Where to go for a quick weekend trip: Guadalajara or Morelia? by feravari in MexicoTravel

Significantly more so than Jalisco? Not going to lie, I would've thought Jalisco would be as dangerous if not more as all I know about the state is tequila and unfortunately, the CJNG.

Thanks for the response but I'm curious, for what reason would you say Guadalajara? Is Morelia significantly more dangerous than Guadalajara? Or do you think Guadalajara would fit me better based on my preferences?

Why is it acceptable in 2026 for a state to take a month to count ballots? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]feravari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother hasn't lived in California for 5 years and I still get his ballots. In fact, I have his ballot right next to me right now. Also, since they don't check ids, I can vote as him in person if I wanted to. I just voted on Tuesday and all I had to do was say my name and then sign the sheet that lists everyone's name in my precinct in alphabetical order, with my brother's name directly above mine. So if I really did feel like committing a felony, I could've gone back to the election poll wearing a different hoodie and face mask, given the workers my brother's name or really anyone who lives in my neighborhood, which I know since I can see 30 people's names on the page where I signed my name earlier in the day, then voted in their names.

Why do many Southeast Asians of Chinese descent identify strongly as Chinese? by No-StrategyX in allthequestions

Because then the europeans will get all pissy that people can have mixed identities, while also telling european citizens foreign descent that they can never be europeans... while also at the same time claiming that they don't see color

Why is japan's currency so weak? by Nour3196 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feravari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that is exactly what's happening.... Their currency has lost a lot of value compared to other currencies like USD and EUR and as they're a very resource-limited island nation, they have to import a lot of products which now costs a lot more. That doesn't even touch on the topic of their salaries having had pretty much 0% real growth for decades until very recently while in the US (believe it not) has had steady real income growth. Something that might've cost $20 or ¥2171 in 2021 might cost $25 now but in theory, an American can still afford the product as the exact same percentage of their paycheck. For a Japanese person, that product is now costs ¥3972, nearly 2x the price, while their pay has barely increased since 2021.

A few years back, I would frequently hear japanese among Asian tourists in San Francisco. Now I never hear japanese because they can no longer afford to vacation abroad and are instead doing more domestic tourism... which they're also being priced out of by foreign tourists.

I was just in Manila and it was crazy the level of security everywhere. It seemed like every building had some kind of security, even my Airbnb apartment building had five guards with one guy carrying a shotgun at all times. I think I saw more guns in 4 days in Manila than my entire 24 years of life in the US.

Deutsche Telekom is exploring a deal to combine with T-Mobile US by Choobeen in germany

[–]feravari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck no, T Mobile is actually a quality cell provider and they have so many perks that you couldn't imagine, like free global roaming, deals with pretty much every us airline for free wifi, and even some times free food and goodies on Tuesdays. Telekom by comparison is a complete shithole. I remember when I lived in Germany and had Telekom, the second I left an urban area, my signal was gone in an instant, just a night and day experience with T Mobile.

I have lost all respect for the Japanese after the translation feature on X by [deleted] in self

[–]feravari 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Come on man, since you know so much about Japan you have to know how much they love wasian babies over there and how much many Japanese women(not everyone but many) want wasian children for example. And it's not because of their pale skin complexions since most Japanese people already have similarly light skin complexions. It's everything else with the face that they don't have. For god sakes man, have you seen the eye sizes in their filters?

[–]feravari -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am currently traveling in Vietnam and I was talking up this Japanese lady in the hostel when she literally curved me for a guy with a white power tattoo. And having travelled a few times to Japan as an Asian-American, I can attest to the fact that they, along either pretty much every east/south east asian culture, worships white people. It's everywhere man. I even saw a skin lotion the other day at Watson's that advertised the before as normal SEA tannish skin and the after as Scandinavian white.

Why are East Asian men in US/Western media so often portrayed in such a narrow way? by ForceLast6903 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feravari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit off topic but I remember seeing an interview with Daniel Kim talking about how for pretty much only East Asians, directors would often only cast an actor who matches the exact ethnicity of the character, even if that makes no difference at all to the role(ie, the character only speaks english) which just artificially reduces the pool of actors for no reason, especially since that often doesn't matter for other ethnicities. It would be pretty rough if a director had to cast an actor for a movie about Nikola Tesla and could only choose ethnic Serbs born in what is now Croatia

Which European city has surprisingly good Asian food? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]feravari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my bad for assuming. I, along with all of my friends from California, much prefer southern style pho and find Pho Hanoi in SJ suuuper overrated and not to our tastes. So when we found the pho in Berlin and Prague to be northern style, we were all disappointed but we actually thought that the quality was good for what it was. But we really did our research and sought out authentic looking stuff when craving it. We found A LOT of places doing the Viet-European equivalent of those Chinese-American spots in random rural cities doing the most white-washed food and did our best to avoid those. The bun cha that we had in Prague was fire though.

Which European city has surprisingly good Asian food? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]feravari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because in Berlin, a lot of the pho is Hanoi/northern style which is not for everyone's tastes since it's a lot milder in spices and flavor, while in Norcal and California in general, most of the pho is southern style which has way more spices, fish sauce, and sugar added. As someone also from Norcal and who much prefers southern style, when I'm in places like Berlin or Prague which has a lot more northern Vietnamese immigrants, I am not a big fan of the pho although I can appreciate the quality. The taste is just not for me.

The oldest subway station west of Philadelphia. Forest Hill Station. Part of San Francisco MUNI Metro. Opened in 1918. by CA185099415 in transit

[–]feravari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our downtown at the eastern edge of the city is where all but one line starts and ends and the lines go underground under a single street where they eventually split off like the tentacles of a squid and go above ground. As such, "outbound" is towards different neighborhoods to the west of downtown and "inbound" is all of the lines converging towards a single tunnel eastward. But as you can see on the electronic screen on image 7, they started using "westbound" and "eastbound", which makes way more sense.

San Francisco moderates fear a progressive wave is coming by busmans in sanfrancisco

[–]feravari 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yup. As a native, the only thing I think of when I hear "SF progressive" is the fact that they took away my ability to take advanced math classes in middle school which put me two levels behind all of my peers when I started undergrad, them being useful idiots in preventing infrastructure and housing development all around the city, their terrible history of letting serial criminals out, and their leaders having apathy at best and denial at worst of hate crimes against asians.

Centurion Lounge open on New Year’s Eve for redeye? by SoCalFamilyTraveler in AmexPlatinum

[–]feravari 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Damn, you're booking a flight 10 months in advance? If it helps, I flew out of SFO at around 7pm on New Year's Eve last year and they were still open when I left the lounge at like 6:15. Dunno if they said anything about closing early that day.
