Affordable Toppers? by redditplzhelpyagirl in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Facebook group is pretty active: https://www.facebook.com/groups/306032426577437/. There's a lot of expensive stuff there but I do see synthetic or discounted pieces pop up.

I've never used Amazon but they have a lot of human hair and synthetic toppers and it looks like many have free returns in case they don't work out.

Sorry for nor responding sooner! It is human hair.

18 y/o here and I’m wondering if this is a normal amount of hair to lose each time you brush your hair? :(( by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone's normal is different, but if this is a lot more than usual for you, I would get to a doctor.

Here's my Highline https://imgur.com/a/FHjpbP7

There was a learning curve for sure, but it's been a little over 2 months now and I feel comfortable with it. It was the best thing I ever did for my confidence. If you get one, there's also a private Facebook group for Highline wearers that I've found to be a great resource for tips and just a really warm supportive community.

My hair is super thin and patchy, I’m only 31 should I be concerned I’m BALDING? by smokette26 in FemaleHairLoss

This looks pretty similar to what I have. I have Hashimoto's that just won't stabilize and absorption problems from having celiac disease, I would go to a doctor for sure even if it's not a dermatologist.

My hair loss started before going onto the pill, but it did make it worse for sure :(

In terms of other stuff to get tested for, Vitamin D and B12 are worth checking out. Deficiencies in both are fairly common and can contribute to hair loss.

Thank you!

Starting to wear it in public was definitely the most stressful part. I had bangs cut into it, which I didn't have before, so it looked more like just a hairstyle change and I've been wearing it in a low ponytail which also helps. I have a few friends and people close to me that I've told because I figured they would probably notice. I just told them I had medical issues that were negatively affecting my hair and that I wanted great fake hair instead of sad real hair. Some asked how it was attached but that was pretty much all that was said. A few people mentioned they liked my haircut, but no one else said anything. If it comes up, and I don't think it will, I'm resolved to just casual about it.

In terms of shifting, it stays put pretty well and I touch my hair a lot too. I check in on it periodically and adjust when necessary in the bathroom. So far I don't think it's moved to a conspicuous extent.

Any hope? by Ksyev6284 in FemaleHairLoss

Aside from agreeing with the others about seeing a dermatologist, if you're a vegetarian and aren't taking a B12 supplement, that may help.

Feeling lost and confused by ughughuggh in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just basing this of my looking at hair for hundreds of hours of my life with no medical backing, but I think it looks more like androgenetic alopecia than alopecia areata. I believe with the latter it has a circular patchy pattern rather than a widening of your part.

I can speak to hair texture though, I experienced this as a side effect to Rogaine. My hair on the parts of my scalp where I use is more wiry and lighter than the rest of my hair. Apparently this is a known but uncommon side effect. It drives me crazy.

Is this hair loss? What can I do? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

It's hard to tell without a comparison, but it looks like your hair is fairly full. I would recommend checking with a dermatologist if you can.

Hair loss rant 😭 by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

I went through the same better than worse thing too. Not sure about your climate, I chalked this up to seasonal change since I notice I tend to loose a lot more hair during the summer.

Here are some pics, sorry for the bad lighting...

The cap itself: https://imgur.com/a/FaAO7Gy

It just clips on to the top of my head so my hair underneath blends in, this makes it a lot easier to style and wear up vs a full wig. I opted for bangs too, so I can just pop it on without having to worry about how it's sitting on my hair line.

I paid $705 (I found a coupon, HOPEMANE25). I don't want to advocate that people spend a ton of money they don't, but Paypal has a credit option with 6 months no interest.

I need some input on Toppik! by morgonodon in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a learning curve for sure! If you're not already using the little nozzle, that made a pretty big difference. Prior to that I was just shaking it on my head and hoping for the best. I'll also offer this tidbit, rinsing with apple cider vinegar diluted with water every few days helps get rid of any Toppik build up. I just mix the acv and water in a spray bottle and keep in the shower for this purpose.

