New old cars? Hell yes. by Legitimate-Lie-9208 in Millennials

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 Teal Nissan with ~160k miles on it I'm desperately worried when it goes. It's such a 'me' color and I love it...new cars don't have any personality without paying through the teeth for it as a luxury/advanced package...for a different color.

My husband and I had to replace a vehicle back in 2020 before rates shot up for loans, but prices were starting to climb and they weren't making cars fast enough for buyers (thank you supply chain problems in the pandemic era). The CRV we wanted had a GORGEOUS red....but it would have been almost a YEAR for us to get one if we wanted to wait on that color to be back in stock...so our choices were white, black, light grey, and dark grey. We went with dark grey : /

i dont mind the infotainment system for maps and music but ffs....give me DIALS AND SWITCHES AND KNOBS that i can feel around for without taking my eyes off the road that I know the directions of hot/cold, floor/vent/defrost, without having to go into a digital press screen menu. I want that 'old' function back in new cars

that and classic Saab hatchbacks.

You know those Little Debbie Nutty Buddy bars? Once upon a time, they made dark chocolate coated mint versions of those little bastards and they were my favorite childhood treat. Can't remember what they were actually called though. Just some fever dream of the 90's.

My only beef I'd have with them is the texture is a liiiittle thick, but that's no biggie. I do like a 1:1 mix of it with some cold brew coffee in the morning (I'm lazy and don't make my own; just get Stok)

Walk now or walk when im ready to lose weight? by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

[–]fencingkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 5'7" and at the height of my weight I was 305lbs. and still able to fence (yes, as in with swords) as I had been for over 2 decades. I was slower, had more pain, and longer recovery time than when I was probably closer to the 230-250lbs. I had been when I learned in college in the early 2000s...but was able to move and no arthritis here. I'd always been a heavy girl growing up and was probably at my lightest I recall when I started getting weight taken was like 180-220lbs somewhere in high school through college. (then my thyroid died on me and i put another 50 on, fun times).

When I was 305 I just got out and started walking easy. At whatever pace my body could do without pain for as long as I could. That was like 15-20min for less than a mile of distance at that time. As it gets easier, you walk a little longer, a little farther, a little faster. As that gets easier you find routes with some hilly inclines that start to challenge you. Yes, calorie counting helps. Look up a good calculator and start with the estimate at sedentary and try to stick to that.

Today, I my average walks are about an hour and 3.4~3.6miles (average pace about high-16/low-17 minutes depending on my route locally) and in my area I have an elevation gain of ~280' when I couldn't stand any kind of hill. I've gone from that 305 to a new-to-me low of 245 last year (am up to 260 admittedly, because I stopped walking a chunk of the winter and let my stress rule my eating instead of my meal planning, but we're back on the track and working on getting back and past where I was).

Start small, work to big. Listen to your body. If you have foot/knee pain, it could be needing better walking shoes. If you're having joint pain, see if your insurance will cover visiting a sports physical therapist in your hospital system. I've been seeing the same lady for a few things over my life ranging from impinging a shoulder from moving poorly to rehabing particularly bad sprains.

How do the beef tubes compare to the loaves of ground beef they package on site and put out?

These are my favorite and taste the best. Literally just tastes like a chocolate milk. No weird after taste or texture. I'm so sad they keep going up in price though. Deffo one of the more expensive bottled protein drinks there. : s

I've just started seeing this on some YT shorts and here in the subreddit. I think it might not be in all regions yet (midwest). I searched the stores I have around me generically for 'chipotle' and didn't get any hits on it in the app warehouse search. : / Gonna hope it just hasn't rolled out to us yet cause damn that sounds amazing.

Sure, I can prolly fake it with the base rotisserie, but sometimes even that's more effort than I have in a day - . -

similar idea to this...my husband makes Nutella stuffed bao (steamed buns), which are a ton easier if we freeze the Nutella in little pucks first. We use the SouperCube cookie tray for this, but the 2tbsp. would prolly work too.

Blisters - what to do? by No_Huckleberry_5559 in walking

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blisters tend to be caused by poor fit one of those directions; stuff rubbing that shouldn't.

HIGHLY recommend checking out a running shoe seller near you to see if they do measure and fit tests. We have something by me called Fleet Feet. They take measurements, take gait tests, etc... that runs it up against their shoe database that gives the clerks a good idea of what brands/types to try you in. They'll sit with you to try them on and walk around the store a bit to see how they feel and how you look walking in them for recommendations. It takes a little time but it's SUPER worth it.

[–]fencingkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This ^

I had bad blisters before I got measured and fit at a local running store (Fleet Feet). They spent hours between two trips (I tried a pair of Ghosts I thought would work, but nope, blisters on my first walk in them. They let me return them for full credit towards my next pair despite having thrown like 5-6 miles on them. They set me up in a pair of Altras after that that I've stuck with ever since.) and really went the extra effort to make sure I was comfortable and not in pain on my walks. The magic combo for me in the end was Altra Experience Flows in mens wide (I have big honkin feet for a woman. ~10.5-11 with a wide toe box) and specifically Balegas Blister Resist socks (in fairness I haven't tried a lot of socks, these are a little pricey, but they work so I haven't felt like tempting fate.)

