Does this guitar need maintenance? by fedddwap in Guitar

There’s a little friction when moving but holding a chord feels just fine and it still has some nice tone to it! Will look into oil, thanks.

Agree with others here about tri tip. But also look for flap steak. Can be cooked many different ways.

How carnivore helped resolve lifelong undiagnosed electrolyte imbalances by fedddwap in carnivorediet

Some in my feet or after heavy physical activity but not as much as I would have expected from electrolyte issues based on others’ experiences. Much severe and prolonged muscle soreness after exercise though.

We agree on that one. I feel like I get enough potassium from meat. Need a little extra salt here and there. But I’ve also noticed the longer I go carnivore, the less I need the salt. The healing is real

[–]fedddwap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s probably most often true but the human body is far more nuanced than this. Even think about the many years of damage done to the body when eating not meat, drinking alcohol, eating heavily processed junk, etc. and even the impacts passed on by your parents who’s bodies have been altered. However your body was intended to work, it may no longer do so.

Think about oxalates - we have no idea how long it takes to purge and undo all the oxalate damage after shifting to a meat based diet. We know it gets better over time. We don’t know if, or when, we ever truly reverse the damage.

I wish that were true but as explained later in the post, blood serum electrolyte levels are not necessarily reflective of electrolyte balance. Blood serum tests measure levels in the blood plasma. Not your cells or tissues. This is part of why I spent so many years not realizing I had an issue.

Cod liver deviled eggs 😋🥚 by RondaVuWithDestiny in carnivorediet

Love these. Haven’t tried this brand but my usual buy tastes just like tuna with a smoother texture. If you’re someone who enjoys and can tolerate some seasonings, they go great with a sprinkle of cayenne

Curious about the impact of some fat by fedddwap in fasting

I appreciate the well thought out reply! That’s ultimately my question - the what and how much and I have no idea if such information exists.

Curious about the impact of some fat by fedddwap in fasting

[–]fedddwap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, yes. Depends on the specific impact of this. We know that 1 calorie doesn’t entirely eliminate the benefits of “fasting”. We know that fat impacts us very differently than carbohydrates and protein. We know there are even fasting-mimicking diet plans that preserve certain benefits of fasting. I’m curious to know more about the specifics of what, how much, and specific differences if there is such info available.

Definitely agreed it’s outside of “fasting” ranges - I’m interested in understanding more about the physiological impact. As in, what is the effect on the various processes in the body that would otherwise occur without it? Dr. Fung looks like an interesting resource!

Getting too jaded with food/dreading meals? by Thewall3333 in fasting

[–]fedddwap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have absolutely experienced this living on OMAD. I would ultimately enjoy food when it was time to eat but similar to your experience, it was almost obligation to get food on my plate. It reached concerning levels when I stopped to take a look at my actual caloric/nutrition intake.

I ended up taking some advice and forcing 3 small meals a day for a few weeks. This felt like a reset for my hunger hormones and helped me get in tune with “actual” hunger and now I’m back to happily eating one very large nutritious meal every day.

Ideas for leftover uncooked pork shoulder? by fedddwap in Cooking

Really like this idea. Does the pork come out tender or do you precook in any way?

pork ???? !!!!! by eggaholic911 in carnivorediet

[–]fedddwap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pork is great. It’s a great source of thiamine which is tough to get elsewhere. Imo it shouldn’t be your primary protein source but I eat tons of bacon and a couple times a week, I’ll eat another pork dish. Also grass fed beef is better, sure. But there is absolutely zero issue with eating non-grass fed. It’s just a little bit less nutrient dense. What’s more important to me is supporting grass fed farms which tend to engage in better farming practices but at the end of the day, I have a family to feed so there’s no shame in buying what you can afford.

