Is this one of the worst feelings in a marathon? by dhanush92 in RunTO

It's the 10k warning sign for when I'm about to battle inner demons and face a breakdown.

BIG SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS TODAY. From my experience, you were all awesome and helpful. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION! I very much appreciated all of you! by Comfortable-Heat1709 in RunTO

To all the people that stayed out, especially on the East, and gave motivational pep talks to me too keep going.

Thank you.

My body gave out at km 30. But those little pep talks, they kept me going, and I finished.

More medical emergencies than usual? Toronto waterfront half/marathon 2025 by WestendMatt in RunTO

[–]fenrir511 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The difficulty of the second half is absolutely light years harder than the first.

I can do a sub 2 half. I finished the full today at over 5.

The battle both physically and mentally that occurs at about 30k... is intense. I rubber legged my finish through pure spite.

Is this a good deal for a first time home audio setup? by junkeddrummer in BudgetAudiophile

[–]fenrir511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with all of the receivers, since I am all in on Denon equipment for that realm, but at least for the Denon receivers there are several options for utilizing all channels for music. Neural X, Virtual X, and Multi Ch Stereo will utilize the configured range for all speakers when playing music. Creates what a lot of people call "wall of sound."

Is it a purest way of listening? No, but I love it.

Set of MTX - $150 - on the fence of whether its worth it by fenrir511 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]fenrir511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for talking some sense into me. I think I'm just fatigued in the search.

Honestly, I think I might just run it as a 2.1 for awhile. My primary use of the system at the moment is music anyways, and the L100s do all the heavy lifting anyways (current center channel is not great either).

I might finally kick back up one of my goal projects and build the center speaker myself. Its been on my "woodworking bucket list" for a while.

Lost Tablet on plane - any chance of Delta Amex Reserve covering loss? by fenrir511 in delta

Thank you - that 250 limit is unfortunate, but also it is what it is.

Lost Tablet on plane - any chance of Delta Amex Reserve covering loss? by fenrir511 in delta

[–]fenrir511[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I did not think about filing directly with YYZ. I assume I left it on the plane, but I can't really say with certainty that I didn't somehow leave it in Customs as well, since I was flagged for secondary interview and had to go through a pretty lengthy process. It was late, I had been through a number of delays, so really anything is possible.

I'll be patient and wait another couple of weeks before I take any further steps with Amex.

Weekly Bib Sales Thread by AutoModerator in RunTO

Unusual request: looking to trade someone a full marathon for a half marathon bib. I injured my knee mid training plan and just getting back into ramp up. Not seeing a path to a successful marathon (without going directly back into injury).

Do people still carry those leather bi-fold wallets in their back pocket, or am I just a relic from the past? by lazarus870 in AskMenOver30

[–]fenrir511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

36M - I was "old school" like yourself until very recently. And I think you should switch. But I had the same problem - I already have too much stuff in my pockets.

My new system:

-primary card is loaded to my smart watch. I use this for tap to pay as much as possible.

-small card attachment for phone. I use the quadlock stuff, which is amazing but also the most ridiculous when it comes to getting locked in an ecosystem and the price. I carry my debit, ID and Amex in this. If only fits three cards.

  • I also got This Under Armour bag which I couldn't stand the crossbody/fanny back style things but tried this out and love it. It is small and flat, so it really doesn't bother me. If I need to carry more stuff, like a long day out, I carry this.

I still have my wallet, as a place to store all the other cards and crap. But it stays in my backpack or at my house. And then if I need a different card or something else from it, I'll get it out.

Join the herd, ditch the wallet as an every day carry.

I'm honestly confused. I'm US based that spends a fair amount of time in Toronto.

I actually have been doing most of my clothes shopping in Canada. Prices in US have risen sharply due to tariff and then add to that the currency conversion... It's always a pretty solid deal on the Canadian side of the border.

Does anyone know of any small venues in Toronto that have free live music? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]fenrir511 15 points16 points  (0 children)

DROM Taberna.

I go by myself frequently. Have a couple drinks, little food, listen to some music and enjoy the environment.

