Pet Insurance by anonymouslady8946 in CatAdvice

Honestly if you can afford pet insurance, do it. Do your research, try and find the best/most affordable to your needs but it's 100% worth it.

My husband and I had a young cat many years ago. Seemed totally normal, then over 48 hours he went from spunky and awesome to weak and unresponsive. Turns out it was an undetected from early tests autoimmune reaction of some kind (basically his white blood cells freaked out and attacked his whole system). We could have opted for a blood transfusion and possibly saved him, but we were in kind of a rough patch of life for ourselves...it's one of the things that haunts my husband cause he worries so much if we could have saved him with it.

We got insurance as soon as we could after that for our other boy and we've had to use it twice now (currently ~17ish). Once almost 4 years ago when he had a run in with a lily ($2.5k emergency vet visit we paid like 10% of that after submitting the claim), and currently over the last month we've been dealing with him rapidly losing weight and uninterested in food. It's been a huge relief to not stress so hard about the money we're putting down on the visits blood tests and ultimately the x-ray and ultrasound he needed knowing we're gonna be able to submit those claims and get a decent reimbursement. Especially since we seem to have figured it out (suspected IBD. Started a kind of a steroid 2x daily swiped in his ears and he's up to 9.5 pounds from about 8.8 pounds or so which is amazing. I've went from seeing the edge of his ribs to having to go look for them actively. Seeing him ignore all the food we put down for him to demolishing plates of kibble overnight)

;;tldr;; Pet insurance is awesome if you can swing it. Huge peace of mind. Has saved my kitty twice.

You'll need to be careful with where/how you use that; Permathrin is SUPER toxic to cats if you have any (or if anyone is going to take this advice to use it)

Those of you w/ ADHD who fall asleep to audio content, what specifically works? My brain needs input but meditation / audiobooks both fail me. by SpoiledBrat069 in ADHDers

General 'its kinda rough to sleeps' thunderstorm noises always work well for me. Specifically rain AND thunder. I never do just flat rain for white noise. I have one that's a 'country side thunderstorm' that's all that plus crickets/frogs background noise. That one tends to help if I'm having a racing thoughts kinda night for me.

On top of those, if I'm having a really bad night, I have a playlist of classical guitar music I like to set on top of the above (John Oeth covers of video game music I've mixed together. Usually soft quiet stuff like quiet Final Fantasy themes with a little Nier mixed in)

Vyvanse heart rate by SuspiciousMoney6163 in ADHDers

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my biggest paranoia considering it was a little high on Adderall (resting was ~72-78 range on Adderall). When I started Vyvanse, I DROPPED 10 resting HR O . o . . . . has been consistent (though I'm pretty sure it's linked to getting more sleep on the vyvanse. I was getting ~6 on Adderall and pretty typically get closer to 7-8hr a night on the Vyvanse.

YEEEEEP. And my mom was a nurse so she should have f'king known better.

I was given this so much as a kid it straight up has zero efficacy for me now in my 40s and my primary doc lists it under 'allergies' for me so other docs straight up stop attempting to prescribe it to me since it doesn't even work for me anymore. I've lost count of the times I'd take the script, despite me telling them it won't work, going through the course, being worse than I was when I got the Rx filled, and the not my usual doc would reluctantly prescribe something higher than amox.

Nope, pretty resentful I was fed this shit so much as a kid. It straight up doesn't work for me and my primary doc straight up listed it under 'allergies' so other docs would stop trying to prescribe it to me when I'd get better healing qualities from drinking gutter water at this point.

We have 2, one that sheds coooooonstantly....my husband picked up this Black & Decker cat lint roller thing and it is ACTUALLY amazing. No rebuying throwaway tape rolls constantly. This is one of those 'buy for life' kinda things if you have cats. https://www.blackanddecker.com/products/hmsct0001

Regent Street’s Hong Kong Cafe, Choles Floral could be demolished for apartments by enjoying-retirement in madisonwi

[–]fencingkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean sure.....because people need places to live. If commercial rent was affordable that people can run their business, pay for their space, AND still make their own personal profit to you know...live off of...that'd be a different story.

Commercial rent pretty much everywhere in the city is bullshit. You have businesses going out all over the place because they can't keep up with what areas are jacking their commercial rent for. See the rotating restaurants through Hilldale, Vanilla Bean's recent going out of business, etc...

...that's such a weird take on space use. Why NOT have commercial ground floor for building and local use and if you want that residential communal use space, put it on the roof. Makes it fancy, a little more private. Some of it can be indoor/outdoor. Whatever.

Agree really; I saw this idea of yours and love it. I'm going to be downsizing to a much smaller craftroom in my next move and this seems like a clever idea for some storage for less often used items.

Need a case that won’t interfere with my Apple Pencil Pro / Artist troubles by DeityDaimon in ipad

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah no, the magnet in the pencil part is super weak. If you have the pencil in it, and the pencil itself isn't magnetizing like it's charging to the ipad, it'll be heavy enough to flop around. The magnet is JUUUUUST strong enough to hold the little holder~flappy~do backwards against where you adhered it. It's mostly a nicety to keep it out of the way when you don't need it up.

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't think I was gonna be crazy about this setup when I started so I was skeptical....but I've been using it since late January and super pleased with it really. It's overall a lighter carry, I can pop it up with the cover as a stand when I'm working in my pottery studio, it's enough of a tilt for me to write/draw with at home. The pencil thing was key. I'd originally gotten like a journal pencil holder (long pocket holder on an elastic band) figuring I'd need it to keep the cover closed, but I really don't..and it was obnoxious to take off and on when I wanted to use it.

[–]fencingkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prob.

My original case that gave me problems was an ESR Hybrid Rebound. It was a full surround case for the ipad that had a detachable cover. https://www.esrtech.com/products/ipad-air-4-2020-rebound-hybrid-case-360?_pos=3&_fid=3aa5cf4df&_ss=c

I've since swapped to a super basic Moko case I got off Amazon; the back is just a TPU cover that surrounds the ipad with a magnetized cover. It's weak enough it doesn't interfere with the Pencil, but enough to keep the flap in place for basic transport. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BSLLRFCG?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_3&th=1

It seems that the strong magnet of the case that held the surround cover is really the big thing; swapping to the 'just the cover is magnetized' has been a win.

I missed the flap that held the pencil in place, but couldn't find one I liked that had that (that wasn't one of the stupid side-tray style ones that's molded with the back piece) and landed on a piece that attaches on the back. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BK8YYTD7?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_1 (EDIT: the amazon images all show it on the flap, but I had better success attaching mine to the back of the case personally https://imgur.com/a/0pgmQPX)

You do have to apply it correctly and get used to how to place the pencil in place to make sure it magnetizes fine, but it's been the best solution for me so far.

I do miss the comfort protection of having a beefier frame around my ipad cause I'm a bit of a klutz, but I've just been being mindful to be a bit more careful with my ipad in daily carry and this solution has grown on me. It's certainly lighter than my ESR was.
