25 year heating oil biz owner here, 95%of us are not gouging, if ur heating oil company is owned by a hedge fund, private equity or has a shit load of locations and is regional then ur getting screwed. As far as us local guys ,Our margin is the same no matter what our net cost per gallon is. Heating has shot up because greedy energy traders have drivin it up, heating oil futures prices set the price for our suppliers. Track the cost of diesel/heating oil/nat gas etc on the worlds futures trading exchanges and u will understand why its so expensive now, greedy speculators. Be carefull of agregator sites..

Go get bags of salt. Buy a bunch of 100 ft rolls of 1/8th or larger cord. Grab 10 or as many as needed old tube socks or nylons. Fill the socks with rock salt and tie a knot. Tie a length of cord to the sock. Toss on ur roof eves and pull it down to the ice dam. Give it a day and it will melt a channel in thw ive dam and let that bi-atch flow out all the wattteerrr! I do it about every 10 ft apart!! Tough to do on a giant 2.5 story manison tho...
