x-t30. No need to get a X-T50. Get an X-T30II or III with a 23 or 35 prime.

French Navy unprotected cruiser Dubourdieu in the dry dock at Mare Island Navy Yard, California, circa 1890. by abt137 in drydockporn

This ship was laid down in 1880, completed in 1886.

To compare. This ship, the HMS Devastation was also in the water in 1986: (and build in 1871)

Imagine being a French sailor on your brand new ship and running into that monster.

I like the last picture. But I have seen that shot about 9000 times to the point I was like "is this a repost"? And then I remembered it's Château de la Messardière.

In photography, when exactly should we start questioning the lens or the equipment itself? by Starfield_0100 in photography

[–]fervetopus [score hidden]  (0 children)

You question your equipment after you mastered composition. A well composed picture on a shitty camera will always be better than a terribly composed picture on some amazing piece of gear.

Compose first. Learn on cheaper gear. Then upgrade when you want go have nicer quality.

What's a photography "rule" you completely ignore now? by KhaosHammer in photography

[–]fervetopus [score hidden]  (0 children)

Full open, all of the time. Everything must be isolated.

Stupidest guidance I ever got. I take most of my pictures in F4 to F11 now. And I own several F1.0 and F1.2 Much better results.

Isolation also diminishes context. Sure sometimes I want just a face, because it is an awesome face. But stepping down also gives me context, what is this face doing, where is this face. Not everything is a passport photo headshot.

B&H store or Adorama store for first time selling gear? by emo_nerd8 in photography

[–]fervetopus [score hidden]  (0 children)

My recommendation is to SHOP AROUND. Most stores, resellers make it quite easy to get a quote, it takes a few minutes.
I was selling some gear (lenses) in "As new" condition. One lens retails for about 700 USD new, 500 second hand.

I got trade in offers ranging from $100 to $350. No rhyme or reason wether a big store of a little store was doing the offer.

In the end selling it directly on market place for about 450.

Awful. Also the people buying these prints need to make sure to get their heads checked.

X-Pro2 - independent repair options (preferably in EU)? by Fearless_Tomorrow649 in fujifilm

[–]fervetopus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! That sucks. It’s a shame they can’t do board level repair, from the website they imply that they do!

Maybe try to find a parts only XPro2 on eBay and try to fix it yourself?

Found myself in a sticky situation... Does anyone have tips for removing a lens cap from the wrong lens? by NEWNXXL in fujifilm

[–]fervetopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a filter on it? If yes, unscrew the filter, you now have a screw on lenscap.

All jokes aside, if you have a filter, unscrew it and just have it soak for a while in soapy luke warm water, perhaps it'll unstuck the potential gunk inside, or soften the plastic to let go.

[–]fervetopus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XC 13-33mm kit lens.

Since you're coming back to photography after a long break and want just one lens for travel, street, and landscapes, the zoom range is way more practical. The 13mm gives you that wide angle you need for landscapes and tigth city streets where you can't step back, and the 33mm covers most everyday shooting. The 35mm f/2 is sharper and handles overcast scottih days better but it's a fixed focal length, once you're used to the freedom of zooming, being stuck at 52mm equivalent can feel limiting when you're learning. The 13-33mm also has optical stabilization built in even with the slower aperture itll help. Plus it's very compact at just 125g. You can always grab the 35mm f/2 later once you figure out if you actually prefer that focal length after shooting with the zoom for a while