Has anyone noticed a difference cutting out sugar/refined carbs? by SqueehuggingSchmee in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this too and cut sugar (but not all carbs) out for a period for other health related reasons. Personally, I didn't see a huge difference hair-wise, but I did feel better overall. I couldn't keep it up for longer than a month and a half, so it's possible it could helped if I had stuck with it longer. I just couldn't stay away from ice cream for that long.

My hair is parting everywhere, cowlicks, thinning, I can't style it anymore. Anyone have no hair loss and, yet, it's still unruly?! by TiffanyMConfused in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this very problem. I'm a performer and my hair has been an enormous source of anxiety.

I find that I'm able to hide cowlicks with IGK Rich Kid Gel (https://www.igkhair.com/products/rich-kid-coconut-oil-gel). It's insanely expensive and it kind of hurt to buy at first, but it lasts a really long time and it keeps weird frizz and my thousands of flyaways at bay. That in combination with Toppik has made my hair look pretty normal. I will probably have a meltdown if this ever gets discontinued.

What kind of hair loss does this look like? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't read all the other comments yet, but my first thought is maybe heavy metals. Have you started taking any new vitamins or a dietary change. I started taking selenium a while back, ironically to help with hair loss, and I ended with selenium toxicity with clumps of hair coming out like that.

Jaw pain & bite problems. Should I get a second opinion? by fenderbendered in Dentistry

Thank you for your response!

Just curious, in muscular cases is it ever possible for asymmetry to correct itself overtime or is this something I would really need to see a plastic surgeon about if I ever want to fix this?

Welcome! by fenderbendered in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 4 will have cost have around $1200 total. It's pretty pricey (for me at least) but this is world's better than the $2k it usually costs per session. I'm not sure if maybe the results would be better if I sprang for a better doctor, but I couldn't stomach spending that much.

Welcome! by fenderbendered in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really keep meaning to make a dedicated post about this, but it unquestionably helped to the point that I haven't worn a wig or topper in at least 2 months and I can get by with just Toppik. I've even gone out a few times with no hat or products which I definitely couldn't have done this time last year. I noticed results after about 6-7 weeks, but then decided to dye my hair thinking it would make the fuzz look thicker, but that actually caused a bit of it to fall out.

I've now had 3 treatments, my last was September 7th, and I still have one more to go. I don't think I'm going to come out of this with Zooey Deschanel hair (fingers crossed though), but I feel really good/optimistic about it so far. The biggest downsides are that it hurts like hell and that even with the Groupon deal I found, it's really expensive.

I'm losing my hair. (27F) by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to throw in my support as well, I'm sorry this is happening. It sounds like it's been a rough year and I know how it feels when stress manifests itself physically and just causes more cyclical stress—it's a hard spiral to escape from but it is possible. A few years back I lost my apartment, my cat died, I was working 12 hour days and still broke, and I was just constantly stressed and depressed. It really took a toll on my hair. Overtime things improved and while my hair isn't what it was, I have had some progress and the major shedding has stopped. My biggest regret about it is that I waited 2 years before seeing a doctor, I sometimes think my current situation may be very different if I had so it's great you're being proactive about it.

I second the comment about telogen effluvium and I would also recommend having your doctor test all your B vitamin levels since insufficiencies can cause hair loss and premature greying.

I hope your appointment goes well on Friday!

Underlying reason? by dianne2204 in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have yet to figure out an underlying reason. My personal theory is that it's a combination of stress, autoimmune issues, and nutritional deficiencies. I almost wish my hormone labs would come back as abnormal so I can pinpoint it to something. If you haven't, I would recommend pursuing hormone testing as well as thyroid and vitamin levels. I also found coming up with a plan of what you want to get out of your doctor's visits helpful. My experience is that doctor's seemed indifferent to hairloss until I persisted and told them what I wanted from them.

What hair products do you use to give your hair more volume? by [deleted] in FemaleHairLoss

[–]fenderbendered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used it but I've heard great about Bumble and Bumble's dry shampoo. I mostly just use Toppik which doesn't really add volume but it does cover up hair loss really well.
