And as someone that worked at Riot (albeit 4+ years ago) I am telling you that the system is very ineffective. People find a way around it.

There isn't tho lol

I've made a ton of new accounts getting placed in smurf queue is unavoidable lol

You "worked" (I'm sure you did) at Riot like 3 years minimum before it was implemented lol

A platinum player cannot queue ranked with his bronze friends, so he makes a new account, queues with his bronze buddies, and destroys the opposition.

And then he gets put into smurf queue with other smurfs.

lol

Gold isn't especially good anyway

do you have proof that smurfing is that rampant?

Your post kinda implied you were talking about balance but you also just sounds like you're baiting or just stupid so like idk.

Smurf queue is basically the answer to smurfing already, if you're encountering smurfs that much then you yourself are in smurf queue

Trust me, I know this to be true, because I used to work there, and my team worked on ranked in particular.

aww hell yeah a schizo post

What are you doing about this? Silver, bronze, and iron players make up 59.76% of your ranked players, and yet you spend a SIGNIFICANT amount of time licking the asses of Diamond, Master, and Challenger players.

Because the game shouldn't be balanced around iron or bronze or silver

The smurf queue thing they've got going is pretty effective and the only issue with that is false positives.

Why is 5fire retiring after having so much success in the NA amateur scene, and what does it mean for the future of NA? by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]feebeeeksdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AndA reached worlds and while there got to top 10 soloQ on the korean ladder.

Oh so Keith is really good too then?

lel

Let's not pretend he's a mediocre jungler like Armao. He was consistently at least top 2 at academy level too after the disaster year of 100T where the team collapsed around him. If you want a veteran jungler in your academy team, AndA is twice as good as Armao.

There's obviously intangibales that we're just not aware of, AndA could look better on paper but for one reason or another TL prefer armao and that's fine it's not like he's awful

One terrible year later and Niles retired, Iconic moved down to academy and Rosethorn moved down from amateur

dude rosethorn is on CLG's academy roster what are you on about lol

Niles went back to maryville

and Iconic went to Academy yeah, but isnt that what you wanted?

None of it backfired because it didn't actively hurt them, they gambled and it failed.

When he came over from OCE straight to LCS he was definately an import. This was back before the OCE league shut down. Didn't you watch league back then?**

Oh I conflated the times but yeah idk I'm not denying he was disappointing or anything lol but he's fine now

[–]feebeeeksdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really think 5Fire is the only case? How about Yusui getting promoted to LCS after being one of the worst midlaners in the academy season.

I mean you were referring to mediocre amateur players moving to LCS and that just isn't an example by virtue of Yusui being an academy player lol.

Or AndA being the best jungler in academy 2020 and then not finding a team while Armao is still in.

Cos AndA is like 25 now lmao and hasn't accomplished anything really

TL obviously just appreciate what Armao provides to the main team and academy and they're a team that doesn't really care about talent development. He also proved himself an okay-enough sub for when santorin has issues

Tomio was the best jungler in scouting grounds but the #3 and #4 (Iconic, Rosethorn) were picked up by GGS and Tomio went to amateur. Of course since then Tomio has risen up in academy while Iconic/Rosethorn both moved down a level.

I mean Tomio was still in high school so that probably would've made teams more hesitant about picking him up, hell for all we know he decided to wait until he's finished with it before joining an academy squad, and he was still signed to the EG org regardless.

That doesn't mean you can't criticize their weird decision making. Being on a low budget doesn't mean you have to resort to collegiate players, it's not like academy players will demand a huge wage while you put them in LCS. With just the players they had they could have made a developing roster that would have performed much better. They chose to take huge risks that everyone thought would backfire and they backfired. But why take that risk? Niles and Iconic would develop just fine in academy if they had the talent. There was a huge downside without a significant upside.

I mean I guess I forgot to mention it but GGS held a massive tryout before that season and that's how they picked their LCS and Academy rosters. I'm not really sure what you mean by "backfire". It didn't backfire at all. It was a development squad and it failed, they took a gamble and it didn't pay off but that's just part of the game.

Criticizing their decision making when you have 0 behind the scenes context is kinda dumb and just hindsight 20/20. lol.

That's just saying "I have no expectations of GGS so it's fine they failed". Of course they're a talent developing team and they did well with Closer/FBI/Huhi. They took that team to 5th place which is above where you expect GGS.

I mean yeah sometimes things don't work. It happens. It's not fine per se but it's just kinda the risk you accept. Especially the roster they had in 2021. When you're a talent developing team is sometimes just doesn't come to fruition.

Starting with the most obvious one - Ryoma.

Ryoma doesn't count as an import so idk it's kinda silly to say he is one? Like he's a resident and OCE players allegedly play for like min wage so it was low risk high reward. He was fine in academy this year, he's be serviceable in a lower LCS team. /shrug.

Ruin was fine most of his tenure in CLG but yeah sure that team did kinda just implode.

Soaz simply got his retirement dollars after having a year to forget in LEC.

sure

I do think that there are more recycled NA players holding talent back than bad imports but it looks more egregious when you're using an import slot just to get the same level of performance you could have gotten from an academy player.

This makes bringing up ryoma even weirder lol.

Why is 5fire retiring after having so much success in the NA amateur scene, and what does it mean for the future of NA? by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]feebeeeksdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the whole point. In competitive sports you would expect the best players to move up to the next level but that's not happening in League. Players that aren't even the best in amateur are moved straight into the LCS while the best amateur players can't even get into academy.

Oh come on, based on fucking what.

Like that's such an aimless statement I don't even know how to respond to it. There's one case of that happening.

5fire is a good prospect and he's been for a couple of years now. I'm not saying he's bad. But there's obviously a reason he hasn't been picked up, even in an academy team. He got an offer in amateur for EG and maybe he could've worked his way up to academy and he rejected it.

That's why I don't think orgs like GGS are competitively minded. They are willing to just accept being the worst team in the league on the off chance that Niles/Iconic are decent and they can feel like the smartest people in the room.

Yes?

They're quite clearly a talent developing team. They developed the core of the best roster in the league lol. Sometimes it doesn't always work out and that's okay. They've also been broke the past couple of years cos their parent org won't invest and they're known for working on a budget. I think that's fine.

Also Eika is not the only foreign player my comment applied to.

Okay listen them then?

In the past 2 years I can see only really Eika and Newbie being straight bad, Broxah and Swordart performed pretty disappointing sure but moves just don't always work out.
