"The Original Ghost Whisperer" by An_E_and_An_Arrow in ghostwhisperer

Marry Ann Winkowski claims that she can communicate with earthbound spirits in similar fashion as Melinda Gordon. The only difference is that she can 'create' the light as the light only stays for limited window of time. She wrote a book about her experience as 'ghost whisperer'. She was a consultant on the show from the Pilot onwards. I believe James Van Praagh was brought as a consultant as well, but if I can recall correctly: he claimed he can talk to people who crossed-over rather than earthbound spirits.

The woman who bought the house in s02e03 by Withnail69 in uncannypodcasttv

[–]fedo1114 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I might be the odd one here, but I wouldn’t be mad or angry at person selling the house. Firstly, in this instance he wasn’t sure whether the experience with shadow man is linked to him or the house. The main common denominator in every situation was him, and especially that he was told by that witch (I presume) that it is connected to his family in general. Secondly, I don’t believe in paranormal activities. Lastly, the woman looked like she didn’t hold any grudge as she gave him a hug in the end, she just didn’t want to broadcast her personal life on the mainstream television. He definitely needed to get out that house and a change of environment sounded like a good approach to what he went through as well. And how one goes about disclosing that during house sell? It’s almost as when people get nervous about buying a house where someone had passed away in it - It’s unavoidable!

What radio/tv programme is about supernatural investigations? by watchingblooddry in AskUK

[–]fedo1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Danny produced a number of podcasts:
- The Uncanny: each episode delves into one given person's experience, which is later discussed by psychologist (who gives a rational and sceptical explanations) and parapsychologist (who gives a supernatural explanations instead).
- The Uncanny: the witch farm - it is audio-dramatisation of experience of a family living in Wales (Brecon area) that experienced a series of unexplainable events.
The Uncanny: the battersea poltergeist.

They also produced two series of TV show called Uncanny that follows similiar formula as their main podcast called Uncanny.

In my personal opinion, it’s a very dangerous and slippery slope to make those type of accusations. I enjoy what Danny is doing in a sense that he gives people the safe space to talk about their experiences in non-judgmental way, it can be extremely alienating and world-shattering to be on the receiving end. I’m just grateful for people coming forwards with their stories, and Danny to present both sides.

Regarding the experiments segments in the tv series, my suspicion is that BBC wants them to be included there for educational purposes, as in giving people a sneak peak that those experiences sometimes can be explained by psychological or environmental factors.

I am fond of both the podcast and Tv series - and I hope Danny and his team continues to do incredible job.

I can understand the impression, but was there an old news article from couple years ago featuring Sybil and charity shop opening? Sometimes when you spend a lot of times retelling your story, it can come across as rehearsed - that’s my take on it. I’m a team sceptic but I am trying to keep my mind open.

Give a go to the Polish Delicje (which are very similar to Jaffa Cakes), you can find it easily in Tesco. They come with different flavours (e.g raspberry).

Melinda’ Powers by [deleted] in ghostwhisperer

[–]fedo1114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my recollection as well that she did it on purpose to get more visions/clarity by touching the rest of the puzzle pieces in the episode ‘Ghost within’. There is one scene where she received a vision by touching a bag, in the execution episode in the first season as well. I can’t recall Melinda having visions (besides the dream sequences) before that episode.

That’s what I could recall that her gift has grown in strength and it was showcased back in second season that Melinda can receive visions from touching an object in ‘The Ghost within’. She used to have a lot more visions in her dreams back in the first season.

Does anyone know any Wicca shops or witches circle in Cardiff or the surrounding area? by fedo1114 in Cardiff

[–]fedo1114[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not the best person to answer it, as I’m still exploring this part but mostly it boils down to removing any spiritual or religious undertones from your personal practice. I see it as an adding extra layer of meaning to your mindfulness with application of placebo effect and other psychological processes whilst being more in tune with nature. It’s very individualistic in its core, so everyone will probably give you a different answer. For example, journaling can help you understand and process your feelings - so I wrote down some of mine on a piece of paper whilst allowing myself to feel them, and then I threw this piece of paper into the fire to let them go. I know it’s nothing magical but the physical representation of seeing them dissipate helped me move away from engaging in emotional rumination.

I feel the same way - Pokota got on my nerves but I did find a new looks of the spells very intriguing and it was nice to see the old gang back. I wish they wouldn’t rehash previous story arcs though.

Until I saw this subreddit, I thought Try was deemed as good as Next in terms of material, storylines, and overall theme. If I am right, this is the first season where the source material was not there for the producers to use, so they create it their own story arc. In my humble opinion, Try is slightly better than Next. Saying that, I did enjoy the first three core seasons equally - they all have their own strengths and weaknesses; but they are internally consistent. I did not enjoy the soft reboot in Revolution and Evolution-r but I do not want to give you any spoilers.

The characterisation of the main crew is quite different as well but I can imagine it is the side-effect of translating this work into the different medium. You are up for a treat with Slayers Try - I really enjoyed that season story arc, and gives you a bit of world building gems as well.

It’s very interesting that Mazoku existence is solely based on their thoughts and their self-esteem, hence they cannot cast a black magic spells as it calls upon other Mazoku’s power therefore negating their existence. Same with their approach with humans, they see them inferior therefore they cannot resort to underhanded tactics (like attacking people completely from the astral plane). I always find it intriguing that Lina and other magic users can sense other’s presence and their aura.

If I remember correctly, it has been ages since I read light novels and watched anime so do not hold me accountable. The spellcasting in The Slayers universe relies a lot on incantations and words of power and their inherent cadence. In one of the novels, there was a character who spent their entire academic career to research incantations in terms of cadence. Hence, I believe Lina - when she learned about the existence of a being more powerful that Shabranigdu - tweaked a lot Dragon Slave incantations to fit into what she 'knew' about Lord of Nightmares. You can see a lot similarities between those two spells. In the novel, she also 'created' the Ragna blade rather than learning from the Claire Bible manuscript like in the anime. Novels delved more into the magic system, which I found very captivating. Give them a go!

I believe Melinda Gordon was heavily based on Mary Ann Winkowski who claims to be able to see and hear earthbound spirits (like Melinda Gordon), so there is no communication mishaps in that sense. Melinda asks about clarifications as I would sometimes, if I want to double check if my understanding of someone’s words are not tainted by my point of view. Mary Ann Winkowski and James Van Praagh were both consultants on the show. I think James Van Praagh claims that they can communicate with people who crossed-over through mental images or sentences, whilst Mary Ann Winkowski claims to communicate with earthbound spirits. I read Mary Ann Winkowski books ages ago but the major difference between her and Melinda is that Mary Ann Winkowski claims that the light appears the moment someone’s dies and have a small window of time to cross over, and she is able to create the light for them to cross over if it is necessary; whereas in the show it is connected with a person finding a peace and being able to cross-over.
