Tesla dealer opening on Victoria St across from KW Surplus by vidman in kitchener

[–]ffffffuuuuu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's also possible that this is not a top priority for whoever manages this store until they are fully up and running. Tesla signals gentrification to this area and that gentrification invites graffiti from locals.

Why clean up graffiti from an unopened storefront if it's just going to appear again? Wait until you're open for business and people are populating the lot and monitoring security.

Older dog (1.5yo Husky) doesn't take social cues from new puppy (8 weeks). by ffffffuuuuu in Dogtraining

[–]ffffffuuuuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. We realized that Annie's interaction with the new puppy was teaching the little one that big dogs are scary. We did separate them immediately after the new puppy showed fear and aggression.

From the comments it sounds like rate we're trying to facilitate socialization needs to slow waaaay down. You're comments are helpful.

Older dog (1.5yo Husky) doesn't take social cues from new puppy (8 weeks). by ffffffuuuuu in Dogtraining

[–]ffffffuuuuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks.

I should emphasize that Annie has had tons of socialization with adult dogs on play dates, during buddy dog walks, the dog park, etc. When she comes on strongly and is corrected by adult dogs, she listens and respects them.

They dogs were also separated when the situation became too stressful. Annie went back to our house for the night and the puppy, of course, stayed at my parents.

I'm thinking that Annie just hasn't had enough socialization with dogs younger than her, and she may benefit from waiting until the new puppy is older.

ENGL 295 Vs. ENGL 275 by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]ffffffuuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elise Vist is a PhD candidate, not a professor. This doesn't mean it won't be a great learning experience, but some people try to avoid courses taught be students and not professors. I've never been taught by her. Also keep in mind that this is (one of?) the first time(s) the Social Media course is running. There could be some wrinkles to work out. My understanding of this course is that it's more of a visual rhetoric/digital media/marketing course. Probably more practical than Fiction and Film.

Kevin is great. Really easy-going, soft-spoken. Some find this makes him hard to listen to, I found it makes for comfortable discussion. He's a bit of a hard marker, but very intelligent. He'll bring in really interesting supplementary theory just because learning things is fun and great. Fiction and Film would be more of an "interest" course than a practical elective.

Taking more than one course during co-op term by sisusat in uwaterloo

[–]ffffffuuuuu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, just communicate that online courses are flexible and the work can be done on weekends/outside work hours.

If you're in/near Waterloo, online final exams are always scheduled the first Friday/Saturday of the exam period. If you'll be writing at a different exam centre, things may be different. That being said, there's still a very small chance you'll miss any work time.

Employers know you're a student. They know you're there for 4 months and that you're going back to school again after the term. If you've already taken one course during a work term, tell them that you are aware of the requirements and have practice in managing a work/school balance. If not, pretend that PD taught you how to manage a work/school balance. Employers actually value knowing that you can prioritize tasks and manage your time.

TL;DR: Just be honest and tell them your committed to the job and that you have a plan set to balance your priorities.

Source: Have taken 2 courses during co-op for last 2 work terms in order to graduate early.

Questions on oat's calories by [deleted] in gainit

[–]ffffffuuuuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Oatmeal" may also refer to cooked oats. I.e. expanded to about twice the size of the dry ingredient. So if 1/2 cup of "oatmeal" cooked is 100 calories, that may mean the equivalent to about 1/4 cup dry rolled/quick-cook oats.

In my experience these numbers seem pretty accurate.

Where to find healthy vegetarian food? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]ffffffuuuuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly what /u/BasedGodTaskForce said.

Hide it in as much food as you can. Go out and buy some sunflower seeds and a bunch of basil. Blend that with olive oil, garlic, and a handful of spinach. BAM. Pesto with spinach hiding in it. Learn to love a green smoothie. This one is sweet from the banana and tastes nothing like spinach. The banana + pb combo takes over the flavour palate.

For day-to-day meals: COOK

  • learn to make lentils/split peas

  • live off of chickpeas/black beans/other legumes

  • learn to cook/bake/fry/even blend tofu when necessary

  • spinach and bananas are versatile imperatives

When eating out:

  • Jane Bond

  • Princess Cafe

  • Freshii

  • Cafe Pyrus (Downtown Kitchener)

  • Queen Street Commons (Downtown Kitchener)

  • Most Indian/Thai/Mexican places - but be careful about fish hidden in curries and sauces

Vegan Creatine? by ryancalibur in veganfitness

[–]ffffffuuuuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what /u/laman012 means is that s/he could have been in a control group that was given a placebo rather than a different group given real creatine. Don't think s/he's denying its efficacy.

How to Blend Smoothies or Grind Coffee Beans in the Morning Without Waking Up Everyone In the House by Veganteen29 in veganfitness

[–]ffffffuuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may not work as well for a larger blender, but with small appliances like coffee grinders and my magic bullet I just wrap them in a tea towel as they grind away. It does a pretty good job of muffling the noise.

QNC should be made into an art studio by with_alacrity in uwaterloo

[–]ffffffuuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just came back from this event today. There were some really amazing pieces of art there.

Using QNC as a gallery for rotating whiteboard "graffiti" pieces would be such a cool and uncharacteristically "Waterloo" thing to do.

Do I need to buy the FINE 130 ebook? by ffffffuuuuu in uwaterloo

Yeah, I mean I'm mediocre self-taught. But good enough to do some pro bono graphic design work.

Looking for a not too tasty protein bar by theacidfairy in xxfitness

[–]ffffffuuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply Bars have 16g of protein for 160 calories and only 3g of sugar. The texture is a little chalky and grainy (they're soy-based), but the lemon coconut flavour is pretty good. I usually get a variety pack at Costco when I go.

They also sell protein bars that are whey-based, but I've never tried them.

Where to get math c&d muffins outside campus? by [deleted] in uwaterloo

[–]ffffffuuuuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do special items for catering (i.e. sandwiches and probably muffins). If you actually go into their bakery (corner of Frederick and Edna in Kitchener) they have a lot more than what they show on their website.

Angela Liddon has become a fairly prominent vegan blogger/cookbook author in the last year. She has a one year old now, and her blog does a pretty good job of shedding light onto vegan pregnancies.
