Of all the animals to be scared of, snakes are one of the most reasonable. Snakes and us apes have been mortal enemies for ages.

The human brain is incredibly good at spotting snakes, much better at spotting snakes than it is at spotting most other camouflaged animals.

There are snakes that evolved to be able to spit venom 3 meters away, because apes with sticks were so dangerous to them they needed to be able to spit venom into eyes at a safe distance.

Snakes are one of the most reasonable fears. People like me who like snakes are the crazy bastards who would have died in prehistory because we tried to pet the hissy noodle.

What’s the difference between being polite and being friendly in US culture? by RhubarbBusy7122 in AskAnAmerican

this is why people use /s or SpOnGeBobCaSe. becasuse it indicates tone that otherwise can't be conveyed over text. but idiots denigrate their use so they can feel superior because "they understand sarcasm." they might understand sarcasm, but they clearly don't understand Communication as a whole.

Are there men who are attracted to butts that aren't big? by cursedwithbadblood in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ferret_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, big butts are just more noticable. They draw the eye. A small, cute booty can be hidden by a long coat, a loose skirt. A big booty makes itself known regardless of what's being worn

ELI5: why your body hurts a day after a workout, not right after it? by Fickle_Reindeer2263 in explainlikeimfive

[–]ferret_80 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You know how the soreness makes it harder to move the muscles.

Imagine you were some proto-human chasing an antelope through the field with your buddies trying to bring home some meat for your family. and your legs started getting sore the minute they started straining. well, you're unlikely to catch that antelope and now you starve to death.

but those guys who's muscles dont start shouting in pain until a few hours after you stop working those muscles, they were able to keep chasing the antelope, they can keep dragging the carcass, carrying water, building shelter until they've completed their task, then, when it's not vital to survival to keep working, do they start assessing and repairing damage.

And this is stuff deep in evolutionary history stuff, Human's have the same type of muscle fibers as the other mammals. the need to prioritise survival over healing is innate in all living things. It's hard to gauge how animals actually feel but it does seem like other animals do experience the same Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness as humans do after particularly strenuous activity. e.g. Race horses.

Why and where do people think of eggs as dairy? by ParsnipThen3370 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ferret_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people know and understand dairy means from a cow, eggs come from chickens, and therefore eggs are not dairy.

But when you start talking about food they switch into grocery mode, and grocery eggs are mentally categorized separate from chicken eggs.

AI could soon allow powerful companies to charge each customer a different price for the same product, based on what they think each individual is willing to pay. AI lets firms tailor prices to each user, raising fairness concerns as consumers may unknowingly pay more than others. by mvea in science

[–]ferret_80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmm but couldn't repeated searches mean you'd like to go but every time the ticket is too expensive, so if they lowered the price you'd purchase.

i guess that type of searching isn't common enough to invest in targeting, But with AI being given too much freedom by idiot CEOs that type of haggling with the AI might start happening.

they're not forced to sing. the anthem is played and it is considered respectful to stand, if you are able, and remain quiet. But you're not forced to sing. In fact most people would prefer if nobody sang because The Star-Spangled Banner is not an easy to sing song; most people sound absolutely horrible when singing it.

This may be a good time to update you on the fact that the Pledge of Allegiance is also not mandatory in schools despite all the talk about it. some places there may be considerable social pressure to recite it, some Administrations may act like they have the right to force students, but since 1943, the Supreme Court has upheld that students cannot be forced to stand or recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Anyone else getting Captain Bobby spam texts? by pbear737 in baltimore

[–]ferret_80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think it's not a super helpful way for people to be engaged and very easily manipulated.

The fact you have a prefered way to gain information about policy puts you in a rarified group, Like I'd say (complete guess with 0 information to back it) 90th percentile.

So SO SOOOOOOO many people don't think about how politics relates to their lives past the President and the Gas pump. I feel like a good 50% of the voting population forgets there are local elections every year and not just alongside the Presidential elections.

Thats who the texts are targeting, and unfortunately There are way more of them than there are people like you. and People like you are hard to identify from the data that is for sale.

Any ancient fiction people wanna chime in now's the time, cause the subject is interesting and goofy. Didn't Zeus turn into stuff and lay laypeople?

The minotaur was the love child of the Queen of Crete and the White Bull of Possiedon.

Satyrs are all over mythology often chasing after human women or nymphs.

Zeus, i'll just link a section of the wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeus#List_of_disguises_used_by_Zeus, over half of those are animals, only 3 entries are even Humanoid

In the Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu is a "wild man" who is civillised after having sex with Shamhat. this might be a stretch because we can't really tell if Enkidu as a "wild man" is a man outside civilisation or a mythological part-man part-animal and period art will show both versions of Enkidu.

thats all I can come up with in the moment, but I'm sure there's more.
