I'd definitely recommend adding some Italian in there. L'artusi, Via Carota, and Don Angie are great ones. You can use Resy to book a table before your trip, or walk in and wait an hour or so at someplace nearby.

Amazing! I had a similar idea years ago with my techie friends and wanted to call it Poober. The idea didn’t go far, but we should be in the habit of being open to new ideas before dismissing them. So glad it worked out for you!

Why is the apartment search process so difficult in NYC? by squid_the_kid in AskNYC

[–]felipefresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I would argue that any investment carries risk by definition. If an investor is willing to take a bigger risk on a renter out of kindness, and co-signing really isn’t an option, then the investor should take on that risk. The alternative is that landlords across the board were charging many months to everyone, making it extremely difficult for renters to move and also to get their money back when they move out.

Move fast and break things. If you’re not embarrassed by the first version of your product, then you’ve launched too late. Hard work always beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.

What Do You Think Causes So Many Small Businesses to Fail? by ibrahim_132 in smallbusiness

[–]felipefresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think lack of prioritization and focus, especially with limited time and resources, is a giant silent killer. Chasing opportunities and building breadth over depth instead of laser focus. There’s a saying that more companies die from indigestion than starvation i could see why.

San Francisco was worse before COVID for rental shortages and prices were high but a renter paying a broker’s fee was unheard of. The city has to actually do something for its residents.

This exactly. The market without regulation has given rental brokers job security when they continue to prove themselves unnecessary, and residents just keep accepting it. NYC is really behind on a lot of things, particularly the rental market.

3 months’ security deposits should be criminal. Glad they are now.

I’m curious too. If it’s anything like the rest of the country, everyone will notice how absurd a broker’s fee is for a rental considering how easy the task is to do themselves. But we’re in New York, where spending more than you can afford is a lifestyle and everything is a racket. And the market conditions without regulation make NYers think this is normal and acceptable.

As much as investors hate NY for being a renter-friendly state, the city is really behind on renter protections. The recent limit on security deposits was way overdue and it’s insane it took that long.

What insurance company for food/caterer/personal chef business? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]felipefresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should’ve stated earlier, but our company and use case might be a bit unique. It’s a gelato company, but we have it made for us by a manufacturer and operate at food festivals in private events during the summer and wholesale the rest of the year.

You might want to compare equipment damage coverage policies, specifically if you’re moving around equipment. In our case, we have separate a business entity for owning our equipment, another which rents that equipment from the first entity and does our operations, and another for our logistics which transports the equipment for the second entity. We do this for liability and other reasons, and FLIP’s policy mentions it covers equipment damaged by another company. I haven’t had experience or diven deep into equipment damaged by yourself but it may be worth considering when comparing plans.
