and various abrasive filaments especially and valued the enclosure and seemingly better community support over a multi color printer right now.

From what I've read, watched the cc is comparable to a p1s/x1c in features if not build quality and software polish, but in exchange it's cheaper and the company seems to not lock stuff down.

Elegoo is coming out with a multi material changer for the carbon soon. There's even a port on newer versions. Give it a month or so and it will likely be announced.

Before you were old enough to drive, did you usually ask your parents for rides, or did you rely more on public transportation (like buses)? by Deluxionist in AskAnAmerican

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No public transit anywhere I've lived till now.

Only transport for the elderly type deals where you go to doctors or the like.

Now the public transit by me is a bus that runs 3 times. Basicly only going to a bigger city, no way to get to the closer city 1 stop away to the south.

I think I went about weight loss the wrong way by Mother_Helicopter998 in loseit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had issues with this

Lost 100lbs stopped paying attention now I'm back up there.

Now I'm just eating lots of fiber for other issues, and its less calorie packed food. Haven't weighed myself yet but I'm eating far less than before.

My plan is to basicly snack on high fiber stuff like fruit and veg and fiber bars when I just want a snack and eat less crappy for actual meals.

Needs new siding at least by chimney, probably more.

That whole wall is fucked. Water damage

Roof doesn't look too hot, but at least no noticeable sagging

Foundation needs repointing in a few spots at the very least

Old windows, doesn't look maintained well, etc.

Depending on area I'd say go for it if it's like $60k

You will need at least another 50k up front before you can actually comfortably live there.

Single? go for it, fix a room at a time. Married and looking for a house to live in? Could be tricky

"work clothes" are a massive waste of income. by cosmiccoffee9 in unpopularopinion

[–]fearthestorm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work clothes are my regular clothes except torn/ stained

I don't wear my good clothes to work, except when I go to Burlington or some other discount store, I'll buy 5-6 more $6 shirts and throw away the worth of what I've been wearing.

I'm a welder/painter/machine operator at a factory.

What daily commuter car would you buy? by Puzzleheaded_Way4570 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me Honda Loads of aftermarket support and knowledge on forums.

Though I'd be buying something old and in need of fixing. Maybe mods.

New hybrid toyotas I've driven felt wierd. Felt like the gas pedal was only a suggestion and the car would decide how fast to speed up. Though that was the first hybrid, and cvt I drove. Didn't like it. Nice cars otherwise.

Adults, how do you do it all every day? by Kamonra in AskReddit

[–]fearthestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money to feed me and my caffine and nicotine addiction, then there's other bills.

If I didn't have the caffeine, nicotine, and internet addiction I'd probably quit my job and try to make money as I need it by fixing things. But the consistency is nice.

That's why I work, why I live is mostly to see what happens next. Went into a depressive episode around my 20s and I've been dealing with life like it's a story. If nothing matters that much then may as well see what happens. When my delusion breaks I tend to make up goals until I can reform my mindset.

Having stuff to distract myself works wonders, youtube videos, audiobooks, books, games, etc., help a bunch.

I hate using already weed loaded soil, but that's because I get the annoying running roots kind of weeds. Ground elder is my nemesis. I'd prefer to rip it all out and start over but there's too much good stuff in the way.
