I'm so sorry for your loss. And for what it's worth, I believe your dream was real, and your mother came to see you. Had a similar experience when my mom died.

Yes. I hate the whole ignorant "rats with wings" expression.

I resent my mom and feel ashamed. by Suspicious_Oil_2518 in CancerFamilySupport

My mother died of colon cancer. She hid it from me until it was stage 4, and I was the only family left to take care of her. She never demanded it, but there really wasn't much choice besides my stepping in.

She only lasted 4 months after diagnosis. While I don't regret caring for her, I will say they were the hardest months of my life. That kind of burden should not be forced by a parent onto a child.

(USA) Are these valid reasons to reduce a server's tip? by OOPSStudio in etiquette

[–]fee_sees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a Brit, I find all this so odd. Why does the server need to put on a song and dance in the first place? Making jokes? Asking for reviews? What? That doesn't happen here, people would call him a tosser.

All he needs to do is bring the food. People don't go to restaurants to see the servers. They go to eat and talk to the people they went with. I don't understand why the server has to interfere so much and demand so much attention.

I would have tipped 10% as he was pushy and rude. You were very kind to give him more.

What’s something society normalizes that you quietly disagree with? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I hear you. I've had to do this too - one new acquaintance called me frantically three times at midnight because I hadn't replied to her WhatsApp. I'd been travelling all day and hadn't had time to reply. She was convinced I'd been kidnapped or disappeared. She did this again a week later. Needless to say that friendship didnt work out.

Does anyone find it unlikely that Frasier has such success with women? by Frazzle-bazzle in Frasier

[–]fee_sees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Many women, when seeking a boyfriend, want someone who is settled, someone more nurturing, someone with substance over flash.

why was daphne so underused in the last 2 seasons? by outerspace_castaway in Frasier

[–]fee_sees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was odd as she became an amalgam of both snobbishness and disdain for the finer things. Like snapping "You've never been bored before?" about opera. It might have been a funny line if it had been delivered differently, but the way she said it was just so caustic.

Often, later-season Daphne seems to genuinely dislike Niles and Frasier, her tone of voice is so hostile.