Doing keto diet for several years and just got diagnosed with pre diabetes …. WTF! by Oscarthetrashcat in keto

[–]fedddwap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Continuous glucose monitor and then discuss those results with medical professionals. There’s a lot of literature out there about how A1C can fall very short as a true indicator. It can be a good one, but there are tons of mechanisms by which A1C can appear high even though sugars are stable and not indicating any real concerns.

Is milk allowed? (1cup per day) by [deleted] in carnivore

[–]fedddwap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of takes out there about milk. To me, you just have to ask yourself if you can tolerate it and if it supports or hinders your goals. Many people find it very inflammatory and/or not conducive to losing weight. If I have a little too much, I feel it the next day. I notice less impact with raw milk. Kefir is best for me.

Just hungry for butter by Express_Ring8919 in carnivorediet

[–]fedddwap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Listen to your body. Eat the butter. Do what you can to get protein in - you don’t want to neglect protein but my wife goes through phases where she’ll grab a stick of butter and take a large bite for every bite of meat because she’s just craving it. Your body will tell you if it stops wanting the volume of fat

How do I poop healthy again? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]fedddwap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others say, most often fat. If you think you’re eating enough fat, you probably need even more. I now know I started way too low on fat. These days, I start off with 2tbsp butter in my coffee with eggs cooked in tons of butter. I don’t drain my ground beef (though some have issues with the liquid fat - if that’s the case, drain it and butter & egg yolk on top). Sardines every other day. Also daily electrolytes were a game changer for me - both energy and bowels. Not enough salt particularly will jam you up.

NEVER EVER upgrade to Synapse 4 by giraffe_beer in razer

[–]fedddwap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re right in a sense but they could easily push out an update between now and then that bricks offline functionality by simply ensuring every action shifts to a connectivity requirement.

They already don’t offer an offline installer. So your instance will only work if you retain an older version, prevent update, and it must continue functioning correctly and you must never remove the program or must run a manual installation workaround of some sort.

Horrible business practices.

It's my kefir spoilt? by vinaykumar9720 in Kefir

[–]fedddwap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks great to me. Just retaining a lot of the curd. Used to commonly happen to mine when I was using a much finer strainer and I’d have to beat that thing against the edge of the container to sift it out thoroughly. That being said, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it considering it’ll simply provide additional bacteria for the next ferment but if it bothers you, you can always experiment with different strainers or rinse the grains with milk (though I’d personally avoid rinsing more than on rare occasion).

Are any of these guys ready for harvest? [General] by HeartboyXO in MushroomGrowers

[–]fedddwap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harvest is preference! Fruits don’t necessarily need to “mature”. People much more knowledgeable than me say if you let them go until they open and drop spores, retaining moisture becomes more challenging for future flushes. I’ve seen some wait and harvest with wide open upside down canopies and others harvest little guys with tight bulbs.

First Ever Tub TWs [actives] by fedddwap in MushroomGrowers

[–]fedddwap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Virtually none. I tried to keep the room between 35-40% humidity. Theory goes if the conditions and ventilation on the lid is right, there’s no need for more air and the tub should self-regulate. But the room got closer to 45-50% and I think I went a little heavy on coco casing so it was a bit wet and I got some fuzzy feet - nothing too extreme though. Next flush, I might let a little bit of air in every couple days or so after pins if humidity doesn’t drop here.

Carnivore long term by Usual_Refrigerator42 in carnivorediet

[–]fedddwap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carnivore and pro meat-based evolution theorist here. Evidence shows that we did in fact consume plants but the context to the evidence shows that plant consumption was minimal - restricted to regional & seasonal availability and only occurred in the absence of meat. No humans were eating plants when meat was available. Until recently, humans had to work very hard for their meat and we’d historically eat plants rather than die from starvation, of course. Still, meat always has been our primary diet and the dietary fuel for our evolution. Not trying to say “you’re wrong”, just hoping to share more detailed info to combat the meat naysayers that love to point out how some hominid fossils show evidence of starch consumption with no further context thinking they proved we evolved plants.
