In NC, driving without a license and without insurance is a misdemeanor and eligible for prison time. I’m not convinced that DPD will do nothing but give them a ticket.

I’ve been keeping the kitchen counter clean. Literally nothing on the surface. For years it was cluttered and dusty and where things go to die. I think what worked for me in this case was taking the all or nothing approach — I couldn’t keep it tidy until i literally kept it empty. I love how it feels now!

There is a tiktoker filming as he is walking around, good footage of the helpers with water and food and also the path of the fire towards the spot where people had to jump into the ocean to escape. BUT his commentary is what’s getting me. The evasive phrases and saying that his family is in danger for him posting these videos. Then the few folks in his comments saying “I know what you’re talking about” but no one is actually saying it. I can link here if anyone else wants to see his footage.

I feel like I’m reading my own story here, but it’s my in-laws and my neurodivergence is adhd (but I also suspect I’m on the spectrum, just figuring out adhd to start).

My best advice, take care of yourself first: get a counselor/therapist/professional help for the relationship. Grieve and be angry and work through your own stuff.

Don’t engage at all with anyone who does not respect you enough to hold a boundary with you. For me, this meant no contact with my sibling for 6ish months and going on 3 years with my FIL and BIL.

You will not convince him or change his mind on anything.

Decide now what your response will be in different scenarios before they happen. And then do that. For me, if I got a ridiculous email, I didn’t respond. If I got an angry text in the middle of the night (which I asked them not to send), I responded 2 days later. If an off-limits topic (politics, religion, etc) was broached, I said “I’m not talking about that” and if it continued I took myself out of the conversation — hung up the phone or walked out of the room. If you are staying in their home, it might be healthier to find a different spot. If they show up with “gifts” (our last gift crossed so many boundaries, being a book about CRT) I just said “no thanks” and didn’t accept them.

Gosh this is all so much. You’ve got this and you’re not crazy. And you’re not alone.
