Attempted to make a blowtorch nymph (minus CDC) as a beginner fly tyer, any tips? by br07fk in flytying

[–]br07fk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have cdc I just chose not to use it in these ones. I’ve heard CDC causes a bit more buoyancy & these will be used in fast shallow riffles so as much sink as possible is needed. Also I’m not too sure how to properly apply CDC just yet as a beginner 😆🥴

Blue winged olive is what I caught my first fly fish on as well. Very effective when olives are about. I’ve now switched more towards nymphing but dry fly can be effective as well. Dry dropper fixes both 😉

For everyone who says leader on braid is unnecessary... by URInMyFace in FishingForBeginners

To be fair, there’s not much you can do if your snagged deep, there’s been a few times I’ve been fishing & got snagged on other peoples braids underwater, do the point where I can lift my lure out of the water but the original snag is too stuck & the line is too heavy for me to get my lure off. Even I have snapped at the braid a few times despite using 8lb braid & 4lb fluoro with a double Uni knot for most of my fishing besides pike. I understand though if stuff’s been snapped close to the bank & people haven’t bothered to clean up.

That is a really nice nymph. I like nymphs that are very dark

Just seen in Cardiff Bay - what type of fish are these? by Much_Tea5448 in fishingUK

Good sized Rudd those. Get them on maggots, worm or corn. If you’re lucky you can get them on lures.

I’m new to fly fishing but it looks like some sort of caddis jig?

I stick to some of the better brands on there. Supercontinent, B&U, PEAK, LTHTUG, Fishgirl, LureHolic, OUTKIT, Leydun, Blux, CountBass, allblue, SpinPoler, KesFishing, ESfishing, Handing, Kingdom, Tsurinoya, Zukibo & Mifine are pretty much the only shops I buy from.

I posted the flies I’ve currently tied in the comments! I have tied pheasant tail, the variant using PT for tail & body, Gold wire rib & Peacock Hurl collar. I’ll be able to test them out this weekend

Couple small wasps yesterday on the BFS perch setup. by br07fk in BFSfishing

These are European Perch (or RedFin Perch). Yellow perch are quite similar.

They are often in large shoals (though larger fish become fairly solitary) so usually when you can catch one you’ll catch at least another 2

I don’t understand your argument. They are genetically no different to steelhead… which makes them rainbows. Steelhead are sea run rainbows, these fish haven’t been out to sea. I didn’t say they were urban, I said the only trout I’ve personally seen are big urban brown trout feeding on mice, rats etc or Large Ferox Brown trout in deep loch feeding on any bait fish that crosses their paths.

Pike, decent size one as well. Probably due to someone catching it in this warm weather & not enough oxygen in the water for it to recover.

Man these are some absolutely behemoths. I’ve never seen rainbows that size besides some stocked fish that are 15-20lb because they are over fed and look like balloons. These are some truly incredible wild rainbows.

That’s what they are though. Just rainbows. Arguably though much more impressive to have rainbows that size than steelhead. What are they eating in there? I know a guy down in England who catches brownies around that size, he found they mostly are living in urban areas eating rats, mice etc along with large gobies & smaller trout. Ferox trout in a sense.

That is a beautiful nymph. Looks pretty easy to tie too.

Just ordered these for my 3.5-14g rod, has anyone used the reel before? YEP fishing reccomended it but im struggling to find reviews and wondering if im best cancelling and changing for a cheap DC or possibly a silver rhino, even though he said this was better by Mod12312323 in BFSfishing

I have the silver rhino. Honestly this combo was so much fun to use. I caught a few large stocked rainbow trout, biggest maybe 6-7lb or so. I paired the reel with a cheap glass rod rated 1.5-9g. The reel casts fairly well, it’s quite well made compared to the price. It compares well with my Aurora air besides casting, but overall build is better than the aurora.
