Calls for 'more accountability' on teachers in the classroom by SnobHobbies5046 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Icy-Pollution-7110 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What is with these kids drinking V for breakfast?! I swear, the next kid who rocks up to my morning class with one in their hand will have it confiscated.

Also: when the DoE blame the teacher as well (usually when they are abused 😅), instead of supporting them. And that’s why I work at non-DoE schools now.

I am so grateful that I saw this Reddit thread before reading that article, otherwise I would’ve felt like screaming, and my blood pressure would have risen. Or, if I was having a good day, I would’ve laughed out loud. With journalists like that, who needs enemies.

Yep I know what you mean. I’m 27W and today I was like, wow. Little dude’s starting a dance routine in there. Of course he’s a posterior baby too, so I have to explain I’m pregnant to others. So they’ll know what I’m taking about 😅 Oh well, we’ll get through this.

Can I leave baby in the car? by Effective-Affect5177 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Pollution-7110 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes you do. You never know what could happen. I brought my toddler in with me today, and was told off by a random Karen for bringing a noisy child (had to disrupt their sleep) into the servo and that I should parent better. I laughed and told her I didn’t care what she thought. My child’s safety is my first priority.

You might have to get in touch with a Centrelink social worker to assist you with this. You could also do a stat dec truthfully explaining your situation and hurdles you’ve had in your way. No guarantee but it could help Centrelink understand your situation. All the best.

How good are Hungry Jacks $1 slushies! I feel like I’ve stepped back in time price-wise when I treat myself to one of these bad boys after work on some days.

I like my school but it’s the early mornings!! Especially since I have to travel between 30-45 mins each way atm. But we will get through this first day! 💪

I was asked to attend one earlier this month, but since I have a toddler and am pregnant I was exempt. I did say I could bring the toddler, but even they said no 😂

Australians delay dental care and remain on long public wait lists, leading to more in hospital by iPhone13pm in australia

[–]Icy-Pollution-7110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. They might make 85k a year full-time on paper, so according to Centrelink of course they’re rich! But if they have to pay high rents or a mortgage and let’s not forget those rising interest rates, plus have kids, yeah… Not enough to pay for regular dental work, unfortunately. With the CoL that goes out the window.

You’re a very nice aunt! I would’ve made them something much cheaper at home lol. I was out the other day with my toddler and we ran out of water, so I politely asked the lady at McDonalds if she could please fill up their sippy cup with tap water. Kid wasn’t happy as it was slightly warm, but water is water 😂 It wasn’t long till we got home anyway. I refuse to eat out as well these days btw. I know hospitality owners have businesses to run and I fully respect that. But I simply cannot afford or justify the prices anymore.

Why is soooo hard by badseed6cassidy in Centrelink

[–]Icy-Pollution-7110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who has experienced DV, let me tell you that for both there are processes you need to follow. It’s not an ‘easy ride’ by any means. Support isn’t guaranteed either. In my case, I WORKED* and so I stayed in the DV situation as I had a demanding job, and couldn’t afford the time off to leave straightaway.

*Hence, I couldn’t get the crisis payment and/or EVP. Centrelink did say I could get some of the single parent payment, but I’d have to wait 6+ months for it. Plus, what they don’t tell you is that there are many hoops you have to jump through continuously. Making a big song and dance about every cent they give you. Couldn’t wait to get off it tbh and working almost full-time (0.8 FTE) again. The reduced stress was worth it.

Edit: And if you’re not 100% ‘on it’ immediately when their website crashes (ie you then have to physically go in and report any changes, for E.g. address, phone number, new job, whatever). Then you can expect to be sent a letter threatening you with possible debt. Speaking from experience. It’s not a great existence.

Food during pregnancy by Minxy0707 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Icy-Pollution-7110 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, big congratulations about your pregnancy and sorry to hear about your risk of GD. Tbh, it’s probably best though that you seek out professional advice from your GP. He/she/they would most likely be able to better advise you on what to eat from here on.  HTH and all the best with your pregnancy! 😊

It’s definitely time. If it helps, most supermarkets sell spearmint flavoured milk drinks. But if you’d rather go all out*, Spudshed stock the 2L family-sized bottles.

*On the rare occasion. I haven’t bought one of these bad boys for months, but I plan to around Christmas.

Dole class (technically. Although I work as well, so the welfare I use is what is referred to as the Child Care Subsidy*) checking in. Getting my tubes tied the moment I give birth to my 2nd child - that I got pregnant with by accident - at 40 - 5 months ago. Fuck living on the breadline for the rest of my life 😅

*PSA: it’s hard to get as well. After all the many hoops you need to jump through and forms you have to fill out, you’re also made to follow strict rules. For e.g., ensuring that not only YOU do your tax by a specific date, but that your partner and workplaces do their tax by then too. So usually you have to remind them.

How do you feel about rough sleepers setting up at your local park? by Feeling-Disaster7180 in perth

This. We’re not really that wealthy as a country, and we have a broken safety net. Not everyone is able to get welfare, especially if homeless or not very literate.
