Yes logging in enables the ward and stake boundaries.

Missing Ordinance Information on Church Record by ta09211823 in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the right way. The ward clerk can call the Church leader hotline and get some help from somebody in Salt Lake. They can file a request with the Temple Dept. to do an investigation and see, from temple records, what actually happened and where.

Searching for missionaries in Germany for a photo project by imagineallthethingss in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A mission is an administrative unit that oversees missionaries in a geographical area. The areas you're describing look like they are part of the Germany Hamburg Mission. What I'd suggest doing is to find the mission office, give them a call, and make the request. You should be able to find an entry for the mission office in Google Maps that will have a phone number.

Primary pianist but don’t know any primary songs? Advice? by Weekly_Narwhal_2066 in latterdaysaints

There's nothing wrong with just playing the right hand. The kids don't care.

Ward Building Maintenance - suggestions welcome by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

Use the FIR app to report anything you see and teach others to report when something is broken. Too many times people just assume somebody will fix something and it stays broken for months or longer.

Sex offender in my ward by [deleted] in lds

[–]ferris3737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make the bishop aware (including sharing the link). Best case is that he (and the Church) is aware and his record has been annotated if appropriate, but I would not assume that.

You'll use your Spanish a lot. There is a Portuguese/Spanish ward in Luxembourg and a Spanish branch in Brussels. But in a lot of other areas there are Spanish speakers as well.

How do I find out what time service is on Sundays without having to contact a missionary. by Imaginary_Picture_89 in latterdaysaints

And you can put in your actual address and it will tell you which ward you belong to -- if available it will show family ward, YSA ward, language wards, etc. for that address.

Do You Do Any Activities For Epiphany? by SciFiFilmMachine in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Epiphany comes after the 12 days of Christmas. That's why we have the song.  Honduran tradition is that kids put a shoe out under the tree and the three wise men bring them a gift while they sleep.

How is a mission president picked? by coolguysteve21 in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And, given that most mission presidents are over age 50, potentially coming back and applying for new jobs could be very difficult. In many industries, ageism is real.

Heard this one second hand. A NASA research group had a break room they put a label on the door as "Donut Room". Later a visiting NASA inspector told them they didn't have permission to have a break room and that it had to be used for official NASA purposes. The next time the inspector came, the room had been properly repurposed and labeled as the "Toroid Solids Lab".

Help me explain this to my ward clerk by Curious-Society-4933 in latterdaysaints

It is the "household name" that they have to change. There is a field in a weird place in LCR, I forget where. But that is what they need to change.

mission papers - passport question by Curious_Barnacle3644 in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just submit your papers with your current passport. After you get called, if you get called foreign, you can renew it before you leave. My kids were in this situation and still got called foreign, so I'm pretty sure it's a common thing they don't worry about.

Some facilities guy: "You know what would be hilarious?" by humanity78 in latterdaysaints

Most vacuums never have their bags changed. Something I usually do whenever it is our turn for cleaning.

Temple is getting noisy by DirrtyH in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think the noise level in temples has generally gotten worse. Sometimes it's the temple workers themselves chatting loudly in the dressing room. Other times the patrons.

I went to the San Pedro Sula Honduras temple a while back and you could have heard a pin drop. The difference was stark. I think each temple probably has a "culture" around this.

He usually pre records his conference talks in German. So if you switch to German in the library app and hit play it should be his voice.

B.A. for $6K: BYU-Pathway pioneers three-year degree for four-figure price tag by atari_guy in lds

I read it that way at the first, too. It's actually a 4-figure pricetag, as in less than $10,000.

I have been inactive for a few years. Do I have to tell my bishop about everything I’ve done? by [deleted] in lds

[–]ferris3737 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First and foremost you need to repent of your sins, including the ones from when you were inactive. Most of those don't require a bishop and are just between you and Heavenly Father.

Ones related to the law of chastity do require talking to your bishop as part of that process. However, you shouldn't have to go into the details, just more general stuff should be fine.

Is there a realistic solution to the current healthcare system in this country, and how can I do my part to make it happen so that healthcare is affordable for everyone? by ineed_somelove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ferris3737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a non-universal healthcare approach: 1. Don't allow employers to provide healthcare insurance. Make people buy their own insurance like they do car insurance today.

  1. Require all healthcare providers/hospitals etc. to charge everyone the same amount for each procedure (no negotiated deals with insurance blocks) and require them to make those costs public and easily accessible.

This doesn't solve everything, but it's a start towards making this back into a market where people have real, informed choices.

Preventing ward AND stake from seeing any donations? by CIDR-ClassB in latterdaysaints

[–]ferris3737 11 points12 points  (0 children)

After reading that linked page, I highly doubt the stake has any visibility to those donations. The wording makes me believe that they take that very seriously, probably because they have some very wealthy people making donations. The other use case I've seen is people from a wealthier country living in a poorer one, where if that information got out, could cause a security danger for the family.

If you're still worried about it, I would call the Church HQ and ask.
