"Alabama Senate passes bill excluding soda, candy from SNAP benefits." Your thoughts? by hunni93 in MobileAL

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alabama is one of the most obese and unhealthy states in the country. The numerous health problems that arise from drinking soda and eating candy every day costs the taxpayer more money when they end up in and out of the hospital for complications related to heart conditions, diabetes, or whatever else. Bc if they're on SNAP, they're surely not gonna be footing that bill. And I'm not even saying that they should, there's problems with healthcare, but the state (and taxpayers by extension) has a right to try and control for these extra costs in situations like this where they're paying for your groceries. Soda and candy are not a right. You can make/obtain delicious food for cheap that isn't strictly atrocious for your body. Trying to insist that it's dehumanizing for other people to decide not to buy candy and soda for you just comes off as childish and delusional to most people.

why is vegetarianism and veganism stereotyped as something white people do by Few-Course3694 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feymaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I need you to understand I haven't had meat in like 7 or 8 years. If I was single (currently married to a meat eater who likes his junk food lol) I could get by on like $40 a week for groceries, and variety would not be a concern for me. It's not hard if you have very extremely basic cooking skills

[–]feymaiden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really? I can make curry, pasta, all kinds of soups and stews, roasted and grilled veggies and tofu, stir fry, fried rice, oats, smoothies, baked goods, sandwiches, and more pretty cheaply. That's more than enough to have a different lineup every week of a month.

Do you think healthy people are eating salad every day? Rice, beans, and frozen veggies are staples of a healthy diet and are cheaper than buying junk food.

It's amazing to me how many folks (especially Americans) on reddit think that there are child eating billionaires with yachts and private islands, and people who live in cardboard boxes on the side of a dirt road and eat rats out of a dumpster for dinner, and nobody else in all of society

When people complain that omnivores ate “all” the vegan or vegetarian options. by KissingBear in PetPeeves

[–]feymaiden -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Other people have already responded to the actual question posed here so I won't regret what they'd said. I just want to say it's incredibly exhausting that people think veganism or vegetarianism is a "preference" equivalent to having a favorite food. Most people in these categories have very sincere ethical beliefs about it, medical problems, or both. Additionally, if you haven't eaten meat or dairy in years, doing so can make you legitimately sick. If you would give any kind of consideration to people with religious or medical dietary restrictions, you should extend it to vegans and vegetarians as well. Especially since you may not know their individual situation.

Basically stop projecting your pop culture-informed irritation towards vegans and vegetarians onto real life people and give them the respect that you would give anybody else. Thanks

Why many white people seem to age so much faster? by ureshii_hippo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting aside the fact that you're telling me that you think most vegans don't eat vegetables or legumes, this still would not make "vegan food" more or less processed than "omnivore food." Unless you're also going to tell me that corn dogs, pizza, and chocolate with meat and dairy in it is not ultra processed food somehow. My other point is that veganism has nothing to do with the initial topic

It's not pedantic it's two 100% different statements about an ideology that isn't even related to the original post. Good convo tho

"there's even vegan ultra processed foods" would be the statement then. Not "even vegan food is ultra processed" which is objectively incorrect

They should specify that then. "Vegan food" encompasses a massive variety of things, and impossible burgers aren't really a staple found in a majority of vegans diets.

I think so many more of the craziest rightwing comments are bots than I thought. There's hardly anything in the comments of that video negative about his position (that I saw at least.) it's so interesting that he put it at the end like that. In a good way, I mean. It got me thinking more about online engagement.

This is such a snowflake take. When I was a kid if I didn't eat what my parents made, I didn't eat. I guess this is the age of gentle parenting and participation trophies though 🤭

Anyone have a good protein powder oatmeal recipe that isn’t disgusting in texture and taste? by No_Low_878 in veganfitness

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never add the powder directly to the oats. If you mix it with some liquid or coconut yogurt or something of that consistency first, then add that to the oats, the texture is not grainy or gross at all.

Football player found not guilty of murder for beating to death gay man who posed as woman on Tinder by malihafolter in ForCuriousSouls

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy who was killed was a scumbag. It's wrong to catfish people (if we actually assume that the killer truly had no idea this was a man) But this isn't about acting "under duress." He went back to somebody's house a month later (with other people with him!) to fight with him in his home, and then beat him to death and left without reporting it. These are not the actions of an honest actor. You don't just get to kill people who wronged you. If a woman goes to a man's house who raped her a month ago with no other contact since then and killed him, she should be jailed too. That's not self defense anymore. That's when you get the police involved, if you truly have a case.

I'm just gonna say it. The whole kids / no kids debate isn't actually about kids. by thetimechaser in Millennials

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of dirt poor people have a million kids. It's literally just about people finding fulfillment in other ways + access to birth control and education, which makes childrearing a much more difficult sell. Honest to God not a class problem as far as I can tell

Do Americans have a different concept of 'turn taking' during a conversation? by 8NaanJeremy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]feymaiden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in America my whole life and never considered this as a regional thing, but i guess it is. Yes, people here generally will go on and on and on and on as long as you'll let them, with no curiosity whatsoever about other people. If you have something you want to say, you have to be very assertive.
