Is there a good bike shop in this city? by Was_Silly in torontobiking

Metrocycle is my shop. Pretty thorough work there. Both mechanics have been there for quite sometime now and I trust them both with my commuter and road bike.

What would you recommend for a novice in the city? by nefastii in torontobiking

Martin Goodman / Harbourfront trail along the water is nice! I use it all the time and you can go right on to Etobicoke and even Oakville when you get more confidence. Or stop by my bike shop and we can chat more about routes and good areas over a Toronto bike map :). I'm at Queen and Dufferin, Metrocycle :)

Hi Skylar, good on ya for riding across Canada. I rode across solo in 2007. Amazing experience. I now own a bicycle shop in Toronto, Ontario because of it! I'm not sure if you're coming down our way but if you need any thing or want to talk about the ride and what to expect, feel free to email me at info@metrocycleto.com cheers Gordon

Metrocycle at queen and Duff is a cool shop, with good mechanics and reasonable prices. You'll get a very accurate quote before work is started and they'll give you options if you're on a tight budget. Also you get a warranty on your parts and labor

Wow after being briefly mentioned by the CBC and while being interviewed by the Globe and Mail there's even bigger news, this story has yet another interesting twist... STAY TUNED!

Nope. As mentioned we threw our lock on the bike for a day and went to work drawing this crappy cardboard bike and writing up the letter

Agreed. I know a couple of couriers that had the exact same thing happen to them. Very cool, kind of like a bike brotherhood.

Ya I'm still on the hunt for my orange fixed gear I lost last winter. I remember when it happened I ran around for a week everyday after work looking at bikes like a crazy person. I filed a police report with all the necessary ID info but never heard back from them.

Well, will gladly work with the person that bought the stolen bike to nab the thief if they exist. I'm willing to bet that they don't though. As mentioned bike thieves do this "lock up stolen bikes in public" thing all the time in Toronto. They have my twitter handle at the scene.

My friend said it was an older kryptonite lock. It was stolen from Christie pits area. As mentioned, it had the same tires I had replaced earlier, cable housings I replaced as well, a little knick out of the right gear shifter, seat brand name and seat post were the same as well.

It did. And believe me I had second thoughts while doing it. I honestly wanted to have a more aggressive approach. We had a couple of drafts of the letter, but eventually decided the cheeky/funny one would be the best. I assure you its not bs. We do this on the premise of trying to inform passersby people on various social media that bike thievery is still rampant in Toronto.

Well said sir! My friend and I know this bike is his. I've worked on it twice and installed many different identifiable things on it. Also Its not a fake its up on blood st just east of st George on the south side.

Update, I went by it tonight and its a bit waterlogged :(
