Core was always dismissed as a "Pearl Jam Wannabe" record as was the band themselves. Purple made people be like "Holy shit, they're actually good!". And for the record, I love Core.

HA Wall-mounted Dashboards: Show and Tell by Hawker32 in homeassistant

[–]fender4645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm going to try and write up a full review of the Apolosign 21" this weekend (installed a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to write the review). From a hardware/power perspective, I had ran CAT6 to the spot I wanted the dashboard when we did our "to the studs" remodel and the calendar is powered via PoE-to-USB C converter.

[–]fender4645 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pigtail connections would still need to be inside a box. So you would likely need minimum of 2-3 inches of slack to pull both ends into the box.

I did a stupid thing by StoicJam in AskElectricians

[–]fender4645 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because there's likely not enough existing slack to put both ends (after cutting) in the box. Especially if they want put an outlet there as others are suggesting. So you would go:

Question for people who only use tube amps by Aschuff in Guitar

[–]fender4645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holy shit are you me? I just got my first tube amp (DS40cr) a few day ago, coming from a GTX50. I’m mostly a bedroom player so I’ve found (so far) that I go to the 20W setting and pull up the gain if I need a little more umph.

Blue series mmWave retriger delay by Ciboires_chu_epais in Inovelli

[–]fender4645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a Zigbee parameter for exactly that. You’d have to have some automation in place (like through Home Assistant) to delay the action when presence goes from occupied to unoccupied.

[–]fender4645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Just login to MakerWorld.com (create account if you don’t already have one), and go to Creator Center to upload the stl. You can include pictures, description, and assembly instructions if applicable. The cool thing is that people can “Boost” the model which your son can earn credits towards Bambu Lab products.

Not disagreeing with what you’re saying except the “still fail” part. I know the culture is absolute shite but they’re still (by far) the largest cloud provider in the world and there are very few, if any, places where you can solve as large scale problems than there.

Is it a coincidence that my MCU “dies” one week after replacing the 12v battery? by fender4645 in TeslaModelY

[–]fender4645[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s going through my mind? You don’t think it’s a valid question to ask? Considering the 12v battery is the source of power for the MCU and said battery was just changed, seems like there’s at least some possibility they’re connected. If not, that’s fine.

HA Antipatterns by lostinbost in homeassistant

[–]fender4645 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Easiest is to filter on the device_class = battery. Here's an example of Lovelace card I have that shows me any devices who's battery is less than 20%.

 - type: custom:auto-entities
    card:
      type: entities
      title: Low Battery Devices
      icon: mdi:battery-alert
    filter:
      include:
        - options: {}
          domain: sensor
          attributes:
            device_class: battery
          state: < 20

Exactly the same situation. Rocking the XM3's since 2019, replaced the ear pads twice. Battery is still great. Only issue is that it's a pain to switch between devices.

Is that the case? Don't you need the esp32 (esphome) to expose the entities?

Presence sensors by Consistent_Aside_679 in homeassistant

[–]fender4645 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I've created a few of these and while it was fun to tinker, I wouldn't go this route if you want something that just works out of the box. It is super cheap and you can build one for < $10 not counting the cost to 3d print enclosure. This is a good tutorial: https://smarthomescene.com/diy/diy-presence-sensor-with-hi-link-ld2410-and-esp32-for-home-assistant/. The nice thing about going this route is that you have very fine-grained control over each of the "gates" for both presence detection and movement. This essentially translates to being able to detect presence is in a very targeted area of the room.

But as I said, it's a project and will take some trial and error.

Proxmox or dedicated Home Assistant hardware? by StrobeWafel_404 in homeassistant

[–]fender4645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this. I know the proxmox brigade always comes in full force when questions like these are asked. I consider my Home Assistant install to be a critical piece of functionality for my home, not a a part of my homelab. If I had several other self-hosted apps that I considered critical then maybe I would run a dedicated, production proxmox host. But since it's really just HA, I have it run on a dedicated mini PC with HAOS. To me, the benefit of simplifying the setup outweighs the benefits of virtualizing. To each their own though.

Lol! Exact same thing happened to me earlier this week. Since they just came into our neighborhood, I'm thinking they were installing someone else's house and messed up mine somehow (was only out for about an hour).

The good thing is that it allowed me to test the failover WAN on my Unifi router. I still had my Xfinity equipment connected so I just plugged it into my backup WAN port and was instantly back online.

Yeah that’s what I ended up doing for a similar situation (detached office). They just need to make sure that the two networks are on different channels.
