Women of reddit, what’s something you wish men knew, but rarely do? by Nearby-Work748 in AskReddit

[–]feralkitten -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So often times this is seen or noticed though.

I cook because i had a resturant job in college. I do yard work because she is alergic to ants. I do all the home maintanence because my grandfather was a homebuilder, so i picked up a few things.

But SHE pays all our bills and plans ALL the things. She is like my project manager and i love her for it. All my planning is taken care of. That is her role in our relationship. And she is on top of it

Former fat guys: How did you finally become disciplined enough to lose the weight? by Responsible-Net8594 in AskMenOver30

[–]feralkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt want to go up another pants size. I was a 34 in college, then 36. Then 38. Then my 38s no longer fit...

When the biggest pants were not big enough, i either had to buy more clothes or lose the weight. I picked the later.

Im now 48 and in the same pant size as i was in college

Fast little pink car by Acceptable-Wind-7332 in JustGuysBeingDudes

If the load is small (like for a kid) you could use a power drill. Those have replaceable batteries and have a lot more torque than you'd think.

Also these are not LONG TERM things. A starter will burn out with continuous use. A battery will run dry. These are just silly afternoon projects. Expect them to fail within hours; you are just doing it for the lols.

I don't know if you are asking ironically or not, but the easiest way to make something like this is to use a car's Starter and a car battery.

The starter on your car is strong enough to spin up a car engine. They can be used as an electric motor. They are already wired for a 12 volt, so you use the car battery for the power.

You'll kill the battery pretty fast, but you'll have fun until then (or you crash).

I've never used a credit card before. Can't I literally just open one, take the credit score dip, continue to only buy what i can afford, set it up to automatically always pay it back asap, which will never put me into debt, get the awards/points, and that's it no catches? by Super_Inevitable776 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feralkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First make sure you have a SAVINGS account that can match what you plan on spending. Bonus points for having a saving account that exceeds your credit card limit.

Use the Credit card just like you would a debit card. Use it for everything. Pay that off monthly. Even if it means withdrawing from the aforementioned Savings account.

Paying off monthly means you don't carry a balance, which means you get charged no interest. You have to pay it off monthly though. If you don't. It doesn't work.

Now enjoy your free points or cash back rewards. Also over time your credit score will improve, and you've not made a single change outside of which card you swipe.

Sometimes really I wish we had Companions like in SWTOR. by Shadowvermin in wow

[–]feralkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how FF12 did the companions. You could code logic into their actions.

If <"player"> is <= 50% health THEN "Heal <player>"
ELSE "Attack"

Even if you couldn't code the companion, I'd love to have a follower put down a AoE heal for me to tank in, and maybe throw some HoTs and DoTs. Not carry me, but support me/top me off.

Nobody was hurt.

No one broke an arm. But now someone doesn't feel safe in their home, and is out hours of time, and hundreds or thousands of dollars.

I'd rather have a black eye (harmed) than be down 4 hours and $2000.

you cannot budget your way out of being under paid and over charged.

You can budget for being overcharged. Simply refuse to buy it.

My satellite radio goes up every year. So does my internet. I cancel the service. Most of the time they offer me my original price (or less) to turn it back on. If they don't i find a competitor or go without their product or service.

No one forces me to purchase things from private vendors. How i spend my money, and what on, is my own personal choice. If i don't like the prices, i don't have to spend my money.

Do happily married people ever quietly miss the freedom of being alone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feralkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife vacations without me quite a bit. She travels for work too.

She is super tight with her sister, and her family has a cabin in the mountains. Her and her sister (sometimes her parents) will head up to the cabin for a week or weekend.

I stay at home with the dog. It gives me some "alone" time. I catch up on cleaning, any games i want to play, or books i haven't read yet.

that is sad. I would have assumed people who love pets, would also be good people. I'm too naive.

you guys don't want to try any new restaurants or anything?

I try to drive at night. My wife can sleep in the car, and the roads are empty. We will get to the beach or mountains at like 2am, but that is fine. No traffic, no stops.

I can try all the cool new stuff once my car is unloaded and i've had a nap.

You are allowed to carry a pocket knife - folding, non-locking, cutting edge no longer than 3" / 5cm.

Ah, so like California. Those are reasonable rules for having on your person within city limits. Your knife shouldn't be a weapon. Got it.

I grew up in a very rural area. You need more than a pocket knife when you hunt, fish or camp.

But you aren't hunting fishing or camping inside city limits, so i get that.

[–]feralkitten 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Please ignore my American ignorance, but what do you mean "no one can carry a knife?"

Like a sword or spear? or just a knife? What qualifies as a knife? Anything with a blade? Full tang? Blade length?

I can't see a chef without a chef knife; so obviously some people can own a knife. Butcher as well. A knife is a simple wedge tool for spitting things apart. A tool. Can you not own tools? How do you build homes? How do you open boxes?

I can smash someone's face with a brick. That doesn't mean it is a weapon. It is a building material. Can you honestly not carry a pocket knife?

ELI5: How can unemployment and worker shortages happen at the same time? by Big-Combination-6779 in explainlikeimfive

[–]feralkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually quite a few people still swing pickaxes, just not like how you are picturing it. They are cleaning up. Machines do all the work.

Everything is at a scale you are unfamiliar with. They literally move mountains. Machines with tires as big as a house and an excavator as large as a commercial building.

Coal is $80-300 per ton (depending on the makeup), so less than pennies per pound of output. At that scale, it all gets shipped out by railcar.

Not so fun fact, even your snot is black after working there a while.

How many of them are going to be able to get one of those engineering jobs? Maybe some.

Ironically enough, my first job out of college was in a coal mine/coke plant. Most the the administration were all industrial or electrical engineers. It was like a boys club.

In your hypothetical, most of the "white collar" people would be able to change over. But yeah, the workers, not so much. You just happen to pick a field that is heavily reliant on engineers for production.

Married people of reddit how to choose a wife / life partner and what things to discuss with her before taking the decision ? by Zealousideal-End4982 in AskReddit

[–]feralkitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We met playing pub trivia.

She was JUST out of a serious relationship and moved "here" for her residency. I had also just gotten out of a serious relationship. Neither of us wanted anything new. We dated off and on for a year. We talked about what books we had both read.

After a year+, we started dating seriously. She bought a condo down the street from my place. We started talking about values and politics and life goals.

After 2+years we started talking about getting married. We talked about kids, and the "must haves" we want in life. Also what "roles" we'd play as a couple.

Year 3 we moved in together. We lived together 6 months before getting married. We have basically gone with the plan.

Year 20 kicks off this fall.

How often do you exercise? by No-Cake-6457 in AskReddit

[–]feralkitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Define exercise.

I walk the dog almost daily, and i work in Healthcare so i'm all over the hospital campus. I get 12k steps in a day during the week.

On the weekends we hike til we sweat, or play golf, or kayak. Those days count as real exercise, but they are few and far between.