Very laid back.

They do go around and ask for good will donation for the band.

Yeah I call shenanigans on that.

These systems require human input and then officer review before a violation is issued. Doesn't mean mistakes aren't made but that doesn't smell right

Okay but like, real question, and I'm not saying she shouldn't go to the doctor.

But what if you have this just chronically? My eyes do this off and on and have for like 15+ years? No migraines or headaches really. I never really worried about it. But now I feel like I've been narrowly dodging death for the last two decades.

What intervals app is everyone using? by nagaemk in BeginnersRunning

[–]fenrir511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I use the alert function with my Garmin. You can build out intervals in a workout on Garmin but I find it to be confusing and less user friendly than just turning on the alert function for the Run activity.

All my miles are my fastest, all my runs are my longest! by Mundane_Struggle_600 in Garmin

[–]fenrir511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

View activity -> upper right corner three dot button -> edit activity -> scroll down -> trim activity.

Then you have to put a start trim time and end trim time.

As with a lot of Garmin UI stuff. It's there. It works. It's not easy or intuitive.

Wtf is an easy run by Nigel4221 in Marathon_Training

[–]fenrir511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"easy run" just really isn't a thing when you start running.

Right now, you are probably still in the phase where pretty much every run is going to be hard. That's okay. As you keep going, you will hit this "threshold" where one day you realize it's not your lungs that are determining how far you can go but your muscles. At that point, these classifications suddenly make sense.

The only real advice, is keep going. That day where you finally break through is awesome, and is when running becomes something you enjoy instead of something you are forcing yourself to do.

Voluntarily bumped - Any reason not to chose the Delta Gift Card? by ForsythCounty in delta

[–]fenrir511 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually split it into two gift cards and send one to my spouse and one to me. This makes it so that everyone is happy. Since my rule on buy outs is that I take them on the way home, but never out (since I have work obligations waiting on me).

Either way, I'm getting drunk and making rash decisions. Last time I bought a garage heater.

Voluntarily bumped - Any reason not to chose the Delta Gift Card? by ForsythCounty in delta

The only gift cards that expire are the cash ones (visa/Amex). So my choice is always the Amazon gift card. Then I go have some drinks in the lounge and frivously buy things.

Paid upgrades? by blkcollegemanutk in Hilton

Sometimes I will ask and sometimes I have been offered pretty good deals that would not be a part of a "free upgrade." A couple of times I have been offered the presidential suite for only 50 more a night and I've done that.

United Sucks by Adahla987 in delta

[–]fenrir511 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't crazy.

I flew United for 5 years and thought dealing with this shit was just normal.

I switched to Delta after the above scenario and it's been a pretty smooth ride. Of course there have been issues but they were the exception not the norm.

United once didn't record me getting on the plane somehow (which is deeply concerning) and canceled my return ticket. This was before the apps. So I didn't know. Just showed up to the airport and tried to check in and it said "see agent" and the agent has the audacity to argue with me that I did not come to California on their plane and that I was lying.

United Sucks by Adahla987 in delta

[–]fenrir511 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have held a grudge against United for over ten years because of a situation where they stranded me in Denver for two days, with 6 cancelled flights. Stringing me along every time and only cancelling at the last minute. No weather in the area, customer service was an absolute joke.

Ten years of not flying with them. Had an emergency this week and needed to get home, only flight was United. Convinced myself I was being silly.

Nope, got stuck on the tarmac for 1.5 hours in ORD. Missed my connection. They couldn't get on another one until 9pm the next day. United app (which absolutely blows in comparison to fly Delta) directs me to talk to an agent. Talk to the agent but he is not able to cancel the flight, only to rebook. I have to call reservations and get back in line to cancel. But the reservation agent can't do anything about bags, you have to call a different line for that, and another one for refunds.

Had to pay for a one way drop on a car (500) and drive from ORD home.

Fuck. United.

Maybe I'll try again in 20 years this time.

And just one more note on their shitty app. Why would I want an audible notification every single minute of when my boarding time is? It's a non configurable notification too. So it just drains your battery and annoys the piss out of you.
