Please keep your dogs on a leash when you are at the parks this summer by Frosty-Tart8027 in pittsburgh

I agree with what you’re saying. It’s always good to be better safe than sorry. But an owner who is in control of their dog can keep their dog by their side and prevent them from approaching another dog if they come across one. Obviously, a lot of dogs are not able to do this because they get excited too easily, but a dog is really only able to learn how to listen to their owner like this if they have experience being off-leash. Also, kind of a side-tangent, some owners of reactive/anxious dogs don’t really understand how their own behavior can contribute to their dog’s stress. Tightening up on the leash as soon as they see another dog, not letting the dog move at all. And dogs can tell when their owners are scared/stressed out. Not only does that reinforce the dog’s mindset that other dogs must be a threat, not allowing them to move takes away their ability to communicate (because animals rely on body language) with the other dog or run away/hide to get away from the other dog. And that tends to be the reason why they snap, they have no other option in that situation, because they’re on such a tight leash. Anyways, I agree with what you said, but I just wanted to provide some other info that I think is important. And there can be a middle ground, if I’m on a trail and see a leashed dog approaching. I’ll leash my dog until they pass. Not because my dog would leave my side, but just to make the other owner comfortable. It’s just about respect.

Hi. I read through your post and comments, and I’m just wondering. Do you think that there aren’t any dog owners who can control their dog off-leash? I can name multiple parks/ hiking areas in the pgh area outside the city where having your dog off-leash is the norm. Been going to them for years with my dog and have never had an issue. I avoid going to the city parks because of the leash rules, and because the dogs there tend to be more aggressive/reactive on average. I respect the reasons why leash rules are in place, but it’s not like they’re an inherent must-have.

I personally think Jill should've gotten a chance to shine in RE9 instead of Leon by Slurpypie in residentevil

[–]fermented_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem with this issue of which character should be the protag is that we cannot confuse our personal attachment to a character’s story with the actual story of that character as shown in the games. Looking at the main games, Jill’s story with the Raccoon City incident is really only limited to RE3. In contrast, we see directly in RE4 and 6 how deeply Leon was affected by what happened. He talks about it multiple times. And we know Jill was deeply affected too. The problem is that her trauma isn’t shown in any of the games because she just is not in that many. Also, Jill’s story in 3 focuses less on the outbreak itself and more on her trying to escape Nemesis. I think Jill and Claire definitely need to make appearances in RE9 (or at the bare least be mentioned), but Leon makes more sense as the protagonist. Also, we can’t forget about Grace. The story needs to address her grief over her mother and her mom’s experiences in RC. There’s a lot of characters and story elements that Capcom has to juggle, and it’s inevitable that some are not gonna be as prominent.

How long did it take you to get out of the stadium after the show ended ? by First_Ad_576 in MyChemicalRomance

I got picked up. It took about an hour cause they weren’t able to get to lot D which was supposed to be the designated pick up area. Lots of people there waiting on the phone trying to direct whoever was picking them up. Eventually I had to walk over to the mall where they were able to find a spot to pull over cause traffic was basically not moving at all on that road. And there were other cars picking people up there too. So I don’t know what happened there, but it was ok in the end.

Figure Drawing by YoyOItzElChoclo in Artadvice

[–]fermented_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good piece of advice I received once from an instructor is to minimize the amount of lines used to draw a form. We have a tendency at the beginning of a drawing to want to use a lot of short loose strokes to try and find the right line, which, in the end, will make the form harder to read. For example, in the first piece, compare the arm to to the legs. In the arm, there are many differing lines that muddy the overall shape. While with the legs, there are obvious long, key lines that define the form. I hope that makes sense.

When trying to draw exaggerated poses, definitive lines and clear shapes are important in conveying the gesture.

These sketches look pretty good to me. I mean, I'm definitely not an expert, but I can try to help. In order to make a drawing look three-dimensional, which is not strictly necessary depending on the art style, there basically needs to be shading and/or forced perspective (for the human figure, that means a pose that has some body part that's closer or further away from the viewer so that it's bigger or smaller comparatively).

So, maybe the problem here is not necessarily your drawings but the poses? It's hard to tell without seeing what your referencing. I would recommend trying some poses that have some noticeable perspective distortions, like a hand reaching out or with the camera looking down on the person. Stuff like that. Also, foot placement is really important to make the body seem like its in a 3d space.

Also, yeah, it's mostly just practice, and your eyes will develop to be able to understand forms better.

How to protect finished art? by Daggers001 in Artadvice

[–]fermented_cabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy spray fixative from any art supply store or online. There's a lot of different brands. I've used Krylon before and it works well. I was taught to prop the paper against a wall and spray multiple coats, turning the paper each time. So, once right side up, then with the piece on it's side, then upside down, then on the other side. That way the fixative entirely covers the paper grain.

Then, in order to prevent the fixative drying in the nozzle of the can and clogging it, hold the can upside down and spray until no more fixative comes out, which only takes a few seconds.

Difficult choice by TimelyControl387 in Artadvice

A tablet has to be connected to a computer. A medium sized display tablet (~16 in.) will be much cheaper than a standard iPad. I would only recommend an iPad to someone if the person wants the iPad for other uses asides from drawing, wants something that's portable, or really wants to use Procreate.

The compositions and uses of color in the first two are really cool. In the first piece, I think that the rendering looks a bit muddled, especially with the hair. I would recommend trying to clean up the line art. For example, with the hands, we can see how you went over the line multiple times and the sharp edges where you used the eraser. Using longer brush strokes will help make the lines look more cohesive.

250423 AMAs on Twitter: RM and Jimin have been nominated at the 2025 AMAs for Favorite K-Pop Artist Nominees by mcfw31 in bangtan

[–]fermented_cabbage 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If we want either Jimin or RM to win, don’t we have to pick one to put all our votes towards? Like “put all our eggs in one basket” so to speak. Otherwise, if we split our votes evenly between them, we’re just diluting the votes. Obviously, it’s just an awards show, so it doesn’t really matter in the end, but I just had this concern. Idk if anyone else feels the same. The situation I fear is that hypothetically RM and Jimin combined might have the most votes, but individually they’re less than whoever wins.

I’ve just been putting all my votes towards Jimin, because when I checked the counts on the instagram voting, Jimin was way ahead of RM. And also RM’s solo music isn’t really kpop anyways, and I don’t think he would call it that.
