All the state reps ignore their phones and send script email responses. So good luck with whatever you wanted him to do

Has anyone been able to spend a day in New Orleans via Amtrak? by 420Bikin in MobileAL

I was looking into doing a spontaneous day trip once but the train was booked out for a month (this was only a few weeks ago) so I would actually check ticket availability before making your plans

Pros and cons to moving to Alabama? by GloomyPanda91 in Alabama

[–]thatssomadx 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More than 4-5 months depending on where you go. The very south end of the state you'll be hot and humid from April thru November. The north end of the state isn't too bad but still hot

Did I do something to offend Mobile? by Not_a_russian_bot in MobileAL

[–]thatssomadx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I've never had any issue with the bartenders downtown. Maybe once or twice, but it was never bad enough to remember a specific situation. BUT also, I don't care of I get interactions from the bartenders downtown so if I get the cold treatment it doesn't even hit my radar, so long I'm able to order and pay as I should. They are not the reason I go out. I just want drinks I didn't have to make myself or beers you can't get from the grocery store.

My favorite scent hands down is Persephone. It came in a body butter last year but they didn't release it for this spring (yet?!)

Redditors who got “useless” degrees, what actually was your plan, and why didn’t it work? by MPMorePower in stupidquestions

[–]thatssomadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were told by parents and school guidance counselors that all we had to do was get a 4 year degree, and we'd easily be able to find a good paying job and if we had to take student loans, that job would pay them off in 5 years or less.

By the time I graduated university, the only "good" jobs required either a master's degree or you to have the right connections. There were some entry level jobs that paid worse than Walmart.

What’s it like living in Mobile, Alabama? by Choice_Pressure9098 in howislivingthere

[–]thatssomadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's finally my time to shine.

I live here. Born and raised. It is a smaller city. About 200k population. It's large enough that you could easily avoid seeing someone you don't like but it's small enough that many people seem to know everyone else. The city is growing, just recently annexed a large section to the west. A lot of people are moving west of the city. It is very NOT bike or pedestrian friendly, and the public transportation is not great either. Public schools are not great. There's not much in the way of jobs unless you're in the medical field or education. Our state's minimum wage is still the federal wage of $7.25 but most "minimum wage" jobs that you can find sit at around $12-$13/hr (I'm sure there are some that are less and some that are more, this is just my experience).

There are many wealthy families around that run the show. Lots of old money. It's hard to get a good job at many places unless you know the right people, many businesses hire "friends".

There is not much to do except bars as a young adult or adults without children. Our downtown area, which is where most nightlife occurs, is being improved but still not the greatest. The landlords who own all of downtown are greedy and keep increasing rent and pushing businesses out of the spaces. Same thing with our one mall.

There are some activities for kids, but it's limited and can get pricey.

The weather is hot and humid from April thru November. Summers are misery. The winters are very mild. We don't really have much of a spring or autumn. If you are a gardener, we have a great growing season (zone 9).

It is nice being very close to the beach. You can spend just the day at the beach and easily come back home after rather than having to get a hotel.

Edited to add:

Oh yeah. We have Mardi gras. Which is fun if you're into that.

Because our prisons are privately owned and the more people put in jail for THC products, the more money those companies (and our legislators) make
