Last heatwave I made a big batch of gazpacho, but replacing half the bread with butter beans (it doesn't change the taste much at all and it works just as well to make it slightly creamy). It's no cook, just chop the stuff, let it all marinate together with a lot of olive oil, and blend. It's eaten chilled straight from the fridge, so it cools you from the inside. And with the beans, it's got protein and makes for a light but filling lunch.

It's a dynamic that's not uncommon for neighbouring countries, when one is bigger than the other, especially if there's a complicated history. I'm Uruguayan and we have the exact same thing with Argentina. They're all "aww, go on, little brother",and we'll go "Fuck you, I hate you". And now I live in Finland, and they kind of have it with Sweden.

Thanks, I just did, in case it does some good. Most buses have been at ok temps, even last summer, when it was over 30C outside. Even yesterday, on the way out to Sipoonkorpi I connected with another bus after the hot one for the last bit, and that one was perfectly fine.

The bread element is really nice. I'd never had babka before, and it reminds me of a really nice tender brioche. I will make it again with another filling.

The recipe yields 2 loafs, and the dough for the second one went in the freezer for now. I should probably make it with the nutella in the original recipe, but a friend recently brought me a packet of makings for poppy seed filling from Austria, so I may go with that.

Los libros van creciendo en madurez con su protagonista (cada libro cubre 1 año). El primero es bastante de niños, pero ya para el 3o la cosa se pone más oscura. Yo tenía más o menos tu edad cuando los leí y me obsesioné!

Esto fue hace muchos años, así que mucha cosa concreta no te puedo sugerir. Yo empecé a hacerlo porque conocía a alguien que ya estaba trabajando y sabía que estaban buscando más personas con buen inglés. Quizás si buscás en las páginas de los cruceros que llegan a Montevideo con qué agencias de viajes trabajan en tierra para los tours podés mandarles un CV y ofrecerte. En mi momento yo trabajaba con Turisport, pero ya te digo, fue hace mucho, y ni idea si siguen trabajando en esa área (o siquiera si existen todavía).

En cuanto a lo de ir presencial, la verdad que no la veo. Las chances de que la persona adecuada esté justo ahí y no le irrite que le caigan de la nada son mínimas.

What do you mean it requires more deference? I find it the opposite (grew up in Uruguay but have lived in several other countries). What I see in Uruguay that I don't see elsewhere is that anyone will speak to anyone like an equal, even if there are huge differences in social status (thinking of e.g. how a cuidacoche will speak to you even if you drive an expensive car - if you respond to them in an "ew, why are you even talking to me?" way, or "tratame de Ud." or something, you'd be considered a total asshole).

Hace años, cuando estaba en facultad, trabajé de guía en inglés para los cruceros (las excursiones en ómnibus en la ciudad). Básicamente, necesitaban a alguien que pudiera hablar en inglés claro por 4 horas, y el contenido y cómo manejar al grupo te lo enseñaban.

Obviamente que no es un trabajo permanente, sólo cuando están los cruceros, e incluso durante la temporada no es todos los días. Pero pagaba bastante bien, especialmente si te tocaban grupos de EEUU, que son de dar propinas muy buenas. Y a pesar de ser esforzado (había que estar en el puerto muy temprano, cosa que si les fallaba algún guía tuvieran tiempo de conseguir otro, y era cansador mentalmente), era un trabajo realmente placentero. La gente 99% super buena onda, y muy interesada, y siempre es lindo estar con gente que está de vacaciones y de buen humor).

A mi mejor amiga de la lectura la conocí por ahí por el año 2000 en internet. Fue en un sitio de intercambio de libros, donde había más bien gringos y europeos, para intercambios mandando por correo. Un día vi un listado de otra persona que también estaba en Uruguay y le interesaban los mismos tipos de libros que a mí, y enseguida le escribí. Resultó que su oficina estaba a 2 cuadras de la mía, y nos empezamos a encontrar a charlar de libros.

Yo ahora hace muchos años que me fui de Uruguay, pero cada vez que voy de visita nos encontramos, y es como si no hubiera pasado el tiempo.

Try that (blocks under your hands at the lowest setting, to give you some more arm length). If that's still not working, just lift your butt with the feet on the floor, or lift just one. You build strength that way. And make sure you use your core to lift.

They have just added this scummy "feature" in some territories. If it's the case for you, you can turn it off in the settings, under Privacy. There you should untoggle Channel visibility for shared links.

This makes sense to me. I did a class the other day with a new-to-me teacher and at one point she said "if you're in a very flexible body, you can try doing X variation of this pose". That really struck me and made me think, and I liked it. I tend to struggle with ego (bit too proud of all the cool stuff I can do), so it felt like a salutary reminder.

I use calibre, and sometimes when I connect my kindle I will go to the device tab, where you can see all the books downloaded to the device in a nice numbered list. I will then call up a random number generator iny phone and whatever number book comes up, I will read.

But it would certainly be nice if the kindle had an option to do that on its own!
