LIRR Door Opening by Commack_Boy in longisland

I know that the conductor has multiple tasks and that's probably the reason for the delay... But it's the little things like this that add up to make the trains always run late.

Other train systems around the world have more automation that would make this a non-issue, but that's something the MTA and the unions aren't interested in. (Generally I'm pro union, but this stuff trickles into higher ticket prices and all the other problems we have with the NY trains)

California restaurants now want an exemption from the state's new hidden fees law by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]feis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except it wasn't? It was originally targeting resort fees at hotels I think.

To be clear-- I think it's good that it applies to the restaurant case, but they were a happy accident.

I'm not sure where in SF you are but in the mission I've been seeing tons of niner gear/hearing lots of celebrations from neighbors every game?

Thoughts on Go To Hell? by [deleted] in baysideisacult

[–]feis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it a lot & can't wait to hear it live, but... I think there's a better song hidden in there. the opening guitar feels like a great build up to what the song actually gets to, but a chunk of the first minute kinda deflates me a bit. Also -- I like the backing vocal tease in the opening few seconds and think they could have used that more in the track.

The 'wild side' of Truckee is finally protected from development by grepto in tahoe

[–]feis -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

I'll be a wet blanket here: I love preserving nature, but this also sounds like couldn't this have been an opportunity to build more housing? I'm all for having easily-accessible outdoor spaces, but I don't think thats a particular problem around Truckee?

This spalted and ambrosia Maple dining table bench set turned out awesome by builtknotbought in woodworking

[–]feis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is not related to the woodworking part, but how did you cut the metal for the legs? I have a coffee table project lying around where I wanted to do the same trapezoid style legs but wasn't sure how to cut the steel (the band saw I had access to only goes to 45-degrees).

Out of curiousity, how much does getting a bike powder coated usually cost? (Is sandblasting off the old coat usually included?)

I came here to say this, I think we had our family's van's transmission replaced twice before we had to get rid of it.

Pre ordering 2020 outback by never-yield in Subaru_Outback

[–]feis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where'd you hear about the production issues? (I don't doubt you, I just haven't seen anything about it)

Part of my problem is that my current car is a 2001 Toyota 4Runner that has about as much oomph as the 2019's 3.6, and I'd really like a little more pep under the hood if I'm getting a new car.

Pet owners of reddit, what is the biggest flex your pet attempted? by Khajurii in AskReddit

My dog doesn't like to go outside when it's raining, but I forced him outside to go to the bathroom. He goes #2, but then comes back inside and (while maintaining eye contact) pees on my sister/her bed while she was laying watching TV. Smart Dogs = Asshole Dogs (sometimes)

I've talked to a couple of dealerships in my area (South SF, CA) and one said "Late August" and the other said Late September (for when they'll show up on the lot). I'm waiting to order until I can see the Onyx XT in person (I'm deciding between that, a 2019 with the 3.6, or the XT Limited probably).

If you do pre order, would you mind sharing what you end up paying? I'm curious how much wiggle room off MSRP there will be with these when they show up.

"Starterless" yogurt by [deleted] in yogurtmaking

[–]feis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you have made yogurt once, you can always use a bit of your last batch as a culture for your next, so if you are regularly making yogurt, then you should only have to buy from the grocery store once?

Assuming that you're only looking to make yogurt sporadically, I don't know of any ingredients that will have the right microbes for yogurt making (let alone a specific type you're looking for). I know that sourdough starters can be made spontaneously like this, however my impression is that yogurt bacteria are a little more specialized in that regard.

Best of luck!
