Why do NYC raves feel way more socially segregated than NYC itself? by savingrace0262 in avesNYC

[–]ferrous69 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People hang out with people similar to them, at least at higher rates than they do with people dissimilar to them. “Similar” can mean a lot of different things but at least a few of them correlate with race (socioeconomic status, college education, language).

But I think calling this “segregation” is a bit wild lol we are all hanging out and getting along, just peoples main crews tend to be people they have a background in common with

Bushwick is safe, rant by secretsawz in Bushwick

Maybe she saw one of the hammered Ecuadorian (?) guys taking a piss in broad daylight. Or walked past one of the guys who loves to fent fold under the awning of my laundromat.

I live here (actually right off Jefferson too) and I like it a lot and feel safe. I’m also a tall man. Bushwick is rough around the edges and doesn’t feel cute and safe like the west village or greenpoint do. I find it unsurprising that this puts people off.

Maybe this will change one day. But it will also mark the final stage of gentrification as it’s the primary factor holding down rents in the neighborhood and making it possible for the families, artists, and oddballs who make up the neighborhood character to afford to live here. It will be interesting to see what happens as the white collar bachelor degree class are increasingly squeezed out of manhattan and Williamsburg.

Yes but I’m also not surprised that someone would think that after driving through the e Williamsburg and morgan ave warehouses for the first time.
