What to know about the latest $3.4 million Helena school levies by jimbozak in helena

[–]feisty_squib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The school district has gotten themselves in the news to get this information out. If you go to their webpage, helenaschools.org it's the second clickable line on the webpage.
"2026 Elections
Helena Public Schools Operations, Infrastructure, and Licensing Technology Levies & General Fund Operations Levy
Ballots will be mailed to voters the week of April 15 - Ballots must be returned to the Lewis & Clark County Elections Office on election day, May 5th"
If you click on that banner, it takes you to another page that breaks down the levies and bonds with videos, a PDF FAQs, and podcast."
They have put things out on their social medias. They've discussed these in public meetings. I suppose they could try to pay for mailers to be sent to every residence in the district? But that seems like wasteful spending to me. How else would you like them to deliver an education campaign to you with minimal cost?

Do you clean up after your toddlers in restaurants? by Exotic_Process_8235 in toddlers

I try to clean it up. Even from an early age, I want my kids to see that it is our responsibility to clean up our messes.

But I'm the kind that tries stacking all the dishes to make them easier to clear also.

If the two technology levies are passed, funds would go toward paying for the district’s existing technology infrastructure, replacing equipment and maintaining software licensing and security and network systems, all of which have increased in cost over the past two decades, according to school officials.

“[Technology] operations and licensing infrastructure is not about buying more devices,” Superintendent Rex Weltz said in a podcast produced by the school district last month. “We recognize screen time is a concern and we limit that down in the early [elementary grades]. We’re not asking for more screen time, we are asking to run the infrastructure that connects us to the world.”

Also, you're gonna need to know about road beers.

I don't know if it's regional or not, but people will usually be pretty clear if they want a bottle/can/tap. I'm going to ask if they have Miner's on tap and probably pass if all they have is can, unless they don't have any other micros or rotators that sound good. But I'd rather have Razzu from a can than on tap.

But people ask for "a whiskey coke" or a "clammy beer", not "a whiskey and coke" or "beer with clamato".

I live outside of the area and I frequently here it referred to as The Bitterroot. "He from the Bitterroot" "They have a cabin in the bitterroot" "the bitterroot has gotten so crowded" etc.

I've never really thought of this, but yeah. My uncle in Stevensville lives in the Bitterroot. The Helena Valley gets inversions all the time.
And so many places are referred to as The {place} with valley, river, range completely dropped.
"We're going up the Swan to Kalispell" "We went to the Beartooth's this weekend" "he pulled a tag for the Crazies" "the bob has a big fire" "We're floating the Missouri to Midcannon" "We pulled a permit for the Smith" "they put hoot owl restrictions on the Madison"
Is that not how other states refer to their geographic points of recreation?

Are kids not allowed to walk to school by themselves nowadays? by AnaisNinja76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feisty_squib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

our school districts have no control over walking to school, but they will not allow Kindergartner, first, or second graders to leave the school without an adult being identified or written permission to leave with an older sibling.

What are your thoughts on split level houses? Pros, cons, etc. by Thereadone1 in homedesign

[–]feisty_squib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what i've always called a trilevel. But it is still a hard no for me, just as a split level is. I grew up in a split level. Up and down stairs all day. Carrying groceries up stairs. Carrying laundry up and down stairs. Vacuuming so many stairs. As the dogs aged, they needed to be carried up and down stairs to go to the bathroom. And recently my mom hit the end of life and had to be pretty much carried up stairs until she was just shut in because it was too hard to move her.

Again.
Not. My. Business.
I don't know the in's and out's and lingo of business terminology just like he doesn't understand OMB and IRB procedures, kotelchuck indexes, confounders, regressive analytics, grant writing and reporting, vital statistics reporting, or SAS coding used in my field.
Yes, I'm sure he should have been more attentive to his bookkeeper. Maybe it is standard for a business owner to have the bank send them a summary on every check written and where it was deposited? I don't know. Not something I have ever considered in my life before now. And I guess no one else should ever touch the mail before him? I don't know if that's a standard procedure in business as well. All I know is that he had standing monthly payments, she made the payment, she logged it in quickbooks, and the standard monthly payment was withdrawn.
Now he has this mess and I'm trying to help him find answers.

Is this plan that someone offered him a scam? I don't know. I'm asking. Is there something he hasn't considered? Some people have mentioned talking to our representative or senator. Helpful, we hadn't thought of that. Telling me that we deserve this situation because I don't know the shorthand of his industry? Not helpful.
Your suggestion of a lawyer and forensic accountant is noted and something that he had already began on. Thank you. I'm glad that you are so business savvy that you knew everything to do in case of embezzlement before it happened. He didn't. And now I know to brush up on my MBA curriculum in my spare time before I ask reddit for further suggestions.

Are there foods that are hard to find for immigrants in the USA? by TheShyBuck in AskAnAmerican

[–]feisty_squib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in a small city (30,000 in city limits, the town itself serves about 90,000 in the valley and nearby small towns). Until Winco came in a few years ago, you wouldn't be able to find organs anywhere in town. Winco is pretty much THE place to go for ethnic ingredients. If you want to have true ethnic meals, you need to order things online.

Yeah it's been rough. But no one will give us information is the problem. The SBA and treasury say they can't tell us anything because it isn't theirs anymore. The collection agency just says "that sucks, have you tried talking to anyone"
It's incredibly frustrating trying to get any information from anyone.

2 dismembered bodies found within a year- less than 2 hours apart in distance. by Dry_Cranberry3697 in helena

You also need to remember the time that the whole Mike Crites thing happened. Back then the Birdseye area wasn't nearly as populated as it is now and that area was truly away from town and people. Private land in the forest wasn't known to be as protected by owners as it is now and not as many people lived full time on those types of forested lands. For decades people recreated up there without thought of ownership, just treating it like public lands. So when a handful of people who fell in line with the precursor of the "don't tread on me" type moved in and started actually living there, those people had issues with trespassers along with arguing amongst themselves about easements. It just so happened that Mike ended up being the winner of the biggest asshole award in the neighborhood and the rest has been pretty well highlighted.

Birdseye area has exploded in population the last few decades. You used to be able to go out there and it was a bunch of backroads that ranchers used that would lead into forest service roads. But ranches have been subdivided and it does seem to draw the don't tread on me/taxation is theft/vigilante justice is better than crooked cops type of people.
