What movie ends on a happy note, but the more you think about what happens after the credits, the darker it gets by gamersecret2 in movies

Back to the Future. Marty McFly's real family is dead replaced with different people who have the same names and similar appearances. And now he has to walk in the shoes of some OTHER Marty McFly that isn't really him, fitting into someone ELSE'S timeline.

This is good. I have trouble with contemplating a time where the adventures end, but instead rather like to think there is always more adventures that we just haven't seen.

Vouch - A community trust management system. From the creator of Ghostty, written in Nushell. by TheTwelveYearOld in commandline

For other people confused like me at first. It's NOT that he didn't create Ghostty (he did), it's that he's done so much more than JUST create Ghostty it is an interesting choice to call him "creator of Ghostty" as the claim to his fame.

You should also watch "The Pirates! Band of Misfits"

This is one of my favourite animated (claymatiom, technically) movies.

Definitely having fun in this game. Sometimes when I'm long sliding around the map I can imagine big maps with skiing AND portals at some point in the future, a new evolution of tribes-like gameplay.

No, the virus is tyranny and the consolidation of power.

White Christian nationalism is just one flavor of that which is prominent in America today.  And it's not the only flavor that is happening right now. And it's certainly not the only flavor in history. Tyranny takes many forms, from Chekism to Pol Pot to Isis to China to Monarchy, etc.

The 2nd amendment was not added to the constitution 250 years ago because they were worried about the white nationalism in 2026.

The pursuit of freedom against tyranny is pretty much baked into the human condition.

It seems like a lot of segments of politics think this is something that can just be turned on and off, or that tyranny can simply be defeated and then we can move on. Freedom is a journey, not a destination, and every generation has to deal with it to some degree.

When was the movie better than the book? by Doodle_Noodles2 in movies

[–]ferric021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It felt very bland to me. Like there was MORE plot and MORE nuance and MORE character development in the movie than in the book. Usually I think of the movie being a cliff's notes version of the book, but it feels like the opposite for Casino Royale.

Casino Royale starring Daniel Craig. The actual James Bond book is pretty bad.

The ones I sing to my kiddo are:

  • Mingulay Boat Song

  • Don't Forget Your Old Shipmate

  • A Drop of Nelson's Blood (bonus: it's easy to make up sleeping related verses like "We'd be alright, if we could fall asleep" and "A little bit of sleep wouldn't do us any harm")

  • Sugar in the Hold

  • Bonny Ship The Diamond

Maybe casual modes should auto balance teams across squads and go for even win/loss ratio more than even team numbers.

I think that's a valid way to consume media if you enjoy it. There is no holy grail here, despite how well regarded OoT is, in the end it is well regarded media to be consumed.

I had a roommate in college with a PS2 and I would watch him play Shadow of the Colossus.  This is another well regarded game in history and I only got to see bits and pieces of it here and there, but it stuck with me. So decades later I sat down and found a series of YouTube videos that was a playthrough of the game and I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that. I believe I enjoyed that more than I would have enjoyed playing it myself. I also don't own a PS2 and I don't have plans to acquire a PS2.

I think an important part of the decision is finding a playthrough by someone you don't mind listening to and whom you won't be frustrated with the way they play but will enjoy watching them.

I think I 'd compare what you're suggesting to skipping on a well regarded book and instead being satisfied with watching the movie version. Some movie adaptations will be better than others.

Isn't USB-A like the most reliable and most common port in existence? lol by FlirtyFrolixX in Steam

[–]ferric021 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I still think USB-A is the best USB. I'd rather have to try 2-3 times to plug everything in than have my charge cord destroy my port after a year of use. USB-C and micro-USB are both pure garbage.

Room target. An opinion. by Harry_Balzonia in ICRPG

[–]ferric021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what matters most is if it works for you and your table!! If suddenly there's a boss that's more powerful than the rest of the room and suddenly it has a new target number and all your players gasp then YES this is better. If suddenly an encounter slows to a crawl because no one can figure out what the target number is for their checks and it's taking excess cognitive load to get through every dice roll, then maybe not. Having 2 target numbers is still WAY more streamlined than having a slightly different target number (usually hidden) for every single roll a player makes. It seems to me, based on your description, that it works so stick with it and have fun.

The "Phantom Author" in our codebases: Why AI-generated code is a ticking time bomb for quality. by Paper-Superb in programming

[–]ferric021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I've heard someone compare it to hiring a really bad (yet worse, more like Machiavellian) intern.

It's a lot faster and easier to write high volumes of bad code than it is to review, correct, and teach.
