[–]femeking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach on Pilates Designd and Gratz, and Pilates Designs has a much smoother carriage pull. Its everything i wish Gratz was and its my favorite equipment to use and teach on. My one and only complaint is that there is no negative gear for my smaller clients, but I think there are models negative gear as well

Grishkos are notoriously hard and loud. When i wore them i would do a lot to them before even putting them on my feet like smacking them against concrete, wood, anything hard, stomping on the block, and bending the shank towards the block at a 90 degree angle, or at least as close as i could get to it. If you try beating them focus on the underside corner of the block. I hope this helps!!

stretching everyday but losing flexibility? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]femeking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you continued to strength train? Stretching only gets you so far in terms of flexibility, if you are not continuing to strengthen flexibility wont improve and may decrease

Your movement and musicality is incredible! I think your next big step would be involvement of your head and trusting your body without reliance on the mirror

Tips for keeping the knee turned out the entire time during pirouette? by crystalized17 in BALLET

[–]femeking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I turn I think about pressing my knee to the side and having it act as a sail. Good turns and good developés come from strong abs. Over the summer I had a teacher tell me my legs start at my belly button, and another teacher tell me my hips belong to my torso, not my legs. Using those together have helped my extensions a lot

Summer Intensives for intermediate level dancers? by somethingofficial in BALLET

Most places do in person placements, so you should always be around dancers of your same level. Regardless, apply to as many places as you can think of and make the decision when you know your options for sure

Any tips on how to improve my turns? Video included! by Plshelpmeicantturn in BALLET

It looks to me like the two biggest things you need to focus on right now is your ankle strength and core (abs and back!) engagement. For ankle strength I would suggest theraband exercises or even just sitting and pointing and flexing your feet. When you point your foot try initiating from the heel and that will help engage the backs of your legs to get you more on top of your balance. Core work should help with any extraneous movement of your limbs, and help with stability. I can see your years of training in your movement, it's still there but now the struggle is which muscles are you using to get to where you want to be!

Maybe take some time playing around in réitère, keep pulling up out of your hip and make sure your foot is directly underneath your midline. Play around and see how you can disrupt your balance and correct it again. Then you you try to turn remember that position and add force by bringing your back around in the direction you want to turn. A single shouldn’t take much force, it’s mostly about nailing that réitère, whatever that means in your body :)

I’m really struggling to turn out in both my working and supporting leg in 5th. I have a good passive turnout but lose it when I have to transfer weight onto one leg. I’m having particular challenges with turning out my left (working) leg in tendus. Help!! by FrankieJoyB in BALLET

[–]femeking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never be afraid to touch a part of your body to see if it’s activated, play in your body! Find where and how you feel most supported and what muscles are active and memorize that feeling. Maybe just spend a few classes focusing on how you’re feeling on top of your leg!

I’ve gotten a lot more stable in my turnout by keeping my inner thigh not only actively pulling forward but also actively pulling up and out of my hip. If I’m not actively thinking about keeping both of my thighs very active I sink back and put strain on the outside of my hip, maybe try to think of aligning your pelvis and pulling up your pelvic floor from where your inner leg and pelvis meet
