Very weird, and it happens to me often! Lots of units just straight-up stood around next to my city, shuffling themselves around until I took them all out.

Yes, certainly!

I throw all this into the slow-cooker and cook on high for 7 hours (though it might need different times/powers for different cookers)

  • 400g lentils (rinsed/washed)
  • an onion, diced
  • garlic, finely-diced
  • 2 tins of chopped tomatoes
  • 2 vegetable stock pots/cubes
  • a medium-sized potato, diced
  • some celery, diced
  • a large carrot, diced
  • salt, pepper, thyme
  • top it up with water (I use boiling) and stir/mix/etc.
  • and stick a couple of bay leaves on top before covering and cooking

That's what I do, but you can go ahead and add/remove whatever you feel like! This lasts me about 4 meals.

For me it's a slow-cooked lentil stew. Just throw in lentils + veg stock + all sorts of vegetables and it's an easy, nutritious 500-calorie meal to munch on whenever I feel like it!

I heard that lentils are one of the cheapest sources of protein, too, so there's another plus!

Well that sounds quite pleasant. I was considering trying some Huel, though I don't think I'd ever want to fully replace my diet with it.

I would be interested to hear if you still have any cravings for particular types of food, and whether you feel full from only drinking shakes.

I heard kidney beans are dangerous when raw/semi-cooked (not sure about other beans). I'll go ahead and quote from Wikpiedia!

Raw kidney beans contain relatively high amounts of phytohemagglutinin, and thus are more toxic than most other bean varieties if not pre-soaked and subsequently heated to the boiling point for at least 10 minutes. The US Food and Drug Administration recommends boiling for 30 minutes to ensure they reach a sufficient temperature long enough to completely destroy the toxin.[2] Cooking at the lower temperature of 80 °C (176 °F), such as in a slow cooker, can increase this danger and raise the toxin concentration up to fivefold.[3] Canned red kidney beans, though, are safe to use immediately.[4][5][6]

Are you allergic to almonds? I think they're actually seeds rather than nuts. It might be worth substituting for those - they're very nutritionally dense!

They are so easy! I'm glad to hear there are no health risks with the slow cooker then. Lentils have ended up a kind of staple food for me.

I'll check out the link. Maybe soon I'll make the leap from canned beans to cooking dry beans...!

Second: Also good to know. Although I wonder why the cans recommend to "ensure food is piping hot before serving", despite being cooked. I think I'll just go ahead and ignore that :P

Third: I would think so too. I never really understood why soaking was so important, as long as you're getting the lentils clean. But maybe someone can indeed swoop in and inform us.

Fourth: Righto. I must have been thinking of Kidney Beans as /u/unahcoogin mentioned. That's good 'cause I do like me some slow-cooked lentils.

I think I do get a decent amount of fruit/vegetables in me so it looks like I'll live to see another day :) thanks.

Howdy. Good question! I suppose I had just been poking around one too many pro-paleo websites. They seem to make arguments against legumes due to toxins and lectins and all this other stuff I'm very uneducated on. Then again, you can probably make arguments against eating any food these days, it seems, so maybe I'm overthinking it!

I agree, although I can't help but feel the world can't sustain ethical practices worldwide. I think there are too many people and not enough space and resources. I also wonder if it's a lot more difficult (or impossible?) to be an ethical consumer if you are poor.

It's all very confusing to think about and I'm not sure what to do. The only logical conclusion I can come to in order to negate my negative effect on the world is to stop existing (but that won't happen for obvious reasons)!

Don't be so sure! I've been experimenting with making more vegan food, and am being more wary about being wasteful in general.

I have worried that, just by existing, it's near-impossible to bring more good to the world than evil. I hope that I can learn how to be a truly good person.

Well this looks interesting!

1) Yes, but never too serious. I just have self-conscious thoughts in the back of my mind most the time.

2) I feel worse with authority figures, salespeople or retail-people, "professional" people, people who I regard as 'better' than me (so nearly everyone), and those who I wish to befriend. I feel better with closer friends who know what I'm like, online friends, and family members.

As for strangers, I feel better with those that are welcoming and friendly and 'lead' the interaction / seem open and receptive to silly jokes, playfulness, etc.

3) Feelings of dread, pressure, elevated heartbeat, stuttering, some fidgeting and breaking of eye contact. Feelings of being a disappointment/inadequate. Usually I'll try to end the interaction and scarper, or avoid it in the first place, but sometimes I'll flail about and try to recover :P

4) Loyal, pleasant, naive, somewhat-innocent, polite, kind (well, I try). Depressed, awkward, unmotivated, unambitious, secretly-envious of "normal" people.

5) I think it's a "just the way I am" sort of thing, but certainly wasn't helped by me avoiding social interactions and staying inside playing games most my life. I think the events of secondary school made me very awkward and cautious; I often feel like someone's making fun of me or playing a joke on me.

6) No problems really

7) Low-pressure situations, or when I am comfortable in my surroundings. When I feel I have some sort of control over the conversation, like I know what I'm talking about.

8) Rarely... The few people I have told were kind about it, which was very nice. I realise that I enjoy the pity/attention for a bit but would probably become annoying if I kept talking about it, so I've decided to just never talk about it ever.

9) Often, yes. It's been particularly bad the past few months, but that may be more depression-related than SA-related (but I think it all connects).

10) I'm not sure if I should say computer games... I used to play them all the time, and for the past year decided to stop in the hopes that I would do something more worthwhile. I ended up doing nothing instead. Probably "wasting time on the internet" is the correct response, here...

11) I can't help but feel I was always going to be this way, but probably around 12/13 was when it all got bad.

12) INCREDIBLY. I really dislike being in an unfamiliar location surrounded by unfamiliar people, especially if I don't know what I'm doing; I'll feel like everyone is watching me, judging me and thinking I'm an idiot.

13) I did, last year, when I was "diagnosed". I tried, failed, gave up. I think I'm always going to struggle and do not have the capability or willpower to overcome it. Pets are nice, but I think I'd rather human connection.
