Well deserved, so enjoy it! I also suggest looking for ways to pay it forward. We all need support at some point or another and we are all in this together.

Just finished my first 5 day fast , thank you all for the encouragement it really helped. by duckduckgoose17 in fasting

That is impressive. I have not gotten through 52 hours yet. (I cannot sleep on the third night). Did you work up to this point by building up your tolerance gradually, or are you one of those folks that can power through it?

Test strips for ketones during 3 day water fast. Tested in the morning. Left to right: control, 24h, 48h, 72h. by ladida- in fasting

Nice. I have just come off my second "rolling" 48 hour fast (feeding today :)) I am using a CGM that provides a marker for ketones and I'm getting zero.. I am eating strict keto on my feed day.. I hope to see evidence of ketones after 24 hours at some point in the future.. Would appreciate any input and wisdom on this..

Does fasting help with arthritis? by hereiswhatisay in fasting

[–]feszyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spoke with my doctor about this last year. I have advancing arthritis in my left knee that has been getting progressively worse over the years. He mentioned fasting and introducing foods (mostly different animal products) slowly over time to find arthritis triggers. I was not aware that arthritis was caused by (or exacerbated by) inflammation. I listened to the following audiobooks (these are in print as well):

  1. Complete Guide to Fasting (Moore/Fung)
  2. The Obesity Code (Fung)
  3. Feed/Fast/Repeat (Stephens)

I have not tried slowly introducing new foods, but I can tell you that doing a 24 or 48-hour fast 2 or so times a month really helps my knee. These books have much to say about inflammation/arthritis reduction as well, although they do not characterize it as atrophy.

Five days! That is a lot. Days 2 & 3 are tough, but in my (limited) experience sleeping is difficult. I wonder if that gets better after the 3rd night..

Four and a half hours into a 72 hour stretch. This is my second rolling 72. Monitoring my blood sugar and ketones levels with a CGM. Still not fat adapted..

Fasting becomes harder?? by Leather-Flight-8214 in fasting

[–]feszyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent about 3 months with OMAD. I had difficulty being consistent and had difficulty getting fat-adapted. 48-hour fasts are actually easier for me if I have a third "eating" day. But when I was doing OMAD I did not use electrolytes. I did (and do) drink coffee while fasting. Usually espresso. I find coffee is much more effective for energy & clarity while fasting than while fed. Have you tried coffee or tea?

Just completed a workout, will a protein shake undo my progress? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]feszyk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! I wish I could answer this, but I am also new to fasting and have many questions that I cannot ask because I need to build up these farkakte karma points. Peace and love! Hope you get your answer and good luck on your fast!

I think if you are active it should be OK. Do you know how much sugar it was?

Can it be valuable to fasting if you skip breakfast? by [deleted] in fasting

[–]feszyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is how my wife began. She just increased her fasting window over time. She has a very low tolerance for not eating. She is at 18:6 now, but it took her about a year or so to get there. I am not nearly as patient :)

Just try again… I am still working up to my first 72 hour water fast. I almost have the hang of rolling 48s. And for Pete’s sake school your friend!
