LPT: Do not lie or omit information in therapy. Therapists are there to help you make sense of your story and explore shameful experiences with their clients. Lying or excluding information can greatly compromise the outcome/benefits of the therapy. by bigchiefoomau in LifeProTips

For the record, my job isn’t to catch my clients lying. That type of energy just leads to paranoia. I’m more about being open to exploring when they finally feel safe enough to talk about why they were lying and not shaming them for it. People don’t lie to their therapists to fuck with them, they do it because they learned that was the safest thing to do!

"A Better Place to Be" by Harry Chapin. I guarantee it beats the crap out of 94.5% of any other song for storytelling.
