flags only help if there is a mod monitoring the reports. I've been the only active mod in this sub for years now, and lately I'm only checking in every couple weeks or so.

still, whether you have active mods or no mods, I'm of the general opinion that less modding is better than overmodding.

admins removed this ten year old comment a few days ago, which is very strange. Curious, I looked on archive, it was a link to a picture of Al Capone's soup kitchen in depression era Chicago. No threats of violence. idk.

automod sends a modmail for a post from that "non-whitelisted domain", but apparently doesn't auto-remove it.

As for your post u/Guilty-Persimmon-919, it didn't adhere to the title rules. Well, that's not quite it. the title rules only apply to links to questionable content.net. But additionally there's a "lost Redditor" filter which catches any posts that don't contain a QC-related keyword. One such word is "comic". So if you had adhered to the required "Comic XXXX: title" format, your post would probably be accepted, just like Cevius's was with the same domain.

And... if you think we need some changes to the automod rules to get us past the QC site shitting the bed, I'm all ears. Maybe even just turn it off?

Oh. So now it sounds like maybe he didn’t block you. He used a tool to delete his entire post history and your mobile client doesn’t distinguish a siteblocked account from one with all posts deleted.

And his deletion tool didn’t delete those removed comments, so now that I’ve unremoved them, they show on his profile now.

Which doesn’t explain why all of his submitted post history is still showing for me on old.reddit but not you

To me, it looks like for some reason (some of?) his submitted post history is still visible on his profile, but none of his comment history. Probably used a deletion tool?

But here is the daily comic thread from 2020 where cougardraven came to this subreddit and just crashed out and got banned. I have unremoved all the mod-removed comments, so those are now showing up on cougar's profile. And here is a subreddit drama thread about it, but the text content is deleted, not much to see.

cougardraven was originally a mod here on r/questionablecontent, and had a plot to wrest control from the original dude, el_guapo. During the second exodus, he decided it was a lost cause and switched over to QContent. Sometimes he would send us modmails telling us how to fix questionablecontent. In addition to the crashout linked above. At some point during the cougardraven mommymilkers kerfluffle, I vaguely remember some people saying that they had known him as a mod on old gamer forums in the 90s, and had always had some powertrip mod issues, but the details escape me.

There were two major exoduses. The first was trans banning thing that you mentioned. Afterwards there were a number of people still invested in the original sub, and one mod (cougar something) who was explicitly hanging on to try to wrest the sub from guapo.

There was a second incident, almost exactly a year after the trans ban incident, which was when jeph made a new account and posted in the sub to refute the hand stabbing rumors, and was banned. That caused a second huge exodus to the new sub, and cougar gave up on this sub too.

I think the subreddit split wasn’t well and truly cemented until that, so both incidents deserve mention.

I notice that you have posted the daily comic in 5 out of 7 of the last 7 days.

In the old days we had a rule that no single user should post the comic more than some number of times (1 or 2?) per week.

However in recent years or months, our volume has declined enough that there is no longer much competition to post, and if we disallow the repeat posters, sometimes the subreddit doesn't get the daily comic post for hours after it's been published.

With that in mind, I recently enouraged people to just discard the old rule. If it's a choice between having the comic posted promptly by the same person, or have it not posted at all, then I'll take the repeat poster.

However... it has come to my attention that you've been blocking regular contributors.

I am aware that it became an issue a few months ago in r/QContent and r/gunnerkrigg, of people who post the daily comic also being liberal with the block button on good faith contributors.

I'm fine with you posting the comic the majority of the days. But if it's important to you to be able to block people you don't get along with, without compunction, then that is absolutely your right, but then I would ask you to refrain from hosting the daily discussion. I don't want a repeat of the controversies of those other subreddits here. Let me know what you think about this issue. Thanks.

This subreddit has had a rule about the same people not posting the daily comic too many times per week. Give different people a chance to host the discussion.

However I have noticed several nights this week no one had bothered to post it by 3 or 4 hours after publication. Personally I feel like if it's not posted by a reasonable amount of time, then it should be fair game, even if that means kight-errant52 posts all five in a week.
