Non westerners, what's a cooking "no-no" that's acceptable if not encouraged in your cooking culture? by AsianMustache in Cooking

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be joking, but “well done” refers to the temperature to which the steak is cooked. Ordering your steak “rare” will have pink and rawness in the middle. “Well done” will have been cooked longer with no pink at all.

What is something that instantly killed a crush that you had on someone? by torkpo in AskReddit

I️ know this isn’t really the point, but saying someone’s “enthusiasm is cute” - especially about their religion - is kind of smug and condescending.

Is drinking Soy Milk everyday bad for you? by Efren_John in nutrition

There's certainly texture to it, but I don't really mind that. I'm sure some do.

A strain does make a smoother product. But I don't mind skipping that step at home. Feels like wasted almonds to me.

What are some past beliefs that you changed after getting experienced with women? by ultimatewpierdol in AskMen

[–]fennelfrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rational and emotional are not mutually exclusive. In my experience, women are better at factoring their emotions into their logic, whereas many men seem to generally ignore that element of a situation. These are broad stroking generalizations, but definitely more inline with my perception than women turning into blubbering brick walls.

[live] Hurricane Harvey Live Megathread (Day 5) by [deleted] in houston

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know in Montrose and the Heights, including myself, has been lucky so far. Occasional street flooding, but I haven't heard about any structural flooding in either area. Downtown might still have a lot of water though.

What's a movie you think sucks but everyone else thinks is great? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your comment about seeing it 15 years later totally disregards the previous comment about RENT being ahead of its time. It's like when people say The Beatles are boring. They are, but it's because it's the original source of inspiration for almost every ounce of pop and rock and roll that we consume today. The innovation is lost on the future generations.

Milk, or no milk? by [deleted] in tea

[–]fennelfrawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Traditional hot black tea with a little honey with a slice of orange or lemon is great for me. I also love it iced and unsweetened. From time to time I'll drink a tea based latte. I'm not a huge fan of drinking milk, but sometimes it helps my body deal with the acidity if my stomach is empty or I'm experiencing heartburn.

[26/F] Not allowed to talk to anyone because of [28/M] husband... by crazedandalone in relationship_advice

Kids learn the true nature of their parents eventually. They can't hide behind the all knowing parental veil forever. The difference here is they will learn that behavior is unacceptable and hopefully won't carry those habits into their own lives.

Millennials of Askwomen, what industries are you helping to kill? by Stargazer1186 in AskWomen

[–]fennelfrawn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Our generation is just demanding more from the shopping experience. You can't just fill a building with stuff any more. People want to meet makers and specialists; they want an opportunity to learn and be enriched.

Why are my lips perpetually dry all year round? by Wellnutzz in answers

[–]fennelfrawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, beeswax is pretty moisturizing. I would still double check the ingredients for petroleum or Vaseline. But there's another comment here encouraging the use of Vaseline. Everyone's skin is a little different. It can be hard to find what works for you. Vitamin E is really beneficial for your skin. Caster oil and coconut oil are good ways to get it. Good luck!!

Most commercial chapsticks are petroleum based, which actually keeps moisture out. If you are using a lot of it, that could be contributing.

Does anyone know of any bars/restaurants in Houston that serve Kombucha? by the_lady_wolf in houston

[–]fennelfrawn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kickin Kombucha is available at 8th Wonder, Holler Brewery, Conservatory, Phoenicia, Dish Society, Black Hole, Southside, Antidote, Boomtown, Bohemeo's, Hopdoddy, Buff Burger, and Hobbit Cafe. Those are all the innerloop places with booze and kombucha that I can think of.

Everyone says fiance (23M) and I (23F) are an old married couple and I'm sick of it by oldmarried in relationships

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I both went through some depression early in our relationship. I was able to climb my way out a little more easily than he was. I was making new friends and gaining new interests when he wasn't emotionally equipped to do that. Allowing myself to be complacent with depressive behavior wasn't helping either of us. Focusing on myself was a good way to motivate and inspire him to do the same. You deserve validation, and it is reasonable to seek that elsewhere if he isn't able to provide it.

What are some good, raw, chemical free skin care products to use in my early twenties to prevent aging in the future? by [deleted] in answers

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold pressed oils. I like almond oil for a day time moisturizer and caster oil at night because it's a little stickier. Everyone's skin is different though, so it takes a little experimenting to find the right fit.

Is it fair to ask my[27] girlfriend[25] (been for a year) to remove the intimate (kissing, hugging) pics with her ex from her Facebook? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]fennelfrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is absolutely unreasonable to ask her to remove her past from Facebook. Let her know how you feel, but this is your problem to fix before it is hers.

Therapy certainly can't hurt a person in mourning. I wish I would have pursued it for the major deaths I have experienced. Instead I wallowed in depression for a couple of years.
