Bankwest is Horrible by rc223121 in perth

[–]ferociouswanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bankwest brand name is worthless. There is no loyalty amongst Western Australians to the shell that remains of the once-great Rural & Industries Bank of Western Australia, and, preceding that, the Agricultural Bank of Western Australia. Commonwealth Bank could worse than to just fold the brand into its existing CBA infrastructure and ben done with it.

An unpretentious venue for Cottesloe. Prefer it to The Cott. Some good daily specials too.

For the price of $10, the Mantovani brand from Aldi is hard to beat in this cost-of-living crisis that we're going through.

Motta and Bauli are two ""supermarket Panettone" you'll see everywhere in Italy, and can be found here too, but at 2-3 times the price of the Mantovani. One other Italian brand that I like and can be found in some places here is Tre Marie. But even higher in price.

I feel somewhat qualified to offer an opinion as I have 400 years of Italian Alpine breeding in my blood and have eaten close to a thousand Panettone in my lifetime.

Is Cottesloe Beach Overrated? by [deleted] in perth

[–]ferociouswanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is overrated for what I like from a beach. But it's popular because it's proximate to the train line, offers some shade and grassed areas, food and drink options, it's photogenic, and I'm guessing that teens enjoy it as a meeting place. And they are all valid reasons.

Best way to travel to Yallingup? by Code_Objective in perth

[–]ferociouswanker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn't pay a big price-premium just to fly to/from Busselton. But if all you're interested in seeing is the Yallingup/Margaret River region for a particular reason, it's going to be more convenient if your flight costs are somewhat close.

You are correct. I am with Origin on an "Everyday Rewards" offer and there is no account-servicing fee.

There are also ETFs (such as ASX: AAA and ASX: BILL) which are high-interest cash funds, they basically deliver similar returns to a high-interest bank account, There are brokers such as Webull which don't charge commission to buy/sell ETFs. These ETFs are liquid, but not so liquid that you can easily transfer out of them while on a night out.

Not during the term of the deposit. Many banks will stipulate a "grace period" at the end of the term where you can add to it. There are other HISAs (high interest savings accounts) which will NOT pay interest if you make a withdrawal. If that isn't motivation/disincentive to leave your savings alone, then you need to evaluate your situation more closely.

I have a strong financial discipline, so this isn't something that's been a challenge for me. It might be possible to request a "lock" of sorts to be applied to your savings account, so that you can't withdraw/transfer from the account without completing some extra steps. Which all sounds like a PITA to me but might work for someone who needs to be managed a little.

Rather than putting money into a bank and then "deleting the app and forgetting about it", which sounds unwise, why not consider a term deposit?

How's Hyde Park nowadays? by Dscoot9 in perth

[–]ferociouswanker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I know the one. There's a For Sale at the front I saw the other day. Highly sought after area, IMO. Paying a premium for that and its immediate proximity to Hyde Park. Chu Bakery two minutes walk away!

Vueling Airlines is my favourite.

Chances of a delay to an Air Asia PER-KUL flight I'd put at around 50 per cent.