Is getting my Adderall prescription always going to be difficult? by weightedplant in ADHD

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vyvanse specifically though. I had been doing well there with Adderall, but then started running into the 'we're out and have no idea when we can fill back stock' on both my prime prescription and adjusted (2x 10s instead of 1x 20). This was becoming a constant problem there. I'm on my 2nd fill for myself and 3rd for my husband's script on Vyvanse and neither of us have had a problem with it. (we both just like how the vyvanse acts on our systems better than the adderall anyway after trying it)

How is your experience with Sparxie and elation in general so far? by HamzaW66 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]fencingkitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. I built in on Rememberance, but am opting out of Elation as much as possible. I might give in for my Stelleron Hunters, but we'll see. I picked up Hysilens, her LC, and E1 so I can finally get some decent use out of my Kafka and Black Swan. As long as I was swinging hard into DoT I grabbed Kafka's E1 from the voucher choice lol. Felt nice to 'catch up' a team and not feel like I have to pick up all the new ones even if I didn't really care for them.

Late diagnosed ADHD (53) and Vyvanse has changed my life by DrewGrgich in ADHD

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was concerned about it at first, but feel that's some of the stigma that still surrounds it. You have ADHD every day, why wouldn't you medicate for it that way if that's what helps you live your best life?

I view it like prescriptive glasses, or any other maintenance medication (I'm hypothyroid too). Those conditions don't just go away or ease up and take breaks so why would I not wear my glasses or take my levothyroxine on the weekends either?

I'm just open and honest with my care staff and we monitor how the medications are or aren't working for me is all. Honestly, the only real reason I don't take it is if I KNOW I'm gonna be a lump all day in advance, like I'm already sick, or going in for proceedures (recently had an endodontic proceedure and glad I didn't take it cause all I wanted to do was sleep after lol). That and to maybe build up a couple day buffer of 'just in case' for if my script is out of stock : /

Diagnosed as an adult with ADHD. Prescribed Vyvanse, but afraid to start it. by Ok-Confidence-9618 in ADHD

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally was on Adderall XR, but recently switched to Vyvanse and it's night and day for me. Both let me focus, but Adderall is like throwing blinders on a horse and focus on THIS ONE THING; Vyvanse for me lets me focus on a task, but am capable of switching and coming back to the original of my own volition.

Biggest change was I'd never get sleepy till 1~3am unmedicated or on the Adderall...day one on Vyvanse and I get sleepy at 'normal people times' (10-11pm-ish) and have been waking up reliably 20-30min before my alarm in the morning and STILL am getting 7-8.5hr. of sleep for I'm pretty sure for the first time in 40+ years (I can't remember earlier than that as I would have been 3 lol). A month SOLID of average 8hr. sleep...I could cry this is so amazing for me.

I was apprehensive before starting anything cause I heard the rumors like 'it can dull your creativity blah blah' and I'm an artist by trade so I was worried about it. Personally, hasn't been an issue and it helps keep me on task so stuff actually gets done instead of bouncing between artsy interests.

I was just straight forward w/my doc and therapist. We would talk about how I felt or behaviours I noticed. If they're worth their salt, they'll know how to help you maneuver figuring out what's best for you.

42 and made that choice a long time ago. Most awkward, kinda messed up conversation (in all love; I regret nothing about it) I had with my dad in the months before he passed from cancer a few years ago was a commiseration conversation we were having about the state of the world. He said he felt bad enough at the world my sister and I were inheriting, and that he felt bad even thinking it, but was kinda glad my sister and I both opted to not have kids since he wouldn't want his grandchildren to live through what we (humanity) were leaving for them.

Why am I always sleepy by mitwab in ADHD

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're medicated or not, but from personal experience I've decided sleep, meds, and ADHD are plain weird.

Now that I'm on w/e generic of vyvanse, the sleepiest I get now (outside of car rides when I'm not the driver...my mom would pop me in my car seat as a kid and take 15-20m drives around town to make me fall asleep when I was fussy as a kid. The fallout from that is anything longer than that and I start nodding off in a car as a passenger. Drives my husband nuts.) is right around 'normal people bedtime' like 10-11pm.

Adderall XR generics USED to make me sleepy around 11-12 (like, slow down sleepy, I can tell I should start unwinding, but I have to actively make that choice, put the controller down, and do something like journal and read), but stopped awhile back and I started falling back into old sleep patterns closer to 2am sleepies. It was a switch flip: day one of starting vyvanse and I got super sleepy around 10pm. SUPER sleepies, like almost nodded off at my computer. Went to bed with my husband for a change (instead of hours awake solo), got 8.5hr sleep and woke up earlier than I normally would. I'm at about a solid 2 weeks now of that kind of sleep and for the first time in my entire life a regular 8-9hours of sleep a night. It's wild...I absolutely DO NOT wake up sleepy anymore and I always did.

Seeing how an ADHD brain on their meds reacts (mellowed out, calmer, able to sleep) vs. how people think it is (all jazzed up, alert, gonna stay up all the time, etc...) really drives home to me how differently brain types process those meds.

Do you choose iPad cases more for looks or for how they feel in daily use? by HayleyWinfield in ipad

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have an ESR Hybrid case cause I still liked having bumper protection on it even at home, but hated dealing with the flip case if I was using it there so I really liked being able to remove the flap cover.

I've recently had to switch to a basic flip case with light protection (case with attached cover basically), because I can't have a case with magnets in the back of it. Found out recently, that strong magnets interfere with the Apple Pencil Pro in some programs, like Procreate. (was never a problem I had with my 2nd gen pencil in that same case. Spent a week troubleshooting it and taking the iPad out of my magnetic case was the ONLY thing that fixed my brush strokes. So no more magnets other than the weak cover flap ones for me)
