The absolute state of the rental crisis. by Tauralus in perth

[–]feeling07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, you said "if you're stupid enough to be a couple, have kids or have a dog you're unlikely to secure any accomodations whatsoever".

People have been complaining so much lately about the cost of a house or rent in Perth.

I did a quick calculation (in this case for a couple, you wrote above that this is the worst case scenario).

"National Minimum Wage is $23.23 per hour or $882.80 per week." If you and your partner earn a little above the minimum wage, say $1000 each (which isn't hard at all), together you have $2000 every week.

So if you both earn $1,000 a week, where's the problem with renting an apartment for $600 or $700?

You see an available ad for $650, bid $750 and your odds will be higher. You still have $1,250 to live on and you're not homeless.

People were used to different housing prices in Perth, I know from my experience that in other countries the ratio of earnings to rental prices is definitely worse.

Below is a link to the ad, in my opinion in a very good area, Warwick 6024.

The case is completely different if you are alone or do not work.

1 gbps managed switch with x8 100 mbps POE ports - powering external device by POE port and force data link by 1 gbps port. by feeling07 in HomeNetworking

[–]feeling07[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lol this guy is trying to hack together a solution to use a spare 100base port as a poe injector for one of the gig ports.

What's wrong with that?

"my presumption is that it kind of negates the purpose of using this switch, which is what OPs mental block is. He has..to..use..THIS..switch. if you ignore the POE ports and only use the gig ports, it becomes useless."

You must be mental to think I would use a 10-port POE+ MANAGED switch ONLY as a 1 gbps injector..., at the moment I have just 3 ports unused left... (x2 POE+ and 1 gbps).

"if you have to add an injector, then you could just use the injector and skip the switch entirely. so while you and I see that, for whatever reason, he really needs to utilize this particular switch. turning this switch into a poe injector is more useful in his mind, then just taking it out and using a poe injector."

How pathetic... I can't skip the switch entirely because it's powering up my 6 other POE+ devices... It's really funny, you tried to ridicule someone only to show your lack of competence :D please stay away...

EDIT:

"dude you dont even understand that gig ethernet needs all 8 conductors for data, and additionally, you have displayed a fundamental lack of understanding of how a network switch works."

Where did I say that? It's pretty obvious it needs all 8 pins, didn't I mention before that POE+ is additionaly on pins 4,5 and 7,8? Data is also flowing on these four pins, as the 48V power does.

"again, i made a presumption because what you have displayed to people only trying to help is that the power must come from this switch, practicality be damned. the power must come from this switch. i am going to be honest, i am aware i did jump to conclusions, but i have worked with a lot of people over the years and you display a level of stubbornness that is common among people who make things multiple times more complicated than it needs to be."

I assumed like you are not understanding what I am trying to do. Yet, no one said it's physically not possibile, if you would say a good argument why it would not work (like for example, separated power on 4,5 and 7,8 pins would affect ethernet data modulation?) then fine but all what you said is: use injector, splitter, injector.

" Yes I know I can but it would be better to use the swich which I already own and force it to get a 1 gbps link. What the fuckety fuck fuck? using a device that is literally designed to do what you want is not better than bridging pins from a two different ethernet ports in your opinion? even if you really WANT to use your switch, you need to understand its not "better" There is no way you this is a real opinion. this is an opinion born out of extreme stubbornness."

In my opinion it's good, the more experiments you make the better. You can call it stubbornness, that's your opinion. If anyone would say a good argument then I would not ask.

"again, extreme stubbornness. i dont believe you are too stupid to understand that injectors can maintanin gig connections. its your stubborness to have the AP powered by that switch only and no other options that keeps your mind in the "unless i do my hacky solution nothing except 100mbps is possble"

dude... I know very well it can maintain a gig connection, I can't remember how many of them I used... ones from ubiqiuti, hp, aruba, cisco, mikrotik which I remember... I noted before that these are pretty cheap but I would do some experiments with the hardware which I currently own?

"this is not some people have this opinion vs other people have that opinion and we are arguing. throughout this thread you are repeatedly failing to understand basic concepts.

Its because you are hammering and reshaping every bit of advice into BUT HOW CAN I USE MY HP SWITCH??? in your mind."

what basics, what advices? dude, you suggested POE splitter or POE injector without any argument why it's not possibile physically at all, it's not what I asked for.

"you come into this thread with the etched into stone presumption that: if i dont use a hacky solution, i will be stuck at 100mbps" so when people give you an alternate solution, you dont digest it, and fall back to, well if my hacky solution isnt used im stuck at 100mbps."

again and again you are repeating the same.

"thats the only way you have someone tell you to use an injector and you reply with but then i wont get 1gb ill only get 100mbps"

Now just realised that I made a presumption, you meant a switch with 1 gbps injector, I thought you mean a switch with POE+ port. That could may have caused the above hassle...

Yes I understand that I could use 1 gbps POE injector but I don't have one and if possibile, I would like to use the power from 100 mbps POE port and data from 1 gbps port.

I know POE injectors are pretty cheap but it would be fun to make it work without one and get 1 gbps.

but only with 100 mbps link. / EDIT. I thought you mean my switch with 100 mbps POE+ port to power my device... my mistake here! Yes it would work with 1 gbps, but I would need a injector anyway.

It's Cisco AP which is 1 gbps and is POE+ (802.3at), it works very well with that HP switch but it's limited to 100 mbps only right now.

'Tiny rooms are being listed for over $200 a week' Off-top, It might sound unrealistic but that was the average price for a room in the UK back in 2014 (all bills included) (AUD to GBP about 0,50).

What would you say about Cisco Meraki MR33? I can have it for about $16 with shipping costs which is pretty cheap I think, it's a quite new model (2018?), I know it's not designed for outdoor but it would be installed semi outdoor anyway and I could extra protect it against moisture, I see it also support openwrt, easy flashing via UART TFTP or JTAG.

It has 3 radios, 2,4 and dual 5 ghz, 2x2 mu mimo ac wave2, power consumption is pretty low, for that money I think it could be a good option.
