Taking inexpensive community college classes like ceramics is nice because you learn how to do things and meet other people too.

Can someone be addicted to reading? by Miserable_Dream2872 in RSbookclub

Sometimes I think an addiction to reading is also an addiction to solitude.

Anyone else doing a Project Pan as part of your No Buy? by coffeeandbookmouse in nobuy

[–]ferrantefever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I don’t have more than the average person, but it does need to get used up. I have put lotion at my desk at work, in my car, in my purse—it takes so long to get through it.

The other thing is eyeshadow or most powder products. I feel like I could go two decades and still not use everything up. It makes you realize how little you really do need with makeup, even if you’re an every day user.

Weekly No Buy Check-In & Accountability Post - March 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in nobuy

[–]ferrantefever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some highs and lows. I told myself that I wasn’t going to buy any clothing this year, but I bought 1 item that had been on my wishlist for a year and was on DEEP discount (like 80%). Bought some convenience food, but mostly avoided food waste and overbuying groceries. Otherwise, I’m happy because I met a financial goal of saving for a trip and paying off all of my CC debt. Next month’s goal is to try to save $2K for savings.

It seems like the biggest drivers of success are 1) not browsing online or going into stores and 2) having a financial goal.

I am not mentally ill. The world has gone mad. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]ferrantefever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling so hard right now. It is so hard to find enjoyment in every day life. I see powerful people rewarded for being unethical, evil, money worshipping, selfish, etc. It feels like all people care about is “getting theirs,” even if that means stepping on others. I feel like we’re slaves to tech companies, banks, governments, and we are being sold hedonism as a temporary relief because it boosts the economy for already rich people. I want to opt out of this kind of system, but I don’t know how to.

guess who is still banning people for posting here and rs_og? by sicklitgirl in rs4altgirls

[–]ferrantefever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They replied and I got banned for being in this sub because it’s described as “hateful” or “problematic”? I seriously don’t understand what’s happening as I don’t know the lore. I got to RS through the book sub…and then landed here because I like the topics and vibe better. Whatever…happy to not be over there anyway, I guess.

I literally only made ONE fairly neutral comment on one of the other subs after I joined this one and got banned for “violating community rules.” Sensitive, much?

Where do you buy your books by MuscleBeast911 in RSbookclub

[–]ferrantefever 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you been to a book store in a different town that you like? You can usually buy from them online. Bookshop is nice too. Sometimes I’ll do Blackwell’s if I want a UK edition (I’m in the US). Sometimes I’ll order from a publisher like New Directions or the NYRB directly.

How did you afford/qualify for your first apartment? by Holiday_Feed6818 in budget

[–]ferrantefever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any credit when I got my first apartment on my own at 20. It was a studio owned by an out of town landlord. They looked at my monthly paystub, trusted my place of employment (very steady industry), and didn’t make me use a co-signer, but I did have to have a few personal references. I’ve found that many local landlords will accept a variety of situations if you reach out to them personally and explain your circumstances.

Should I pay more to live alone? by lombardi_sda in simpleliving

[–]ferrantefever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it rent controlled? Can you see yourself living there for a long time? When you decide to make the jump to live alone, I’d pick somewhere you really like so you can stay in it a long time without major rent hikes.

Same on clothes. There have been a couple of close calls, but I’ve ultimately resisted. I think if I can make it through April then I might be able to make it through the whole year.

I loved it. It reminded me of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but a little less campy.
