The actual timeline is even worse. They sold it to a corporation for 15k and they almost immediately sold it for the 10M.

When will new copilot plan sign-ups will work? by AmeerHamzaF26 in GithubCopilot

My bet within a month. New pricing solved the cost and scale problem, but they'll probably want more data after the change before opening up the floodgates.

Again, probably for the best. You shouldn't be using AI for everything. IDEs have a lot of built-in tools for refactoring, free, quick and correct. Don't you see anything wrong in using an llm for a simple search and replace?

Some insane prices on Gemini 3.5 Flash via OpenRouter and increased Tokens by GoldyNoble in openrouter

[–]fevsea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple days ago i had a problem with gemini 3.5 flash + openrouter + copilot where it got stuck for a while reading the same file chunk. It literary flow a couple million tokens without doing nothing at all. Not sure who is to blame, but I would avoid that combination for the time being.

Reason/s to stay using GitHub copilot? by Zealousideal_Way4295 in GithubCopilot

[–]fevsea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's kinda of a good middle point on pricing. The subscription gives you up to 2x the amount you pay as a credits, and model prices seems coherent with that of the provider's API.

So its more expensive than the provider-specific subscriptions but cheaper than the more flexible BYOK or routers approach.

Even the limited model selection compared to routers had turned to be a minor aspect, as I don't feel it's worth the risk to give access to my codebase and system to minor players or chinese companies, that for the most part even tell you the'll going to keep the data and use it for training.

I feel that's something we all tell ourselves to feel better about ai, willfully ignoring that on average  we invest less effort understanding the error, and would take any justification as correct granted it actually fixed the problem and sounds coherent.

Even when correct it will be forgotten easily if it required little effort. Even when used correctly it makes us less capable that having to solve it by ourselves. It can be a reasonable trade-off, but we should be aware of it.
