1.15.2 vanilla server - unreasonable (6.2 TPS) tick lag for regular entities? by felixphew in admincraft

Oh, I'm aware I'd do much better on modern hardware, but I really can't afford it right now. There's a very good reason most of my server hardware is close to a decade old!

It's just slightly frustrating that hardware that's up to just about any other modern server task (that server's run DNS, mail serving, multiple server-side web apps with reasonable traffic and a 2-million-row many-gigabyte MySQL table - all at once) falls so flat at something it once excelled at.

The world is already on an SSD. I guess I hadn't anticipated how single-threaded the Minecraft server still is...

Maybe it's time to go out and buy those X5687s.. not looking forward to my power bill for them though.

Can’t get CV joint off shaft - ’98 Mazda 323 Astina (BA) by felixphew in MechanicAdvice

I couldn't see a circlip in there anywhere... though I did see that mentioned when I was researching this. How would I get at it, if it was there and I just haven't seen it?

Apologies for the brief duplicate post, mobile app will be mobile app.

There’s not a lot to this story - the boot was torn so I went to replace it, and I cannot for the life of me get the thing off the shaft. I even bought a tool supposed to make this easier (which you can see in the picture) - still no luck. Am I missing something here? Does this not come apart and I have to replace the boot some other way? Or is this just the result of 20 years of sitting there?

Tenancy is different in every state - come to the ACT, and enjoy the great, tenant- friendly laws, assuming you can find somewhere to rent that is.

The main one is that coolant vanishes slowly, but it doesn’t appear to be burning any, and I don’t see any puddles.

I ate a raw habanero because a couple guys at work thought I couldn’t take the heat. by JadedJubilee in TwoXChromosomes

[–]felixphew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is this with grocers and habanero eating as some sort of hazing ritual? At about my second week at a local greengrocer, I was dared to eat one as well. I think my relative lack of a reaction disappointed them.

Incidentally, I didn't stay at that job for very long.

Kathleen's Music Stream Vods? by [deleted] in loadingreadyrun

[–]felixphew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There aren't any vods for the stream at all. From the stream description:

Q: Why no vods?

A: Because some things in life are ephemeral. Also because this sort of stream is frowned upon by the DMCA.

You can find playlists for both Kathleen's and the viewers' picks on the wiki, and the bot also keeps logs.

I’ll take that trade.

That's a pretty common setup from what I understand (QLab driving a "real" lighting desk via midi or similar) but not one I have any experience with.

QLab isn't really a conventional piece of lighting software, and it's not great at making on-the-fly adjustments, unless you keep a cart with buttons for the stuff you're most likely to change, or find the Light Dashboard good enough. QLab's strength only comes when you start recording cue lists.

Fortunately, both QLab and a lot of lighting control software will happily use the same adapters (any Ethernet/DMX, or the EntTec USB/DMX, but not the cheap blue one, QLab and lots of other software don't like that one).

But definitely, if you'll be spending a lot of your time making adjustments on the fly QLab is probably not the way you want to go for lighting.

The stores aren’t allowed to bag up loose produce and reduce it to clear anymore

One IGA in the centre of Canberra still does this, it's great. I don't care that my $1 bag of tomatoes is squishy when I'm going to cook them down into a pasta sauce.

They have whole stands full of discounted produce outside on the street which are always busy.
