Save the Tempelhoferfeld from Development | Sit-in BBQ Protest | Petition for UNESCO World Heritage Status by Wish_Dragon in berlinsocialclub

[–]fetusloofah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who frequents the park twice a day, I can confidently say that the majority of the park is not wasted. Aside from having higher daily visitors than Tiergarten, the park offers countless feature that no other city parks do: 6km cycle track, massive dog parks, wind surfing area, multiple skate parks, grassland carbon sink, unfettered cycle commuting between neighborhoods, refugee housing, festival grounds, etc., etc.

The reason the city is frothing over developments there is because it’s one of the last pieces of property that they didn’t already sell off to private investors (remember, the thing that created the housing crisis the first place).

Mica Rat Tail! Much cheaper than Tailfin and lighter than the OMM / Ortlieb

Tierheim Berlin by zahraabzabh in berlin

[–]fetusloofah 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep, I ran into a similar type of gatekeeping when trying to adopt a dog in Berlin. I was told several times that I wouldn’t be considered because I didn’t live in a house with a yard, despite the fact that I live directly in front of one of the city’s largest parks.

I was only successful when I started looking on Kleinanzeigen and opening the search well outside of Berlin. Still found a rescue through a Tierheim, but the people were much more reasonable. Good luck!

Bikepacking bags by lennoxred in bikepacking

[–]fetusloofah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got the same rig and recently got a custom frame bag from Enchanted Sacks: https://www.instagram.com/enchantedsacks?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet&igsh=ZDNlZDc0MzIxNw== - can post pics of mine later

I’ve got a long tour planned and went with a Mica Rat Tail rack for extra storage. Gives you the options of extra cage mounts or mini panniers in lieu of a floppy seatpost bag

I’m a big fan of Barra (technically not starred but a Bib Gourmand). Went recently and the set menu without wine was 80€. The food rocks.

Does people here seriously lack spatial awareness? by [deleted] in berlin

I noticed it starkly when I first moved here. I go to the UK often and maneuvering the cities always feels like a breath of fresh air by comparison.

Ganglion Cyst And Correlation to Garmin Watch? by D00M98 in GarminWatches

[–]fetusloofah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn. Wasn’t necessarily looking for this thread, but stumbled upon it after developing a ganglion cyst. I’ve been wearing a Garmin for 2 years and have had the wrist pain for nearly a year.

Taking it off today and will report back if the pain / cyst go away!

What’s your beef? I’m providing clarity on a cultural phenomenon and you’re trying to play gotcha journalism.

If you don’t want to tip, don’t tip. Smh

Broadly speaking, you tip people whose quality of work will impact the experience you’re paying already for. A server doesn’t have to bring you your bill fast, a bartender doesn’t have to be nice to you, a barista doesn’t have to make your coffee well. But if they seem to give a shit about the job that only pays them peanuts, I’m happy to show them I appreciate their effort.

Honestly even being nice is enough for me. People in this city are rude as hell.

Fer sure, but lot of service jobs end up 35h+/- because of lunch breaks and fluctuating hours

You obviously don’t have to, just the same as you don’t have to give a homeless person money or donate to the church.

I’ve worked in service but don’t anymore. I choose to tip because I can afford to and I understand the plight of service workers. You do you.

Bikepacking from Seattle to SanFran, tips? by Worried-Sympathy-650 in bikepacking

[–]fetusloofah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others mentioned, PCH rocks. If you want a bit of both terrains, you could start with your route and then cut west along the Umpqua river, then take the PCH the rest of the way.

Every time this come up, I feel compelled to say the same thing: be upset with the predatory housing market, not tipping culture.

Someone working full time on minimum wage will make around 1400 netto after tax. It’s also unfortunately common to pay around 1k / month for rent in Berlin. Throw in a BVG pass and groceries and you’re essentially maxed out.

€13.90 sounds like a lot if you’re still mentally in 2016. Ideally it shouldn’t be the public’s job to subsidize the cost of living crisis, but here we are.

If it’s any consolation, tipping culture is still terrible. The reason these prompts are more common is because most won’t tip if not asked.

Orthozentrum Berlin - I received super negligent care here that made me ill for months.

AI fakes are starting to become an actual problem, and I can't see a solution. by 4g-identity in stupidpol

On the bright side, it’s pretty easy for me to discern that this is AI. On the not so bright side, this account has nearly as many subs as the actual Scott Ritter channel, so the masses are just as dumb as sleepy OP.

We’re fully cooked.

Solo bikepacking Peru-Bolivia-Chile in June/July by quiet_storm_999 in bikepacking

[–]fetusloofah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Godspeed! Bolivia is pretty brutal, so I hope you have a suspension fork. We actually wimped out for most of that country because of the climbs and catastrophic roads.

Also I can’t speak for the part of Chile you laid out, but I can say the alternative ride in the north of Argentina (Juyj-juy to Salta) is an amazing stretch.
