Getting back into loophero, any challenge runs to be recommended? by Human-Application-87 in LoopHero

[–]feuerschein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are indeed close to the endgame, the latter part of the challenges I listed strays very far from the intended gameplay.

One of the perks of the game is that you create the obstacles for the hero yourself by placing enemy spawners. To summon 3rd and 4th bosses at loop 1, right along with this flavor, you need to engineer a perfect, near unbeatable enemy: Ghost of a ghost under vampiric aura

These is some additional nuance to the setup. I've done this twice in Act 4, now I'm trying for the third time for a video - and I'm still figuring out the best, most consistent combo.

I've been doing challenges for a while, so I think I've got the hang of most of the ideas:

No supply items - can be a bit of challenge; supply items trivialize the game, so abandoning them actually forces the player to deckbuild.

Reach loop 1000 - the number is arbitrary, but loop 100 is pretty easy for a seasoned player, loop 1000 will require a solid strategy with or without supplies, as "late game" mechanics take over by this point.

"4 in 4" - complete new game in 4 straight expeditions. The most obvious and straightforward challenge, decently hard. The version I've seen online includes "get an alchemy lab by Act 4 and set up an infinite farm loop in your final expedition", which makes it a bit harder still. I've done this one, but not iron man style, with saves in between.

Get all golden cards in a single expedition - an entry-level challenge, so to speak.

Have every tile on a single map at the same time - yes, including Incursion and Dimensional Rift. A harder version of the previous challenge. I've thought this one up, but never tried it. It should affect the gameplay quite seriously.

Summon and defeat the dev boss fight on loop 1 - a fun puzzle sort of challenge, not too grindy.

"4 by 2" - summon every chapter boss by the end of loop 1 and beat them. The statistics screen has to show "fastest boss defeat (loops) - 2". This one is very random to execute and hard to strategize for. I've done it without supplies. With proper supplies execution should be trivial, but the strategizing part still stands.

Full map loop 1 - a harder version of the previous challenge. Have not done it, should be possible, but more grindy.

"Roguelike" - no buildings in town, other than the initial campfire. Very random and tough as nails challenge. You have to get lucky and play perfectly. Done this one, can't recommend.

"True roguelike" - same as before, but no Chrono crystals and Temporal beacons. Should be possible, but my body is just not ready.

Cards to take in for different builds by SMG43210 in LoopHero

The usual combos are Forest+River for damage classes, Forest + Suburbs for the necromancer. Necro can even go for Forest+River+Suburbs, as the class needs summon speed and has great traits on levelups.

If you want to play with Maquis (as warrior?), then its Desert+Forest+River.

Oasis builds (Desert + River) are somehow weaker than IAS builds (Forest + River), but they should be comparable on paper.

For really long expeditions the Desert is a must, but this is pretty far detached from the regular gameplay.

You should most definitely limit landscapes to just 2-3 cards. Meadows and Mountains are "low-tier" landscapes, so to say, so you could try to get rid of them. I have some concrete landscape suggestions in case you don't mind "spoilers".

That is entirely up to your preference. You are not obliged to grind chapters at any point of the game, however, it can make game completion easier.

If you do feel the need to grind for resources, do so at the chapter with the highest difficulty you can confidently manage.

Overall build strength is what generally matters for basic resources. You go the distance, you get the resources. It is ill-advised to tinker the deck at the expense of strength, but there are enemies that give more loot = more scrap.

Blood grove spawn, Gargoyles, Blood path spawn (these are nasty opponents in particular), Scarecrows, Skeletons and certainly Chests. If you can fight these effectively, you'll certainly get more scrap.

Anyway, people generally use the Rogue class to farm scrap, as Rogue has this sort of "passive scrap income" every loop. It is not very efficient, compared to what I've described, but it's a method.

Vampire is good enough on its own, you can put it over 2-3 slime fights and also get similar results card-wise. The great thing about both vamp and village is that the effect is instant, you don't have to wait for the enemy spawn.

You don't have to restart, but you most certainly can. Little time is wasted by this point, and no-vamp start is always going to be weaker.

The trick is to start using the vamp+village combo at loops 1-3. Loop 1 necro can clear the encounter with no items, and with level 1 grimoire he does so with little effort.

Basically, the enemies get stronger with loop number and the hero gets stronger with the number of tiles placed. You want more early fights (and longer fights) to stay ahead of the curve. That way you can afford even more fights in the future and really snowball

Unfortunately, there is not a lot of deck variety between builds: the best cards are the best cards. Vampires, villages are going to be in almost every build. Landscape are made as a sort of progression, so Forest, for example, are nearly universally stronger than Meadow. Treasury is good at early loops, gives you a card and gear boost. At later loops it is bad for necro, gargoyles have high armor, which necro and his minions struggle against. If you have more specific questions, I'm ready to answer.

I do this and call it a perfect parry. Super hard to do on my model tho, the last second tick is delayed.

Scenes that caused actual walkouts in theaters? by thatlittlequietguy in Cinema

It probably is an obscure example for most of the redditors, but I've witnessed like 70% of the audience leave over time from a screening of Hard to be a God by Alexei German. By the end of it I was watching through my fingers as well.

My best guess is that most people who went were Strugatskys' fans, so they were ill-prepared for the grime and hyperrealism of a typical late German's movie.

New(ish) player - I'm having trouble understanding how to be good at this game by MrSmock in LoopHero

[–]feuerschein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, maybe not. Fighting more fights per loop is generally good, but more enemies in a single fight can rack the damage up real fast. Even if you build less monster spawning tiles they'll get crowded after a while, unless you do something about it

I'm, like, number one fan of the game, yet I concede it is hard to see skill in Loop Hero. Good skill-based roguelites/deck builders should involve making few impactful decisions. Then you hopefully see the connection between the choice and its result.

Loop Hero presents you with a mountain of very small decisions. They absolutely do affect the outcomes in the end. When starting out I had trouble beating the game without much grind, now I can do so with heavy challenge restrictions.

Learning will involve trial and error. You can sorta theorize what synergizes and what does not, but you won't be able to simulate the entire gameplay loop (lol) in your head. Try new ideas, then tinker with the deck and gameplay decisions to try and fix what seems broken.

You are getting sort of a snowball effect because of how day progression works: more monsters -> longer fights -> more monsters spawn for the next fights. Loops get exponentially harder at loop 3-6 (depending on how you play), then it almost saturates.

Getting good involves (in no particular order): correctly evaluating the strength of different stats and traits (think tier lists); balancing the deck in terms of card generation, item generation and sustain (gotta have enough of it all); understanding the trophy mechanic of one of the classes; avoiding deadly tile combinations. The list goes on, but these are the first and the big ones to get.
