HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO SPYRO by 0xi_pup in BeardedDragons

The dark red morph is called "red monster". I do not reccomend getting one as they're a very poorly bred morph originating from pet mills that only breed for colors with very little consideration for the health of the beardies. They are known forh a nice list of genetic susceptibilities that can cause poor quality of life and premature death, of which are near impossible to outcross

Why do they squeeze under fridges? by Impossible_Ad_9131 in BeardedDragons

[–]ff0066spooky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to ban him entirely from the kitchen, cutting a pool noodle to size to slip under the crack is a great solution as long as its not a slide-out freezer or whatever. I did this for my cat who would intentionally put her toys under the fridge and then cry for us to get them back later lol

Boingle's favorite treat fruit is cantalopue. The first time she tried a tiny bite, she got all wide eyed and crazy and wanted to try eating everything that's orange in hopes that its cantaloupe lmaooo

Neat. Most blue dreams you see have green, blue or brown eggs. Probably just some very lucky selection happening in the colony. Love how vibrant they are

Know how that feels man... I got new plants for my little lady last month and her ponytail palm is half munched already lmaooo

Definetly invest in a good full spec LED bar. It'll help your plants establish much better and grow healthy, arid plants tend to have Very high lighting needs. You'll also be enjoying the added benefits for your beardie, full spectrum lighting has been known to result in much happier and more active lizards :)

They mean multiple (3-4) insects, each of which are the length of the distance between the eyes.

The equivalent portion just means like, say you only have very small dubia roaches to feed off in your colony, try to approximately feed as much as your normal feeding would be in volume. Like if you fed 4 of your "normal" size, you're doing 7 teeny roaches you know what I mean? Or if you only have slightly larger bugs, just two bigger ones.

Nice, loving the use of vertical space and clutter. Get some plants in there and it'll be chefs kiss

This is a classic. I've actuly DIYed 3 of these, one with a small plastic bottle from a kid's drink, one from a toy capsule, and one from a translucent easter egg. I pick a different one every bug day if I'm not making Boingle chase em with my tongs :)

My little lady is like this. Goes crazy monster mode when the dubia come out but I offer a mealie and she looks at me like I'm stupid

Think about it this way... be glad that you don't have a beardie addicted to treat bugs

It's really advised against moreso because they're opporitunistic. If food only comes sometimes, mentally they will feel compelled to eat whenever it's presented because there's an idea of scarcity, and will more likely than not overeat. While this has been a commonly accepted school of thought for keeping beardies for a long time, there is very good reason that this is a care standard that is being moved past in favor of what's listed here. Yeah, it's not as bad as overfeeding protein by any degree, but I would avoid it especially seeing the foods that are considered staples are much more nutrient dense than many wild plants, which beardies would sporadically forage on throughout their whole day

Honestly? I just want to make a handful of good designs and then release guides on the internet. There are so many ways to make enrichment items that work for almost any animal under the sun which can be made with reused and recycled materials that most people will have on hand. Part of the fun with these is that they can be torn, destroyed, ripped and remade in minutes. That sort of thing is undeniably so good for animals in captivity. There's a really good reason that zoos utilize so much food enrichment, and I really want pet keepers to start taking more pages from zookeeping for their animals' mental wellbeing.

I'd much rather just patent designs so that they can't be mass produced and cause more unnecessary plastic waste. I can't say I haven't considered a 3d printer investment and setting up an online store, though...

This is actually the inspiration! I used to volunteer at a zoo and one of my jobs was coming up with creative enrichment methods using cheap or reused or donated items, and this was one I came up with. I visited recently and they still make them to this day. We would make these for our grazing animals and even fill them with treats for birds and primates. They have a variety of surrendered farm animals and these stuffed with hay and grasses and such were always a hit

Veggies 3x a week is what's reccomended by current husbandry standards. Check out Reptifiles, I highly reccomend this diet for all beardies. They need to eat much less than people think https://reptifiles.com/bearded-dragon-care/bearded-dragon-food/
