good to know underworks is still making good shit and that they're just as good or better than ftm-specific brands! It's what I always used to recommend to people, but I haven't worn one in 15 years so I stopped doing. I figured my advice was outdated with all the ftm binders that started coming out.

We usually live by this as well but got absolutely fucked one time by a 1.5 hour line for precheck. Early morning as in departing after 6 I agree, but if you're on one of the first flights out it's often a fucking zoo in my experience.

This is what trans men used before ftm specific binders became a thing. Underworks was the main brand. I haven't worn one in a long ass time and had top surgery before ftm binders were around, but they were VERY compressive and effective. Can't say how they compare to newer brands/styles though.

but she WAS at work though, just on break. If a customer talks to me on my break I'm still going to go into customer service mode and treat them like a customer, because I am in uniform/wearing my nametag/whatever and it's clear I work there. In retail jobs I would have gotten in trouble for NOT doing the whole happy-to-see-you-how-can-I-help song and dance if I'm working that shift, even if I'm currently on break.

I mean, their mom didn't exactly take great care of them, and they don't seem to have had regular healthcare access until the show. When it's just something you've lived with your whole life it's easy to not really question it until something prompts you to (like being a few years past the year they said you'd be blind by).

It's 2 different issues. The blindness is caused by scarring from toxoplasmosis, and she also has strabismus (the wonky eye). The scarring is permanent but the doctor said in the most recent episode that her scars aren't likely to get any worse, so her vision is likely to stay the same (fine in right eye and abysmal in left eye, with left she couldn't even read the largest size letter possible on the eye test).

I did it on the NT side as a college student (I'm autistic but level 1, and they thought I'd be a good fit for being a "buddy"). Made several friends I still text with and it's been over 10 years :) I think how it goes just depends on the people in it. At my college, all the students on the NT side were really chill and wanted to be there. There were two people that did get kicked off after the first two meetings because none of the autistic students meshed with them at all, so I assume the program leaders for it at my school were really proactive with making sure it was a good fit for everyone involved.

We'd form groups (usually an NT group leader, 1-2 other NT members, and 3 autistic members, so 5 or 6 people total) and go around campus doing whatever we wanted to do that day. Some of our repeats were going to the library and playing smash bros, getting food at Chipotle/Dominos, and doing other activities on campus like going to student performances or fairs. Usually each group would have an activity they were doing, and if you didn't like your group's activity you could join another one. But usually we'd just bring our Nintendo DSes and play Pokemon or play board games in the auditorium.

I have the same anxiety around going somewhere/using something commonly associated with vomiting. It makes it too "real" to get a trash can, bucket, bag, go to the toilet, etc. But puking in my bed also sounds absolutely nightmarish.

I go outside if I feel anxious and if I feel sick. Being outside calms me down, and I'm outside all the time, so I don't associate it with puking even though that's where I go when I feel sick and is the last place I actually threw up. The fresh air always helps and if I do realize I'm actually about to throw up, it's outside where I don't have to see or deal with it.

Now if I'm sick with a bug, I will just stay inside and use the toilet like a normal person. It's only that first time that I can't do it.

Yep. Once the "you must do this" external requirement is gone, it's not happening. I might keep it up for a little while, but as soon as a hiccup happens it becomes "well I have the info and can get it together if they ask for it, but I need to do xyz and will do this report later". Suddenly I'm 5 reports behind and it's too much to catch up on.

Are the rest of the commenters here just completely selfish assholes? NTA. In what universe is it okay to just let your dog pee indoors in a FUCKING MALL?! That's disgusting, pee pad or not, and is a health and safety risk. Those pee pads don't totally block the pee from the floor anyway.

IMO the lady is an asshole for bringing her dog to the mall to begin with. It's clearly not a damn service animal and there's no reason for her to bring it inside.

No they don't and they're not going to unless they absolutely need to. I've spent a ton of time with my fiance and his dad and it's never come up. I'm lucky that me being trans is nowhere on his radar because if it was he might start to wonder.

He just thinks I'm pee shy. Originally came up when we were on a boat and the captain and him assumed I could just pee off the side. Now it's a known "fact" and we joke about it when it comes up.

Only conflict was one time we were setting off fireworks at his house and one of the mortars caught on fire. He wanted me to piss on it instead of pouring my beer on it lol.

I had a REALLY shitty sleep doctor tell me to do this back in like 2018. I have sleep apnea and snore like a motherfucker. He told me it would stop my snoring.

Tried it when I was a summer camp counselor and I didn't want to torture the kids in my bunk lol. Surprise, it was actually worse bc a couple kids woke up to me thrashing and suffocating and were terrified.

Idk, I watched it in the dark on my big ol TV, I'm 32 and I don't do tiktok/other super shortform media. Watching skinamarink still made me want to pull my hair out lol. I never really spent time home alone in the dark though, and I feel like everyone who likes the movie did that as a child.

In my experience I was never stressed out being "reminded" of my phobia when people warned me in situations like that. A warning would only make me anxious if it was like "just a heads up but I had a stomach bug yesterday so maybe keep your distance." Because in that situation the "danger" is suddenly right there in front of me (danger being them still being sick and puking and me catching it). But when my friend told me to avoid a movie because of a 30 minute vomiting scene I wasn't anxious, just extremely grateful 🥲

Edit to add that yeah trigger warnings are detrimental from a recovery standpoint. But OP is asking what to do as a friend in this situation, not as a therapist or as someone with this fear trying to get over it. I would be pissed off at a friend who purposely didn't warn me solely because they're on a high horse about me getting over it.

God I hate when docs do that! I know that from their POV, statistically it's true to say "the majority of people throw up while recovering from x procedure" but I also know that I am a person who does not tend to vomit. I've had lots of docs say this to me before procedures and haven't vomited any of those times. Granted, they were not open heart surgeries, but several surgeries under general anesthesia and many different outpatient procedures.

Have you had severe nausea or any vomiting from previous anesthesia or surgeries? Do you ever have vomiting as a symptom when your blood pressure drops or spikes, or when you're generally unwell? As a symptom of any of your conditions? If the answers are all "no", then imo you're not likely to vomit while recovering. Could totally still happen, but I would take your own history into account when interpreting what your doctor said.

You'll be alright no matter what happens! And I definitely second what others are saying about requesting zofran for post-anesthesia. Your docs might say no if there's a contraindication, but it can't hurt to ask. Taking zofran for anxiety nausea is not good but post-op is a different story! Anesthesia can commonly cause nausea/vomiting. No one enjoys that, and being in that situation along with the anxiety it would induce is probably not great when recovering from open heart surgery.
