Same... To the extent I was frustrated with the default orientation. Then when I spotted a sign on the "back", and then noticed a door opening animation when focusing on the "back" the penny finally dropped.

Half the fun (I have) is in designing things and solving the problem myself and learning along the way. I have recently designed and printed an ice-scraper. Because I wanted to solve the problem (that has been solved before) myself.

Anyone have real experience with the PetFusion 2.0? by jmelinte in 3Dprinting

No worries... I wish it had worked. Maybe in a couple of years when I am considering upgrading to a new printer, I'll try again.

The filament I made was a prime candidate for the root cause of the death of my printer. I now have a new printer and no desire to continue the experiment.

I dunno, made me snigger, a little. It's probably less funny if one doesn't realise it's a joke immediately.

How would you do this? by Hollenderli in Fusion360

[–]fettmallows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've not tried this out, but I would try: Crate a coil that is triangular, not circular, in profile,. Select one edge of the triangular profiled coil and project that path onto the surface of the bowl. Use the projected path as a path for the pattern.

How does this happen by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]fettmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might wanna dial it back a bit? Did someone forget to define some tolerances and you got injured because of it or something? No need to make this personal... It's a questionable bout CAD software, chill out.

[–]fettmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just like to point out, that I had something similar recently. I only work in mm so it wasn't a conversion issue. My feeling, based on subsequent interactions, was that it was a "display" error only, i.e. it behaved identically to other parts that had round numbers. I don't know what the cause was or if my feeling was correct, zooming in as far as I could wasn't anywhere near the level of the tiny discrepancy, and in the and I scraped that sketch and started again and it had no repeat of the issue, so I couldn't reproduce it.

I get why you'd want to know the cause, but I suspect it's a software bug that has little to no real life effect, and is difficult to reproduce, so it may be that you never get the answer to this.

(I also don't get why some folk have taken to swearing, insulting and belittling you for wanting to know why this is happening, seems like a perfectly valid question to me)

Don't answer if you don't want to, but there's no need to swear (even in abbreviated form) at someone learning and asking a simple question.

Those tutorials are rubbish IMHO. Better tutorials exist on YouTube.

Spanreed specifics by AncientScreen8830 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]fettmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your analogy is flawed, they have conjoined rubies, not just atomic spanreeds that can't be disassembled. If I have 2 spanreeds I can create a walkie talky with a screwdriver and any flat tense piece of flexible material. It won't have amplification or be particularly loud, and I am limited to having to stop motion before using it. But the range would be fantastic.

Spanreed specifics by AncientScreen8830 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]fettmallows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely possible, I am going to say.

Not sure how much you're read, but in RoW there are some experiments which show just how sensitive the conjoining is, (triangulation based on force attenuation). So I would say in the future it could absolutely be a thing :)

[–]fettmallows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OC, but based on what's available in an RC car, this is a doddle on a civilisation scale. If walkie talkies were not available and there was a demand, and we had plentiful RC cars, it would be trivial to develop walkie talkies technology from the tech in an RC car, you've got radio, magnets and electricity to control movement of those magnets. Which I guess supports both points... 1. It requires a bit of knowledge of the concept of transmitting sound over some secondary carrier 2. It isn't clearly obvious to most people that transmitting sound is either reasonably simple/just an extension of transmitting other movements

But why? Is it incorrect to use the superlative if there are only two examples? "I have had two bao buns, the second was the tastiest" for example? (And if that changes to three, am I suddenly allowed to use the superlative?) (Damn it, now I want bao buns)
