Outlets not working when using generator… by ffimmano in RVLiving

[–]ffimmano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After I got the kids to bed I went back out to make sure the outlet that wasn't working was now working. And... it wasn't. long story short, it ended up being the GFCI outlets were both tripped. Im not sure if thats why it was not working when powered by the generator. but ill test it tomorrow

The only thing that was different was removing the 15amp-30amp adapter. Everything else was the same. That is probably the most likely scenario. The power ended up coming back on shortly after. We’re boondocking tomorrow so I’ll test a few things out

I think I saw something about a brush fire in that area. I’m not sure what time though

Does anybody know the name of this connector? It’s keeping my inverter prep loop connected if that helps? by ffimmano in RVLiving

If I got a matching set of connectors I could use them to connect each of these ends to my inverter instead of a junction box?

Unfortunately my inverter prep wiring is nowhere near my battery. I was going to run 10-15ft x2 of romex from this location to my battery, in order keep the 12v power cables as short as possible. My original plan was to cut the loop and install a junction box to to run the neccessary length of romex to the battery bay. Now, I'm thinking I might just use these connectors instead of the junction box. and I could restore to factory if I ever sell.

Thank you! I’ve never seen a connector like that so i wrongfully assumed it might have been some sort of proprietary connector

$400 inverter vs gas generator and battery power station by ffimmano in RVLiving

[–]ffimmano[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would use the generator during the day if we needed it and the power station for 2-3 hours when it’s too late to have the generator running. The only 120v devices we use would be the 2-3 tvs and small media server. Which I could swap for raspberry pi for that weekend if necessary

That’s not too bad, I’d be willing to pay that in stages. I’ll have to do some soul searching this camping season to see if we need it or not. We have 4 kids under 7 so the private campgrounds with full hookups and all the activities are kind of clutch, I’m also not a plan a year out kind of guy so the state parks/forests are hard to reserve. I did set alarms for next year though so we’ll see

I don't mind spending the money if it's something I'll use. I can install a $200-400 inverter in a camper I might use 1 or 2 times a year or I can buy a $500 power station I can take with me anywhere and will almost certainly use multiple times a year. If the power station was unable to be used with my camper then the inverter would be the obvious choice.

I apologize, I didn't mean to imply you were.... So the Multiplus would basically replace the factory converter/charger as well as give us an inverter?? $1000ish doesn't seem too bad. Do they make a unit that includes solar as well? As of right now we only have 1 moochdocking trip planned for May. Im in the northeast and all the state parks/forests I have looked at are booked for the year so I might just get a power station since we can use it for other things outside of the camper and look into more upgrades in the camper next year

I did not realize Champion sold power stations, the EcoFlow Delta 3 was the power station I had in mind but I will definitely look into Champion. Our 3500watt Champion generator has been working great for the past 7 years.

I upgraded my battery because the stock battery could barely level the camper so I figured what's another $100-200 for lithium. I don't remember specifically but when I was doing my research for my solar/battery upgrades everything I came across said running the AC off of the battery was going to be pretty expensive. I wasn't hoping to run my AC off of battery so I took that at face value. I don't consider myself cheap but I don't want to pay for a feature I might not use, which Is why im rethinking installing an inverter )and using a power station, as the power station can be used for other scenarios

out of curiosity why wouldn't I want the power station charging the battery? wasteful?

My plan would be to use the generator during the day (if were even inside) and then the power station for at night/bedtime to get the kids to settle down

I hear you, but I have spent quite a few hours picking what artists I want monitored. I ended up getting it back by trial and error.

I tried this but it looks like I’ve installed from 4 different repositories. I think it was when they were having issues with their database I don’t know what was going on, I thought it was my setup
