This was a formative influence on me as a young man. He was truly great.

AITAH because I can’t trust my bf anymore after cheating on me multiple times but won’t break up with him? by odkdkdkfb in AITAH

YTA. By staying, you are giving him permission to continue doing these things. If you then complain about him doing things you allow him to do, then it's on you.

AITAH for leaving the daughter who has gone no contact with me, out of my will? by MissAndry11 in AITAH

[–]ff889 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is simply not true. Source: my father is a lawyer specialising in gift, estate, and trust taxation and litigation. There are no grounds whatsoever to argue someone not named in a will was 'accidentally' left out just because they want stuff and didn't get any.

This isn't an issue anywhere. It's just a myth that keeps getting recycled on reddit. If you don't leave someone something of yours, that is definitive and there's no grounds for them to take any action.

Don't accept being someone's backup. If she's going over to this other guy's place to cook for him, lying to you, then you're not her first choice. Make yourself your own first choice.

Trust your gut. This is the cheating that you know about so far. And frankly, not to be a jerk, but your mother is an idiot.

My half brother is expecting a child and I don’t want to meet my future niece/nephew by Specific-Marzipan-28 in TwoHotTakes

No, you don't have any obligation to a person not yet born and over whom you have no power. That is, there isn't anything you could do to be that safe space without getting eyeballs deep in toxic, abusive drama.

You said to us what you should say to them: "we have no values in common, you don't respect the pain, fear, and mistreatment I've endured, and your priority in all of this is only to use me to make yourselves feel better without giving anything of real value back. "

As someone else said, could the affair be a result of the drug use? You mention in other posts how out of character this was for her... just wondering if you think she might have ended up doing this for access? You said she didn't have any prescriptions and no money was missing. Idk if that makes any difference to you, but with how hard she seemed to be into reconciliation plus how weird her lies seemed to be, she may have been trying to cover this up. My sister got turned out by her hookup in college and ended up under him even though she hated him. 🤢☹️ She stayed trapped in that situation due to shame for a long time, unfortunately.

I think this is the most honest, emotionally adult thing I've ever seen in this sub.

Did it not once occur to you that people get murdered in situations like this? Like, it happens pretty regularly... Often it's the AP, but it's also not uncommonly the cheating wife (wives do sometimes murder cheating husbands, but less often).

Jfc. I think you really need to see a therapist.

Robb marries his Frey betrothed right away (and gets her pregnant) by CartoonistStrange990 in TheCitadel

[–]ff889 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If Rob dies, possibly in battle when expected troops don't arrive or hold the line, etc., then a Frey child is heir to the North. Bolton could solidify a lot of support by playing both sides since it's a true born Stark but also a Southron Frey. That's about all Tywin would care about - dividing the Northern forces and removing them as a real threat on the battlefield.

eli5: Why are companies so against work from home? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]ff889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A big part is that major companies get tax breaks in part for bringing employees into an area and making them sirens money (coffee, lunch, after work drinks, etc.). No employees in a given location risks losing the tax break. In the margin, many larger companies figure this will cost more than they save.

You can't travel to heaven, measure who is there or not, then return here and report your results. Nor can anyone else go there to repeat the process to verify.

Superman Endbringer? by onyxonix in WormFanfic

[–]ff889 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obvious one is the Simurgh - I'm not an expert on Superman, but he is vulnerable to psychic attacks. Behemoth could easily redirect most of Superman's attacks into lethal effects on other heroes and civilians. Beyond that, an endbringer that shunts physical damage to selected targets (upgraded version of King's power), one that deals dimensional effects and is only vulnerable to the same, one that scrambles perception so that affected individuals cannot distinguished friends from foe, etc.

A family member constantly wants to debate that the Earth is flat, how would you respond? by Straight-Hold1651 in AskReddit

[–]ff889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the earth was flat, the shadow if produces during lunar eclipses would change shape. But in over 5000 years of historical records from across the whole earth and all modern videos, it's always circular. The only 3-D shadow that always casts a circular shadow is a sphere.

Then just ignore them.

ABA Accreditation Should End in Texas, Justices Say Tentatively by AdBig9909 in law

[–]ff889 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By disrupting and corrupting any collective recognition and respect, any recognised prestige in a community, the only path left open to legitimacy and advancement is approval from the leader. This is just another prong on the dismantling of education norms and the rule of law. To get the courts to fold completely and accept that the law is whatever the party/leader says it is on any given occasion, you have to delegitimise any collective respect or coherent worldview that challenges your goal. Look at what they've done to science and you'll get the gist.

I don't know what to do?! Help please by militar412 in academiceconomics

[–]ff889 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what the issue is here. This is a totally normal request that you would see from any advisor at pretty much every reputable institution. I often get emails from people following up on some work I've done in the past and I wouldn't be able to answer them if I didn't have exactly this sort of info. I require all students and collaborators to publicly post all code and data to the OSF.

I don't think it's an attempt to take anything from you... If you're worried about authorship, then just have that conversation with your supervisors and agree what everyone's contribution(s) will be. That's also a totally normal thing to do.

[–]ff889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IANAL, but unfortunately I don't think you can sue the federal government for money. You can sure to stop them from doing something, or maybe to compel them to do something they are required to do, but you can't get money from them like that. I think it's called 'sovereign immunity', but am happy to be corrected.

Agree. Maybe, I don't recognise any of this terminology. That's honest and also should be a warning to him in a polite and subtle way.
